The current state of the art in voice-recognition technology is reaching a level of maturity that suggests sophisticated voice-based user-interface technologies will soon be available in mobile devices. As voice commands for mobile devices and services have so far been primarily limited to voice dialling and the activation of individual menu items, there is currently a window of opportunity to standardise voice commands for basic functions of mobile devices and services. ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, has formed a Specialist Task Force (STF) to extend the existing ETSI standard ES 202 076 on voice commands for mobile services and devices. The existing published standard covers five major European languages, whereas the revised version will extend the number of languages covered to 30. This paper gives an overview of the commands and languages covered, and outlines the approach used to identify the voice commands (elicitation, validation and phonetic discrimination).

British Telecommunications PLC (BT) is a global telecommunications company providing a wide range of products and services, supported by a large research and development organization which includes a Human Factors Unit (HFU). Part of the HFU's work is to ensure that BT's current and future products and services are useful and usable. A team within the HFU has recently carried out a reassessment of the processes, tools and techniques required for effective and efficient usability evaluations. The existing facilities, reasons for change and benefits to the company are described in the context of a usability evaluation framework.

Mercury (Hg) emission and deposition can occur to and from soils, and are an important component of the global atmospheric Hg budget. This paper focuses on synthesizing existing surface-air Hg flux data collected throughout the Western North American region and is part of a series of geographically focused Hg synthesis projects. A database of existing Hg flux data collected using the dynamic flux chamber (DFC) approach from almost a thousand locations was created for the Western North America region. Statistical analysis was performed on the data to identify the important variables controlling Hg fluxes and to allow spatiotemporal scaling. The results indicated that most of the variability in soil-air Hg fluxes could be explained by variations in soil-Hg concentrations, solar radiation, and soil moisture. This analysis also identified that variations in DFC methodological approaches were detectable among the field studies, with the chamber material and sampling flushing flow rate influencing the magnitude of calculated emissions. The spatiotemporal scaling of soil-air Hg fluxes identified that the largest emissions occurred from irrigated agricultural landscapes in California. Vegetation was shown to have a large impact on surface-air Hg fluxes due to both a reduction in solar radiation reaching the soil as well as from direct uptake of Hg in foliage. Despite high soil Hg emissions from some forested and other heavily vegetated regions, the net ecosystem flux (soil flux+vegetation uptake) was low. Conversely, sparsely vegetated regions showed larger net ecosystem emissions, which were similar in magnitude to atmospheric Hg deposition (except for the Mediterranean California region where soil emissions were higher). The net ecosystem flux results highlight the important role of landscape characteristics in effecting the balance between Hg sequestration and (re-)emission to the atmosphere.

Preparing for the wide variety of disasters that can occur is challenging for any animal research facility, but the level of concern for human and animal health rises significantly when infectious agents and toxins are part of the scenario. Federal regulations provide detailed requirements for the development of an incident response plan (IRP) when select agents and toxins (SATs) are used. In addition to the usual issues associated with disaster planning, the IRP must address concerns associated with the potential theft, loss, or release of SATs that may affect both institutional personnel and the surrounding community. The level of detail in the IRP and the intensity of training should be appropriate for the level of risk involved. Regulations describe certain basic requirements but do not address the risks of SAT-exposed animals, which have been the subject of additional guidance to help implement regulatory requirements. A 2008 joint publication of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service describes scenarios in which SAT-exposed animals are handled in the same manner as the agent or toxin itself for the purpose of reporting a SAT theft, loss, or release. Events that resulted from the impact of Hurricane Ike at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston provide a valuable opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of the federal regulations and to build on lessons learned from this disaster. These lessons can help to supplement the regulatory requirements and improve the safety and security of handling both SATs and animals exposed to them during and after an emergency situation.

This is a collection of data on 5 of the most habitable Earth-like planets beyond our Solar System. The idea that the conditions for life existing on similar planets is examined here and grouped together in a single paper. This paper is ultimately designed to encourage the consideration of the possibility of life existing beyond our humanity, as it is becoming growingly evident.

This is just another scientific compilation of knowledges, in article form, aimed to entice scientists to consider other paradigms of existences and other learning platforms of discovery. It should be noted that most of this information is derived from Alexander Putney's book "Qi" and is no way intended to pass of as my own work, because plainly...it isn't. It is his. There are some places in this paper where I put in my own opinions and add a few things, but in large I have Alex to thank for his contributions to the world in which I am just transpiring here.

This is the first installment of a series of poems I wrote, in which the encompassing group of poems itself is entitled "Memoirs of an Age". These are the abstracts of my understandings in terms of life and being lifelike in how the relate to my emotional light as well as it's equal opposite.

I know that not many will understand, and the chances are that even more will misunderstand and misinterpret these writings. But there will be a few that these writings will resonate purely with and it will shake the light within their own existence...as it still does mine.

7 and 9 and 10 are especially important and will more than likely be furthered later on in additional writings, as I feel I was finally beginning to scratch the surface of what I really wanted to say in those particular ones.

This is my defense in lieu of recent claims made by SBRG. Point blank...they are lying and falsifying claims for unknown reasons and I felt that this is the best ways to put those accusations to rest. What I am offering in this disclaimer, I am positive, they will not adhere to the same structure of promise and truth and offer what I am offering the people here in this document. I recommend to those who question any word on either side to petition these ideas to a court of law and let truth take it's toll.
