Dr. Singh is an educationist and a retired education officer from Madhya Pradesh and currently working with Azim Premji Foundation. Recently he talked with the students of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Nainital, Uttarakhand. Here are the some brief notes of his lecture.

"आज का दिन इस मायने में अच्छा था कि बच्चों ने घोषणा की कि अब वे किसी भी चीज पर कविता लिख सकते हैं. ऑब्जरवेशन कविता की पहली शर्त है. बाद में मैडिटेशन उसे अर्थपूर्ण बनाने में मदद करता है. बच्चे के ज्ञान पर विश्वास किया जाय तो वह धीरे-धीरे नयी क्रियाओं और संज्ञाओं से अंत:क्रिया करने लगता है. भाषा का विकास गतिविधियों में शामिल होते हुए और उनमें मजा करते होता जाता है."

After a die hard famine in 19th century and with 70 orphans one school is opened by Christian Missionary in Jeolikot village of Nainital. it is about 150 years back. it is still running but what to 'freedom'! what the free leaders and officers did with education, this note of mine can help you to understand it.

this is written almost 10 years back by IITian and co-founder CSE and founder PSI Dr. Ravi Chopra and by co-author. But when India government is hungry for Dams on mountain rivers, this paper become more relevant to address models of development.

We got the chance to live and see the volcano when Ganga river was smashing Uttarkashi. The monsoon of 2013 hit hard everything living or non living on hills. But the nightmare we undergone for a few days, remained long and lasting with locals. Some excerpts of this journey:

I met Nainital first time in the monsoon of 2001. The whole valley was filled with fog. Actually it was like a burning jungle where everywhere smoke scattered. The small clouds were kissing my cheeks as I was ascending towards Stoneleigh Compound. When reached at destination I was mesmerized, hallucinated and completely lost. I am still feel what I felt then..after almost 14 monsoons passed..

This workshop is done by the members of Azim Premji Foundation . Idea was to revisit the journey of Foundation in education sector. This is the one example of making decisions on decentralized basis. An impressive culture of taking decisions collectively.

these are some case studies or success stories from the govt. schools of Uttarakhand. the practices and passion force us to believe that systems are made out of persons. though the system is denying its duty; but that promise of ensuring quality education to all (the constitution of india) is kept here by madcaps.
