    Background. Probiotics are microorganisms, mainly bacteria, which positively affect human organism. Probiotics help the immune system, profitably influence intestinal microflora, and are applied in case of diarrhoea, cancer or allergy prevention. Objectives. The aim of the work is to examine the level of probiotics knowledge among people over the age of 60 years and to show a correlation between the level of knowledge and such factors as age, gender, education, place of living and occupational activity. Material and Methods. A group of 130 people, who complied with the age criterion – over 60 years old, participated in the study. The research was based on the author’s questionnaire filled in anonymously and voluntarily. To determine the independence of researched variables, the independence test χ2 was applied.     Background: Psychological old age is considered a developmental process in which there is a juxtaposition of profit and loss. Developmental changes are multi-faceted and include biological, psychological and social spheres. The quality of human life diminishes as mobility lessens, and this compromises self-perception. The biological changes of old age are retroactive. Poor nutritional status and other negative behaviors like addictions contribute to the physiological regression of aging. Interest in nutrition amongst the elderly is heightened because of the aging population in Poland and internationally. There is also interest in the application of proper nutrition to prevent diseases in this age group.     Background: The aging of the population in Poland and globally has increased interest in nutrition for the elderly. Their diets are inappropriate, but modifications should be introduced gradually. This is important in hospital settings, sanatoriums or social care homes, where patients have few choices. Aim of the study: The study aimed to assess the content of the selected mineral salts in ten day menus offered by the Social Welfare Home based on season of the year. Material and methods: The study included 40 menus offered in four seasons of the year for the residents of the Social Welfare Home in Lower Silesia. The mineral content of the foods on the menus were assessed. We considered the physical activity of the elderly (1.4—Physical Activity Level) using norms developed by the Food and Nutrition Institute, and calculated the average norms of the analysed nutrients for people over 60 years of age. Życie na emigracji często różni się, a wielokrotnie w znacznym stopniu, od życia w ojczystym kraju, wiąże się z koniecznością osiedlenia w nowych, najczęściej odmiennych warunkach bytowych, społecznych i kulturowych. Większość emigrantów stopniowo zmienia swój sposób żywienia przyjmując zasady żywienia kraju gospodarza. Thyroid dysfunction is associated with a change in body weight, but also its composition regardless of physical activity. Objective. The aim of the study was to compare the body composition of female patients diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease (HD) and the body composition of healthy women who have never been treated before due to thyroid diseases. Materials and methods. The study involved 47 women diagnosed with Hashimoto disease (HD) and 65 women declaring good health. The increase in interest in this food significantly influenced on the development of freezing food, and consequently systematic expansion the offer of frozen products. Objectives. The aim of this study was recognize the acquire behavior of chosen group of students towards frozen convenience food. Material and Methods. The study group consisted of 202 students: 109 women and 93 men in the age between 20 and 32. The study was conducted by a questionnaire. The research tool was a author’s closed questionnaire, which included some questions about the factors determining the choice of frozen food. Results.     BACKGROUND Overweight and obesity are metabolic disorders affecting both adults and children. Effective treatment of these conditions is focused on decreasing the body mass, through individually tailored and well balanced diets, along with increasing physical activity. Obese persons often, however, choose high protein diets for losing weight. Recently in Poland, the high-protein Dukan-diet has become very popular. OBJECTIVES To assess dietary consumption in women adopting the Dukan-diet, including intakes of protein, fat, carbohydrate as well as vitamins and minerals. MATERIALS AND METHODS Subjects were 51 women aged 19-64 years on the Dukan-diet, who were surveyed by individually conducted interview.     Introduction and objective. Regular monitoring of health condition, for example, through checking on nutritional status and early prophylaxis have a crucial influence on the prevention of illnesses at an older age. The aim of the study was to assess the nutritional status of rural inhabitants in the Lower Silesian and Opole Provinces, including gender and age. Materials and method. The research was carried out among 315 rural inhabitants of Provinces of Lower Silesian and Opole. The measurements of body mass, as well as its content, were performed using the body content analyzer. During the examination, information was collected about the adipose and lean body tissue content, bone mass, muscle mass, and total amount of water, including intracellular and extracellular water.     Abstract Assessing the nutritional status of elderly patients is an integral component of a comprehensive geriatric assessment. Anthropometric measurements, body composition estimation, and questionnaires such as the MNA, MST, NRI, and PINI are useful methods for assessing nutritional status in seniors. The aim of this paper is to provide methods of nutritional status assessment. Although there are many methods for assessing seniors’ nutritional status, so far we have failed to develop a “gold standard” for such nutritional assessments.

    Background. Caffeine is the most widespread psychoactive substance in the world. With long-term consumption of caffeinated beverages, there is a high probability of overtaking on caffeine. Objective. The aim of the study was to estimate the consumption of caffeine in the daily caffeine intake of Polish consumers, determine the caffeinated products in the intake of this substance. Materials and methods. The survey was completed by 433 respondents living in Poland. The research tool was the electronic questionnaire, which consisted of: a) questions about personal data and measurement anthropometric and the level of physical activity and smoking; b) questions regarding the portion size and frequency of consumption of coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, energy drinks and colacarbonated beverages.     The consumption of plant-based food products instead of animal-based products tends to increase worldwide which can be caused by the global expansion of alternative food products. The article's objective is to investigate the perception of plant-based milk analogues by real and potential consumers and determine the prospects of increasing their assortment. The assortment of plant-based analogues of milk and products made thereof is analyzed. A projection of the almond milk sales was made as one of the most effective product categories. Questioning of consumers conducted to investigate consumer treatment of plant-based milk analogues. The survey covered 436 respondents, of which 37.7% consume plant-based milk regularly and 47.7% of respondents consume this product occasionally. About 15% of respondents have never consumed it.     The way of defining the concept of health varies depending on the age, sex, social position of a person conditioned by place of residence, economic and family situation. The aim of the study was to assess subjective and objective health status of women over 65 living in a small and big town. In the subjective assessment of the nutritional status were the MNA questionnaire used, in the objective assessment was BMI used. Body composition analysis was carried out using the bioimpedance method. Lab tests were made using standard methods. The quantitative assessment of the diet was made using the 24-hour intake method, the results calculated in software Dieta 5. Significantly more often women from Nysa than from Wroclaw assessed their health status in comparison with their peers as just as good or better (p <0.05). Jednym z najważniejszych czynników wpływających na jakość tego rozwoju jest prawidłowe odżywianie. Światowa Organizacja Zdrowia określa karmienie piersią jako najlepszy i najwłaściwszy sposób karmienia niemowlęcia w pierwszym półroczu życia. Po tym czasie dietę dziecka należy rozszerzyć o pokarmy uzupełniające. W Polsce w 2007 r. opublikowano schemat żywienia niemowląt, który uwzględnia sposób karmienia oraz czas i rodzaj wprowadzania do diety dodatkowych produktów.
