PurposeNumber of disastrous events are rising globally, and it is important to manage the humanitarian supply chain management process to assist the disaster affected individuals in terms of relief operations. Effective relief operations can help to recover the materialistic loss due to any disaster. But there is a paucity of studies regarding this issue for developing countries. This study, hence, inspected the factors that affect the disaster supply chain management (DSCM) processes for relief operations in Bangladesh.Design/methodology/approachThis study examined the factors affecting relief operations through a qualitative analysis. This study used thematic analysis. Interviews were conducted with related supply chain individuals who were triangulated by data from related publications and blogs.FindingsThe study showed that sustainable DSCM for relief operations in Bangladesh require addressing few factors as organizational capabilities, warehousing locations and inventory manag...

Many of the waking life of modern human beings nowadays are spent in some kind of work setting. So how happy we feel at work has a direct influence on the overall quality of life. Therefore, understanding what makes us happy or unhappy at work is very crucial. But, surprisingly; there is an absence of sound theoretical and conceptual framework for understanding such an important subject from the organizational perspective. For developing a conceptual framework for happiness at work, two components are relevant -the external work environment and the internal mental mapping .So to understand and formulate a theoretical framework for happiness at work, the phenomenon needs to be looked at from various dimensions. Such as, cognitive neuroscience, EP (Evolutionary Psychology) and an overall environmental influence in terms of work setting. Thus, in an attempt to foster happiness at a workplace, this paper reviews the causes of happiness and their consequences or effects at work from the ...

Saltwater intrusion is a growing concern for many coastal regions in Florida. Groundwater pumping in Florida has increased over the past years in order to meet the demand for fresh drinking water. Groundwater pumping is reducing freshwater flow toward coastal discharge areas and drawing saltwater toward the freshwater zones of the aquifer. In order to better prepare and mitigate the effects of saltwater intrusion, saltwater intrusion vulnerability maps can be created to indicate areas that may be highly susceptible. The creation of a saltwater vulnerability map, through application of the GALDIT method, allowed us to identify areas that are highly vulnerable to saltwater intrusion. The six factors incorporated into assessing saltwater intrusion vulnerability (groundwater occurrence, aquifer hydraulic conductivity, depth to groundwater level, distance from shore, impact of existing seawater intrusion, and aquifer thickness) allow us to numerically rank and map areas of low to very hi...

A happy worker at workplace has a direct impact on the overall quality of his/her life and therefore it’s very important to understand what makes us happy or unhappy at work. Also a happy worker is an important factor for all organizations development and to enhance its productivity. A company should focus on workers to be happy because of their own improvement. But, surprisingly, there is an absence of sound framework for understanding such an important issue from both workers’ and organization’s perspective. This study focus on various kinds of workplaces of Bangladesh and for this purpose a survey is done among 200 employees of six private banks within both male and female employees. The present study focuses on five particular phenomena related to identify the dimensions of a happy worker as psychological wellbeing, peer behavior, work family conciliation, work stress, management cooperation and personal development.
