The study presents the labour market situation in the Visegrad Group countries, the Czechia, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. The labour markets of the four countries are very similar. Due to economic cycles, their unemployment rates vary in a similar way. In the late 2010s, all countries experienced labour shortages. This is partly due to the fact that labour-intensive sectors still predominate in all of them, especially the car manufacturing sector. It is also an important fact that the labour force from the region plays an important role at EU level, millions of workers from the region taking up jobs in Western Member States. But there are also differences between the four countries. Poland, due to its size, has the largest number of workers in Western Member States. Thanks to its economic development, the Czech Republic is in the best position in terms of employment. In the late 2010s, employment continued to improve and the trend was only slightly worsened by the Covid 19 pandemic.

Based on the responses of the surveyed companies and institutions, we analyzed what government measures help to solve the problems and tensions in the labor market. By our empirical research we aimed to look for the main triggers and the typical means of labor shortage and labor retention. We also examined what efficiency improvement plans and robotization programs are either planned or have already been implemented by the responding organizations. The study reflects the empirical results conducted in 2019 in seven countries in the region. One of the key issues in these countries during the period considered is the dramatic increase in labor shortages, which has been influenced by a variety of factors, namely outbound labor migration after the change of regime, unfavorable demographic factors, national and regional economic downturns as well as persistent wage differences within the EU. Wages and work-life balance are the two important factors that have a significant impact on labor...

Many countries around the world are struggling with the problem of declining fertility. In this study, we analyse the historical demographic context of Slovakia and present the tax and support instruments that the Slovak government uses to promote childbearing and parenting. The choice of the topic of this paper is in fact an indirect attempt to justify the Hungarian demographic and population policy measures. In our previous research, supported by empirical evidence, we found that Hungary, as a country with a similar level of development and in many respects similar to Slovakia, has been providing extensive tax and housing subsidies since the early 2010s, and we analysed how women of childbearing age and families relate to these subsidies. Do they have an impact on the propensity to have children? We have shown that the Hungarian government’s CSOK scheme and tax incentives are well received by young people, but that the promotion of childbearing depends on a number of factors beyon...

Employment is today one of the crucial questions, since the crisis started in 2008, its impulses expressed their impacts among others in the labour market. A series of job losses and cost reductions induced greater rationalization and flexibility of employment. One of the features of that is the fact that the perception of atypical employment has recently undergone a transformation. The figures of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office show, inter alia, that these forms of employment are increasingly in the focus of interest of employers and areas of application are broadened, furthermore their frequency increases. Similarly to the employer, the workers will see new perspectives in atypical solutions, but of course the question is how the employees' attitudes are formed and how these opportunities determine expansion. This study summarizes the partial results of a research carried out in the past few years. The study, based on a survey conducted among the unemployed basically ...

The past used to be evaluated differently. The victors usually point out positive sides of the events and the losers typically the negative sides. The peace treaties of the 20 th century brought huge territorial changes. In the age of centralized national states to become a citizen of another state means more considerable changes in life of people than ever before. The peace treaties after World War I rewrote the map of Central Europe. They created new states which had never existed before. During those stormy times, Hungary suffered the greatest losses. The territory of the country was reduced from 282,870 km² to 92,952 km², of which Czechoslovakia gained 61,646 km². The number of inhabitants fell from 18,264,533 to 7,615,117 of which Czechoslovakia gained 3,517,568 persons including 1,066,685 Hungarians. The historical Upper Hungary was renamed to Slovakia and became the part of Czechoslovakia. The process of peacemaking reminded war, even so after the armistice between the Hungar...

Management consulting, as we know it today, has existed for over 100 years. We review the basic concepts of consulting, outline the major steps in the development of business-related consulting, and highlight that consulting plays an important role in shaping the globalization of multinational firms. Next, we depict the specific evolutionary steps of consulting in Czechoslovakia and independent Slovakia in the light of global and regional trends. The development of Slovakia is described within the framework of the first (1919-1939) and the second (1945-1992) Czechoslovak Republics, and we discuss the development of Marketing, HRM, and other consulting in Slovakia.  We also discuss clients' opinions of consultants in the light of an empirical research project carried out in 2018.

W czasach scentralizowanych państw narodowych uzyskanie obywatelstwa innego państwa oznacza bardziej znaczące zmiany w życiu ludzi, niż miało to miejsce kiedykolwiek wcześniej.

This paper deals with both political and economic history. The main task was to try to compare the attitude of Gustáv Husák and János Kádár about economic reforms in their own countries. The comparison was based on their lives, interests and personalities. Historical evaluation and biographical material was also used. Taking into account that the political circumstances were very similar, the root of the differences between the acts of these politicians had to be the result of individual factors. However, it cannot be denied that the difference between the development of Czechoslovakia and Hungary also played a significant role.
