Introduction. The article addresses the problem of developing students’ value-semantic sphere by means of situations of a semantic choice as the first moment of meaning-making and application of relevant psychological technologies. The purpose of the article is to reveal the peculiarities of using reframing as a technology of initiating students’ semantic choice in order to increase inner motivation and to develop their value-semantic sphere. Materials and Methods. The research adopted meaning-centred and psycho-semantic approaches. The authors applied the methods of content analysis, systematic analysis, comparative analysis, terminological analysis, generalization and systematization. Results. The article substantiates the necessity of using a reframing technology in the learning process. The main types of reframing that can be implemented in the context of the meaning-centred approach to learning are identified – reframing of meaning and reframing of context. The authors outline ...

The reaction of Bi, BiCl3, and TlCl in the ionic liquid [BMIm]Cl·4AlCl3 (BMIm = 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium) at 180 °C yielded air-sensitive black crystals of (Bi8)Tl[AlCl4]3. X-ray diffraction on single crystals at room temperature revealed a structure containing [ Tl ( AlCl 4 ) 3 ] ∞ 1 2 − strands separated by isolated Bi82+ square antiprisms. The thallium(I) ion is coordinated by twelve Cl− ions of six [AlCl4]− groups, resulting in a chain of face-sharing [TlCl12]11− icosahedra. The Bi82+ polycation is disordered, simulating a threefold axis through its center and overall hexagonal symmetry (space group P63/m). Slowly cooling the crystals to 170 K resulted in increased order in the Bi8 cluster orientations. An ordered structure model in a supercell with a’ = 2a, b’ = 2b, c’ = 3c and the space group P65 was refined. The structure resembles a hexagonal perovskite, with complex groups in place of simple ions.

ABSTRACT The dispute European Communities—Protection of trademarks and geographical indications for agricultural products and foodstuffs, which opposes the European Union with the United States and Australia, has been raised by the European regulation concerning the protection of geographical indications (GIs). This dispute has two important issues. First, the Panel has demonstrated that the European Regulation does not comply with national treatment promulgated by the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994. Second, the Panel affirmed the possibility of some coexistence between GIs and identical prior trademarks. This article considers these issues and describes the positions of the parties at the end of the dispute over protection of GIs. The first part discusses the Panel's conclusions on national treatment and the coexistence of GIs and prior trademarks. The second part provides an analysis of the relationship between national treatment and international harmonization of the rules on the protection of GIs. This shows that if the Panel findings do not annihilate the European system of protection of GIs, the United States will find it advantageous to free ride and resist any move towards the European system of protection.

The intelligent asphalt compaction analyzer (IACA) is a device based on neural network technology that can measure the density of an asphalt pavement continuously in real time during its construction. It was shown during limited field trials that the IACA could, in real time, measure the density of an asphalt pavement during its construction with accuracy comparable to existing point-wise measurement technologies. In this paper, the procedure to calibrate the IACA and the validation of the performance, i.e., accuracy of density measurements, are addressed. The results demonstrate that the IACA can be used to determine the density of the asphalt mat during compaction with an accuracy needed for quality control operations in the field.

A high rate of human T-lymphotropic virus type II (HTLV-II) infection has been documented in intravenous drug abusers (IVDAs) in South Vietnam. We have investigated the molecular characteristics of the virus and have shown that one HTLV-II subtype is predominant in Ho Chi Minh City. This molecular subtype, HTLV-IIb, was identified in a number of South Vietnamese by nucleotide sequence analysis of the long terminal repeat (LTR) region. HTLV-IIa was not found. These findings suggest that HTLV-IIb is endemic in IVDAs in South Vietnam, although IVDAs in urban areas in North America are predominantly infected with HTLV-IIa.

To investigate the molecular epidemiology of a recent HIV-1 outbreak in northern Vietnam and its relation to the epidemic in surrounding areas, we analyzed 17 HIV-positive blood specimens from 3 heterosexuals, 2 sexually transmitted disease patients, and 12 injecting drug users (IDUs), collected in 4 provinces near Hanoi in 1998. These were compared with the specimens from Ho Chi Minh City (n = 10) and An Giang Province (n = 10) in southern Vietnam and with published sequences from neighboring countries. Genetic subtyping based on the env C2/V3 sequences revealed that HIV-1 subtype E predominated throughout Vietnam in all risk populations; the exception was one typical United States-European-type HIV-1 subtype B detected in a patient in Ho Chi Minh City, the first case of HIV infection identified in Vietnam in 1990. The HIV-1 subtype E sequences identified in 9 of the 12 IDUs from northern provinces were closely related phylogenetically to those in IDUs in nearby Guangxi Province of China, and also shared a common amino acid signature downstream of the env V3 loop region. The low interperson nucleotide diversity among IDUs in northern Vietnam supports the view that HIV-1 subtype E was introduced recently among IDUs in northern Vietnam. These data indicate a linkage between HIV-1 circulating among IDUs in northern Vietnam and southern China, and suggest recent transborder introductions as the likely source of HIV-1 subtype E in northern Vietnam.
