Background One of the facets of nursing care, as a holistic profession, is cultural care. Considering the role of culture in individuals’ health behaviors, nurses are recommended to be mindful of cultural care. Since nursing educators should be culturally competent to teach cultural care to students, this study aimed to determine the cultural competence of nursing educators of medical sciences universities in the 2nd regional planning in Iran. Methods The current research was a descriptive and survey study framed within Campinha-Bacote’s cultural competency model. All nursing educators of universities of medical sciences in the 2nd regional planning of Iran (Tabriz, Urmia, Ardabil, Khoy, Maragheh, Sarab, and Khalkhal) were considered as research units, and the cultural diversity questionnaire for nursing faculties (CDQNE-R) was sent to them. Out of 129 questionnaires sent, 84 were turned back. The data were analyzed by the SPSS 22 software. Results The results of this study showed t...

Background Understanding the magnitude of cancer burden attributable to potentially modifiable risk factors is crucial for development of effective prevention and mitigation strategies. We analysed results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 to inform cancer control planning efforts globally. Methods The GBD 2019 comparative risk assessment framework was used to estimate cancer burden attributable to behavioural, environmental and occupational, and metabolic risk factors. A total of 82 risk-outcome pairs were included on the basis of the World Cancer Research Fund criteria. Estimated cancer deaths and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) in 2019 and change in these measures between 2010 and 2019 are presented. Findings Globally, in 2019, the risk factors included in this analysis accounted for 4•45 million (95% uncertainty interval 4•01-4•94) deaths and 105 million (95•0-116) DALYs for both sexes combined, representing 44•4% (41•3-48•4) of all cancer deaths and 42•0% (39•1-45•6) of all DALYs. There were 2•88 million (2•60-3•18) risk-attributable cancer deaths in males (50•6% [47•8-54•1] of all male cancer deaths) and 1•58 million (1•36-1•84) risk-attributable cancer deaths in females (36•3% [32•5-41•3] of all female cancer deaths). The leading risk factors at the most detailed level globally for risk-attributable cancer deaths and DALYs in 2019 for both sexes combined were smoking, followed by alcohol use and high BMI. Risk-attributable cancer burden varied by world region and Socio-demographic Index (SDI), with smoking, unsafe sex, and alcohol use being the three leading risk factors for risk-attributable cancer DALYs in low SDI locations in 2019, whereas DALYs in high SDI locations mirrored the top three global risk factor rankings. From 2010 to 2019, global risk-attributable cancer deaths increased by 20•4% (12•6-28•4) and DALYs by 16•8% (8•8-25•0), with the greatest percentage increase in metabolic risks (34•7% [27•9-42•8] and 33•3% [25•8-42•0]). Interpretation The leading risk factors contributing to global cancer burden in 2019 were behavioural, whereas metabolic risk factors saw the largest increases between 2010 and 2019. Reducing exposure to these modifiable risk factors would decrease cancer mortality and DALY rates worldwide, and policies should be tailored appropriately to local cancer risk factor burden. Background There are still concerns about the effectiveness of clinical education models which are done with the aim of reducing the theoretical-practical gap in nursing. In this article, we intend to describe an innovative model to create an integration and structured relationship between educational and healthcare provider institutions. The basis of this work is the full-time presence of nursing teacher in the clinical settings and the development of their role to improve the education of students and nurses and the quality of nursing services. Methods This was a participatory action research. This action research was implemented in four steps of problem identification, planning, action and reflection. Interviews, focus groups and observation were used for the qualitative part. Clinical Learning Environment Inventory (CLEI), Job Satisfaction in Nursing Instrument questionnaires and Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire were completed before and after the stu...

Abstract Background Patient handoff is considered a critical measure for patient safety and continuity of care, particularly in the operating room where the patient fails to provide sufficient or appropriate information. This study aimed to assess the quality of change of shift handoffs between surgical teams during surgery. Methods This cross-sectional descriptive study evaluated the quality of scrub and circular handoffs regarding duration, process, information deletion, and satisfaction with handoffs. The quality of handoff process was further assessed in six main dimensions, namely environment, process organization, communication skill, content, clinical judgment, and professionalism using CEX instrument. The information omission items of handoffs were evaluated using a guideline proposed by Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) and the SWITCH Shift Change Checklist. The surgical team's satisfaction was measured using a revised version of the clinical change-of-shift survey used in Petrovic's study. Results In this study, 66 handoffs were observed and assessed. Information omission in surgical reports was 16.81% (SD = 15.31, Min = 0, Max = 76.5) between two circular persons and 19.55% (SD = 12.32, Min = 0, Max = 65) between two scrub persons. According to a nine-point scoring scale, the mean score of handoff process quality was 5.40 between two circular and 6.17 between two scrubs. The mean duration of shift change was 62 (SD =15) seconds between two circular persons and 93 (SD=21) seconds between two scrubs. The surgical team's satisfaction with handoffs was 67.5%. Conclusion This study revealed the necessity of a structured method for handoffs among the surgical team at the change-of-shift time during surgery. The data presented in this study would contribute to developing such a framework.

Abstract. The accuracy and consistency of snow depth measurements depend on the measuring device and the conditions of the site and snowpack in which it is being used. This study compares collocated snow depth measurements from a magnaprobe automatic snow depth probe and a Federal snow tube, then uses these measurements to validate snow depth maps from an unpiloted aerial system (UAS) with an integrated Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) sensor. We conducted three snow depth sampling campaigns from December 2020 to February 2021 that included 39 open field, coniferous, mixed, and deciduous forest sampling sites in Durham, New Hampshire, United States. Average snow depths were between 9 and 15 cm. For all sampling campaigns and land cover types, the magnaprobe snow depth measurements were consistently deeper than the snow tube. There was a 12 % average difference between the magnaprobe (14.9 cm) and snow tube (13.2 cm) average snow depths with a greater difference in the forest than...

The image of nursing is closely related to the identity and role of the nurse, cultural background, clinical practice, job satisfaction and quality of care. One of the longterm challenges of the nursing profession is the general public image of this profession. The image is the assumption and perception that the general public has about a person and a profession or organization (Farsi et al., 2010). A positive public image has a great effect on attracting social and environmental support. Negative public stereotypes of nursing lead to feelings of frustration and confusion about selfimage and social identity and can create a repressive environment for the profession (Kaur Pushpinder & Rawat, 2017). In Iran, more than 100 years have passed since the academic training of nursing. In 1916, the first nursing school in Iran was established in Tabriz, which remained the only nursing programme in Iran until 1935, after which the government established four nursing schools in major cities. The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a widespread diagnostic tool in healthcare and supports the diagnosis of cardiovascular disorders. Deep learning methods are a successful and popular technique to detect indications of disorders from an ECG signal. However, there are open questions around the robustness of these methods to various factors, including physiological ECG noise. In this study, we generate clean and noisy versions of an ECG dataset before applying symmetric projection attractor reconstruction (SPAR) and scalogram image transformations. A convolutional neural network is used to classify these image transforms. For the clean ECG dataset, F1 scores for SPAR attractor and scalogram transforms were 0.70 and 0.79, respectively. Scores decreased by less than 0.05 for the noisy ECG datasets. Notably, when the network trained on clean data was used to classify the noisy datasets, performance decreases of up to 0.18 in F1 scores were seen. However, when the network trained on the nois...
