    Macrophytes are important elements of aquatic ecosystems that grow in or near water. Their taxonomic composition, species diversity, depth, and density are indicators of environmental health; as such, Macrophytes are used to assess the ecological status of water bodies. Under the aim of assessing the ecological status of the Klina River in Kosovo, a survey was conducted at eight sampling sites along the river course to analyze macrophyte composition, diversity, density, and cover. Three samples were collected at each sampling site from early June to late September. The following macrophyte indices were used to assess the ecological status of the river: Macrophyte Index for Rivers (MIR), River Macrophyte Nutrient Index (RMNI), and River Macrophyte Hydraulic Index (RMHI).     The Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, is an invasive mosquito species that is considered a potential vector of about 22 arboviruses, among which dengue, chikungunya and Zika. Here we report the first record of Aedes albopictus in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. The first finding, in July 2020, was driven by a photo of an adult mosquito published by a citizen in social media. The subsequent field investigation in July 2020 confirmed the presence of adult mosquitoes by human landing catch and collection of eggs in ovitraps at the village Zhur. Monitoring was performed for 7 weeks with ovitraps and BG-Sentinel adult traps at 36 sampling stations from 7 localities, in the Southern part of Kosovo, on the border with Albania. Fifty-two out of 81 ovitrap samples resulted positive for the presence of Ae. albopictus.     ABSTRACT: In this paper we provide a list of new species records of Trichoptera collected during the 2009–2010 period in the Republic of Kosovo. We report six first records for the Kosovo caddisfly fauna: Tinodes braueri McLachlan, 1978, Hydropsyche modesta Navas, 1925, Plectrocnemia mojkovacensis Malicky, 1982, Annitella triloba Marinković-Gospodnetić, 1955, Synagapetus moselyi (Ulmer, 1938) and Stenophylax meridiorientalis Malicky, 1982. We also provide new distribution records for several other species belonging to: Rhyacophilidae, Glossosomatidae, Philopotamidae, Hydropsychidae, Polycentropodidae, Psychomyiidae, Limnephilidae, Goeridae, Lepidostomatdiae, Leptoceridae, Odontoceridae, Sericostomatidae and Beraeidae.     The aim of this study was to assess the impact of pollution caused by the agriculture activities on the quality of water of Rimnik river in the municipality of Rahovec, using macrozoobentos as an indicator of the ecological status of the river. Considering that the agricultural activity in this region is highly developed and the chemicals are used in an uncontrolled way, the river and the streams that run through this region are polluted to a great extent. In its flow, Rimnik river collects a large amount of organic and inorganic fertilizers and pesticides, washed out by rainfall from the arable land into the river, together with the sewage water from the surrounding inhabited areas and waste from the wine industry. At the same time, the water of Rimnik river is used for irrigation of the arable lands, which brings down the level of the water amount during summer.     In this paper we present the results of a survey of three butterfly families: Hesperiidae, Pieridae and Papilionidae, in the Mountain massif Shkoza in central Kosovo, conducted from May to October 2016. Among 29 recorded butterfly species in this survey, 14 (48%) species belong to Pieridae, 10 (24%) to Hesperiidae and 4 (13.7%) to Papilionidae. Recorded species belong to five faunal elements according to Kudrna, Pennestorfer & Lux (2015) (KPS): 14 are Euro-Siberian (ES), 10 are Euro-Oriental (EO), two species are Mediterranean (EM), two are Holarctic (Hol) and one Boreo-Montane. Regarding the IUCN Red list status (van Swaay et al., 2010), three species Carcharodus floccifera (Zeller, 1847), Thymelicus acteon (Rottemburg, 1775) and Parnassius mnemosyne (Linnaeus, 1758) are Near Threatened (NT), while the other 27 are of Least Concern (LC).     In terms of Rhopalocera diversity Kosovo is one of the least studied areas in Europe. During 2018 we visited Kosovo on several occasions and gathered a total of 500 records of 98 species of butterflies or 57% of the 171 species known from the area so far. While our survey was not systematic and most localities were visited only once, the data gathered provide an important addition to the butterfly diversity of Kosovo. During this survey some species of European importance such as Lycaena dispar and Euphydryas aurinia were observed, adding to the knowledge about their distribution in the region. 14 of the recorded species are listed in the Red book of the fauna of Kosovo while six are listed in the European Red list of butterflies.

    Butterflies are highly sensitive to habitat and climate changes, and are recognized as important indicators of the state of the environment. Therefore their diversity needs to be studied on a regional scale in order to take actions for their protection by national and international legislation. Here, the results of a butterfly survey in the northeastern part of Kosovo are presented. A total of 93 species were recorded from 2014 to 2017 in six localities, including seven Hesperiidae, four Papilionidae, 15 Pieridae, 25 Lycenidae, 41 Nymphalidae and a single species of Riodinidae. Six of them are listed in the Red List of European Butterflies, all as Near Threatened: Cupido decoloratus (Staudinger, 1886), Pseudophilotes vicrama (Moore, 1865), Hipparchia statilinus (Hufnagel, 1766), Melitaea aurelia (Nickerl, 1850), Melitaea diamina (Lang, 1789) and Parnassius mnemosyne (Linnaeus, 1758). Altogether 9 fish species and lamprey (Eudontomyzon stankokaramani) were present in catch. The classification of the ecological status is done by using EFI index. The Lumebardhi i Pejes River is an ecosystem with relatively favorable ecological conditions for the development of ichthyofauna but because of direct negative anthropogenic impact in different forms ( as gravel excavation etc), the development of ichthyofauna is on the decline..

    The distribution of Mesophylax aspersus Curtis, 1834 (Trichoptera Limnephilidae) ranges from Western Europe, Mediterranean region, Madeira, Canary Islands and up to Southwestern Asia. According to the present knowledge it is however almost absent from Southeastern Europe. In this paper we present first record of M. aspersus from the Republic of Kosovo. This is at the same time first country record of the genus. Unlike many countries where this species is present abundantly in our case it is extremely rare. A single adult male specimen of M. aspersus was found in an ultraviolet light trap at the Blinajë Hunting Reserve on August 23rd 2013. This has been a single specimen of this species caught at this locality during a one year monthly sampling of caddisflies with UV light traps and entomological net.     ABSTRACT Water ecosystems in Kosovo are represented with by a range of wetland types such as glacier lakes and wet meadows, springs, streams, rivers, artificial water reservoirs, fish ponds, and temporary ponds. However, a full inventory of wetlands is not yet conducted in Kosovo. One of the most important wetland located in the central part of Kosovo is the wetland site of Henc. With the surface of 50 ha, it was artificially created in the late sixties, aiming cultivation of the common carp (Cyprinus caprio). This wetland was created by the conflux of Magura and Vrella water flows, which are branches of Sitnica River. Due to the ecological processes, this wetland is turned out into a naturally evolving ecosystem. This paper represents the first scientific findings about wetland biodiversity in Kosova. During this research, 41 species of birds, 4 species of fish, 3 species of reptiles, 2 amphibians, 2 mammals, 28 species of vascular plants are registered. A special research was done regarding the composition of the insect order Odonata. This wetland site is important breeding and feeding site for a number of resident, wintering and migratory water birds and therefore, it should be protected by the law and put under appropriate management fulfilling the requirements of the Ramsar Convention.
