Abstract In Fayoum Governorate, Egypt, the influence of tillage on the soil fauna was studied. For this reason, two plots (the first and the third) were not tilled, and were cultivated with various crops (tomatoes and different crop residues). The second study plot consisted of fallow land and was ploughed and cultivated with tomato with conventional tillage practices. Data of activity density of the soil fauna taxa were treated by multivariate statistical methods: correspondence analysis and ascending hierarchic classification. Comparisons indicated that higher activity densities of the herbivorous soil fauna taxa were generally associated with no-tillage practices. After the incorporation of the live green Lupinus termis and Trifolium alexandrinum in the soil, activity densities of some groups of soil fauna taxa increased such as Collembola and Orthoptera. Carnivorous soil fauna also increased after ploughing soils. Agricultural practices that adversely affect activity density as well as diversity of so...

The best way to prevent Fascioliasis is through the reduction in population of the Lymnaeid snail intermediary host. Plant based molluscides had over the years shown remarkable promises. Presented here are a series of experiments evaluating the potency of crude seed oil extracts of Azadirachta indica, Acacia albida and Balanite aegyptiaca against Lymnae natalensis, an intermediary host of Fasciola gigantica collected from Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Northeastern Nigeria. The results indicated that, molluscicidal potency of seed oils of A. indica, A. albida and B. aegyptiaca were concentration dependent. Mortality rate increases with corresponding increase in concentration of the extracts. Comparatively, seed oil extracts of B. aegyptiaca showed higher molluscicidal tendencies, followed by A. indica and lower with A. albida. The results of the LC50 and LC90 values of different seed oils on Lymnae natalensis varied accordingly. All the three plant species seed oils ...

The aim of the present research was to determine the effect of both the gender of the new-born calf and the prepartum vaccination status of the dam (ScourGuard-4K) on the chemical composition and some biological parameters of the colostrum. Blood serum was collected from four groups of pregnant dams (four animals in each group) during the dry period (vaccinated buffalo dams pregnant with a male fetus, vaccinated buffalo dams pregnant with a female fetus, unvaccinated buffalo dams pregnant with a male fetus, and unvaccinated buffalo dams pregnant with a female fetus), in the pregnancy period, at the giving-birth period and after 24 hours of postpartum. The levels of insulin-like growth factor hormone (IGF-1) and immunoglobuline G (IgG) were calculated in the maternal blood serum at the assigned periods. Colostrum samples were collected at the birth time and 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72 hours after birth for measuring the chemical composition of the colostrum, as well as levels of IgG and IG...

One experiment was conducted to determine the effect of butyric acid addition on growth performance, carcass traits and haemobiochemical constituents of broiler chickens during 742 days of age. A total 180 one day old broiler chicks (Arbor Acres) were obtained from commercial hatchery. Chickens were randomly distributed keeping equal initial body weight among 4 treatment groups each containing 3 replicates, 15 unsexed chicks for each. The dietary treatments including control, 0.5, 1 and 2% butyric acid. The experimental period form started at 7 day of age to 42 days of age. Final body weight, total gain, feed consumption, and feed conversion ratio were increase significantly (P>0.05) at levels 0.5 and 1% of butyric acid compared to the control group. Haemoglobin concentration and Haematocrit values were significantly affected. It was higher significantly (P>0.05) by using 1% level of butyric acid compared to the three other treatments. Also, the same result was observed in chi...

Sweet potato flour and Camel milk can serve, as a source of some nutrients, natural sweetness, colors and flavor, to prepare food product formulas. Both of them, alone or together, could be considered as an excellent novel source of natural health-promoting compounds in the functional food market. Sweet potato flour contains plenty amounts of βcarotene and anthocyanins, while, camel milk is a very important food stuff, due to its low cholesterol, low sugar, high minerals and vitamin C contents. The physico-chemical and sensory properties of cakes containing different concentrations of the tested sweet potato powder and camel milk as a partial replacement of wheat flour were estimated. The present results showed that, total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity were increased by increasing the potato powder in the cake. The cake height and volume were decreased, compared with the control sample. The tested cake showed no significant differences in terms of odor, texture and ove...

Various ecological studies report a reduction in cardiovascular disease mortality risk with increasing magnesium levels in drinking water. Most of the studies done in this field were epidemiologic studies. The aim of the present study was to examine whether magnesium addition to drinking water can affect risks of cardiac disease. The study included five groups of male albino rats. The rats received either tap water or water containing 5, 10, 20 g of magnesium sulfate per liter. During the whole experiment, all the groups received hypercholesterolemic diet except for the normal control which received normal basal diet. At the end of the experiment, blood was drawn for the determination of plasma magnesium, lipid profile and liver function. In addition, the extent of obesity was determined using the body mass index (BMI). In all groups magnesium addition was associated with higher levels of plasma magnesium. The blood analysis showed a significant decrease in serum total cholesterol, t...

The overuse of pesticides increased pastes resistance eliminate. This study has been devoted to develop a novel synthetic scheme to produce pesticide nanocomposite of very high efficiency compared to its original one. The method is based on using silver nanoparticles (AgNPS) as a pesticide carrier by loading the pyrethroid pesticide Lambda-cyhalothrin (L-CYN) into the surface of prepared AgNPS. The nature of binding has been investigated via Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) techniques. The new formulation of the pesticide nanocomposite AgNPS@L-CYN has been tested for its larvicidal activity against second instar larvae of lab and field cotton leafworm. Our findings indicated that silver lambda-cyh...

This work was designed to study the effect of daily oral administration for two groups of male albino rats suffering from weight gain (obese rats) with both 10% aqueous extract of green tea and 21 mg LCarnitine/kg body weight for 9 weeks. Green tea (GT) and L-Carnitine (LC) cause significant body weight reduction in overweight rats with low thyroid hormone levels (triiodothyronin T3 and thyroxin T4) as well as testosterone. Treatment of obese male rats with GT caused decrease in count of red blood cells and blood haemoglobin and elevate in both count of white blood cells WBCs and haematocrit PCV%, while LC caused elevate in blood haemoglobin levels Hb, RBCs, WBCs and (PCV) % compared with both negative and positive groups of control while haematocrit PCV% in rats of positive contrl group was reduced compared with rats of (C-ve) group and all treatment groups.
