ABSTRACT Stress and Work focuses on the problem of stress from various angles and perspectives and provides empirical findings relevant to different occupational settings. It provides comprehensive research literature, which has been divided along the following theoretical perspectives: Occupational Stress and Burnout; Work–Family Conflict and Stress; Positive Stress Management; and Stress and Spirituality. This volume will be a resource-book for researchers and practitioners of management, psychology, sociology, and behavioral sciences. The prospective reader of human society and human nature will find this volume to be of immense utility.

Role of human behaviour in mitigating climate change, controlling Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, reducing carbon footprint leading to sustainable development, is at the centre of all policy discussions across the globe, thereby tailoring human behaviour is considered imperative by contemporary scholarship. This study attempts to understand the psycho-social interaction of individuals that promote such a human action. Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) framework has been used to predict human behaviour assuming human behaviour for energy conservation is one of the pro-social low-cost behaviour. Value orientation of individuals, energy conservation beliefs, subjective norms, perceived behaviour control, and energy conservation attitude have been measured to gauge the behavioural intention, along with capturing the socioeconomic realities pertaining to households and individuals therein. Awareness towards energy conservation efforts and social interaction are found to be key behaviour influencers, whereas energy conservation intent is found to be gender neutral. Study implies the underlying necessity to explore mediating and moderating models in order to decipher complex interplay among key variables for predicting energy conservation behaviour intent.

The present study is aimed to understand impact of work environment on perceived work stress of oil & gas professionals working in Indian oil/gas companies and their expectations about stress management interventions in context of their organizations. To understand dynamics of work stress in Indian oil and gas industry companies, we decided to adopt qualitative approach in this research study. A convenient sample of 51 male executives who possess an average of seven years’ experience from 16 leading companies in the Oil & Gas industry in India were interviewed face-to-face by using open-ended questions that focus on work conditions, work stress, reasons of work stress, impact of work stress on individuals’ professional, personal, family and social life. The interviews also covered questions on employees’ expectations from their organizations about organizational interventions to manage stress at individual, team and organizational levels. Deadlines, project management issues, lack of resources, high responsibility and multitasking were cited as most dominant reasons of high work stress in the work environment of oil/gas industry professionals. Regarding employees’ expectations about their organization’s role in stress management interventions, majority of our respondents agreed that organizations can definitely play a major role in managing work stress of employees at individual, team and organizational levels by adopting various organizational processes and mechanisms. The findings of this study may provide many insights to HRD managers in designing workplace stress management interventions for creating a positive, proactive work culture which induce positive stress for better performance and achieving excellence.

Understanding HRD in Southeast Asia cannot be complete without looking at prominent global and regional economic, political, and technological trends. Among these, the most critical are the globalization of economies, accelerated technology and innovation, the information and communication revolution, rapid organizational change and outsourcing of manufacturing/services operations of multinational corporations (MNCs). The role of HRD has been invaluable in preparing a diversified workforce by unleashing human expertise to face the challenges arising from the rapidly changing global business environment. However, South Asian countries often suffer from ineffective government policies, political uncertainty, and lack of trained HRD experts to initiate effective HRD practices at multiple levels. Inadequate emphasis of respective governments on enhancing employee productivity and organizational change has made most South Asian countries vulnerable to rapid global changes, thereby increasing poverty combined with social, political, and economic inequality. Slow economic growth and increasing youth unemployment (9.6% compared to global youth unemployment of 4.2%) has aggravated this situation (ILO, 2012). Even though globalization has influenced expansion of international markets, the accelerated speed of business transactions, aided by information communication technologies, and internationalization of MNCs, South Asian countries still lag behind compared to their neighboring Asian Tigers: Singapore, Taiwan, and South Korea.

Films are used as a tool for teaching cross-cultural and intercultural concepts in higher education and in corporate settings. However, the processes and outcomes of using films in intercultural training and education have not been systematically researched. This paper discusses the results of a collaborative project involving faculty and students from two universities, a large public university in the Midwestern United States and a private university in India. The goal of this action research project was to further develop a methodological approach to using a feature film, Outsourced, in teaching cross-cultural concepts to graduate students, and to understand how different cultural contexts affect the effectiveness of the use of films. The project involved development and implementation of the new approach and research on the factors affecting the effectiveness of using films in cross-cultural training.

Films are considered a very valuable tool for classroom learning in management and social sciences as they communicate through their characters, story, context, dialogues and audio-effects at several levels to students. This paper reflects on Indian perspective on leadership theories through an old Hindi Classic film “Do Aankhein Barah Haath” (Producer & Director: V. Shantaram, Year of release: 1957) which was used by the author in teaching two different management courses Organizational Behavior and Leadership Skills by two different methods. In case of the course Organizational Behavior, this film was used as a case study by two different groups of students (Group A= 4 and Group B= 5) who had chosen this film voluntarily for their group project. For the course Leadership Skills, students (Sample Size = 9; Males= 8, Female= 1) submitted case analysis notes on the film on the basis of leadership theories. Students’ written case analyses (individual and group level) on this film were used as qualitative data for this research. The data were analyzed by using qualitative content analysis and thematic analysis. The qualitative analysis of students’ written statements revealed that students had identified some leadership theories e.g. LMX, path-goal (House), Charismatic leadership, transformational leadership, contingency (Fiedler), managerial grid (Blake and Mouton) and situational leadership (Hersey and Blanchard) very relevant in context of various scenes and characters of the film. At the end of the course, both the professor and students appreciated effectiveness of the chosen film in learning leadership theories and skills. The instructors’ observations of students’ reactions during classroom discussions and their written case analyses on the film suggest that this film could be a very useful learning tool in management classroom for bringing Eastern (Indian) cultural perspective to Western leadership theories.

Robust infrastructure and sufficiency of energy are fundamental imperatives for development of any economy around the globe. There is huge gap between energy needs of developed world and developing countries. Our earth has limited natural resources to fulfill our energy needs; hence we have to think seriously on saving our energy resources for future generations. We need to create sustainable habitats, cities, communities for our better life. To achieve this objective, people, industries, communities and the governments need to work together. The Paris Climate Change Agreement 2015 ensures that all the countries across the world should work together to combat climate change and balance our energy needs for the better world. School of Petroleum Management (SPM), Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar is organizing International Conference on Energy and Infrastructure Management-2018 (ICEIM 2018) in its 6th edition with an objective & scope to deliberate, discuss and document key contemporary issues relevant to managing energy & infrastructure sector with reference to emerging economies. The conference shall also focus on identifying new opportunities, challenges, best practices and strategies for sustainable growth of these sectors. Contributions are invited from Academic and Professional Fraternity as well as Management Students. For details visit our website:
