Skin aging and wrinkle formation are processes that are largely influenced by the overexpression of enzymes like tyrosinase, elastase, and collagenase. This study aimed to validate the skin anti-aging properties of phytochemicals from Peperomia pellucida (PP) as well as its attendant mechanism of action. Compounds previously characterized from PP were retrieved from the PubChem database and docked to the active sites of tyrosinase, elastase, and collagenase using Schrödinger’s Maestro 11.5 and AutoDock tools to predict compounds with the best inhibitory potential to block these enzymes in preventing skin aging. It was observed that our hit compounds had favorable affinity and displayed key interactions at the active sites of these enzymes similar to those of the standards. With elastase, we observed key interactions with the amino acids in the S1 sub-pocket (especially ALA-181), Zn chelation, and histidine residues, which are key for inhibitory activity and ligand stability. The hit...

Biochar has proved to be effective in improving soil fertility and it is important to know its nutrients variability as influenced by pyrolysis temperature and feedstock type for optimum agricultural productivity. In this experiment four different feedstocks from animal and plant sources were selected and pyrolysed at four different temperatures of 300, 400, 500 and 600 ˚C for 3 hours at a heating rate of 10 ˚C min-1. The feedstocks were Corn cob (CC), Poultry litter (PL), Cow dung (CD) and Peanut shell (PS). The results show that increase in pyrolysis temperature led to decrease in the concentration of many of the parameters analysed in the biochar. At the lowest temperature of 300 ˚C the highest contents of (0.62 %) N in CD, (66.4 mg g-1) P in CC, (8.38 mg g-1) K in CD, (16.2 mg g-1) Ca in CC, (4 21 mg g-1) Mg in CC, (0.28 %) S in CC, were observed. On the other hand, increase in temperature resulted to increase in C, pH, Ash content and the highest pH value of 10.17 was found in ...

This study evaluates the nexus between the stock market in Turkey; proxied with the Istanbul Stock Market and Geopolitical risk with the use of wavelet method. Monthly data ranging from January 1991 to March  2017 were used in the study. The Johansen cointegration test reveals that there exists no cointegration between the variables. Hence, the wavelet analysis was employed to account for the time-varying properties of the series. The result of the wavelet analysis shows that both the Istanbul Stock Market and Geopolitical Risk comove in the short run. The Toda- Yamamoto test used to check for causality shows that IST would lead to Geopolitical risk in the long run.

Soymilk and maize steep water were used as alternative raw materials to cow milk and commercial starter, respectively, for production of yoghurt. The cow milk used was both Fresh milk and dried powdered milk (DANO). The cost of production of the yoghurt samples as well as their chemical, microbial and organoleptic properties was compared with that of the commercially available yoghurt (FAN MILK). There was no significant difference (P (either fermented with commercial starter or maize steep water) and that of the dried powdered milk yoghurt fermented with maize steep water. Soymilk yoghurt fermented with commercial starter contained the highest moisture, the least carbohydrate and the least total solid, 94.07%, 0.81% and 5.89 g/100 g, respectively. The commercial yoghurt recorded the highest phosphorous and calcium 59.09 and 49.60 ppm, respectively. There was no significant difference (p water. Soymilk yoghurt fermented with maize steep water compares well with the other yoghurt sam...

It has been an actual economic fact that the size of the labour force coupled with the size of the economy's capital formation regarding investment can directly impact a country's GDP (growth). The study empirically investigates the interaction between interest rate, unemployment and economic growth using a time series data spanning from 2000Q1 – 2016Q4. The study applied the Fourier Toda-Yamamoto Approximation to check for any causal relationship among variables. The Fourier Toda-Yamamoto approximation causality shows a univariate causality running from interest rate to growth and interest rate to unemployment rate at 0.05 (5%) significant level while no causality was found to exist between the unemployment rate and growth. The paper recommends that the Nigeria government should endeavour to rebrand her agricultural sector. Thus, this slow down the rising unemployment rate, formulate policies that help to discourage gender discrimination in the labour market participation, ...

Abstract Purpose Dating violence has, in recent times, been a social problem that has been creating different levels of concern especially among parents, and those in the academia, in Nigeria. Studies have shown causes to be largely due to personality types, but little relate it with violence between the parents of the perpetrator. This study examines the influence of violence between parents and the effect on dating violence among students in Nigerian Universities. Design/Methodology/Approach Questionnaires were administered to 460 students who had experienced violence in their dating relationship. The study had 55.7% of the respondents being females. Findings All of the respondents had experienced dating violence at one point or the other in their relationship. About 36.7% of the respondents reported to having been in dating relationship with a partner who had witnessed violence in the home. Data analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient indicate that the variables of parental conflict and dating violence were significantly positively correlated among the students. Originality/Value The study was limited because it focuses on only one university, and research in the area of dating violence in Nigeria has not been extensively reported. The study therefore emphasizes the impact of socialization process on dating behavior of young adults in Nigeria as well as the need to have further studies on these dating patterns. This study will serve as addition to the gradually increasing literature on dating behavior of young adults in the Nigerian society.

The objective of this study was to assess information infrastructure on adoption of agronomic practices among small scale farmers in Ido Local  Government Area. Multi-stage Sampling Procedure was used in selecting the respondents for the study. One hundred and twenty questionnaires were administered in twelve (12) villages. Data collected were statistically analyzed using inferential statistics such as Chi-square and PPMC. The study revealed that majority (81.7%) of the respondents strongly agreed that they sourced their information from Contact farmers. The study also showed that myriads of constraints are always encountered by the small-scale farmers of which the major constraint is illiteracy with a percentage  of 81.7%. The study revealed that increased production is a very beneficial factor in respect to benefit of agricultural information infrastructure with (63.5%). The study revealed that majority of respondents’ (35.6%) chose Etisalat as the most preferred network. The resu...
