Obtained my PhD in 2015 that was funded by the European Union Research Excellence Scholarship (The University of Nottingham). My research offers a new interpretation of the post-utilisation treatment and disposal of later prehistoric (protohistoric) boats through the wood analysis of their remains as well as of their archaeological contexts;
I taught Archaeology modules at The University of Nottingham as a Teaching Affiliate in 2014-2017;
I was the Editor of Nautical Archaeology (The Newsletter of Nautical Archaeology Society) in 2011-2016;
I worked as a fieldwork archaeologist for Oxford Archaeology South and Trent & Peak Archaeology (The University of Nottingham) in 2006-2009;
I have worked and collaborated with the Nottingham Museum, conservation department, for several years on the wooden and ceramic objects of the collection.edit

Bronze Age boat models are known in the Aegean from a variety of contexts (i.e. domestic, cultic, and funerary). And although there is a great number of such finds whose context is either unknown or inadequately investigated, those with substantial contextual information can be analysed in order for the symbolic significance of the objects, and even the motivations behind their treatment and disposal, to be better understood. In this study, thirteen known boat models are contextually analysed, and on the basis of both their morphological characteristics, as these are exhibited by their physical remains, and their contextual information, their symbolic significance is explored. The prophylactic attribute of these objects is suggested, while it is argued that their symbolic significance would have derived from their full-sized counterparts.

The ship as symbol and its possible meaning in a particular context have been little explored until recent years in the field of maritime archaeology1. As Westerdahl has pointed out “it is an additional challenge to archaeology to explore and interpret these cognitive elements and their role in maritime cultures of the past, illustrated […] by the wood, the building place, the equipment, the ship as a unit”2. Here, we argue that the myth of the legendary ship Argo may demonstrate some important cognitive aspects of the use and building of prehistoric watercraft, revealing the symbolic significance and possible meanings of the ship as a material object in past societies. The archetypal symbolisms of Argo place the ship and her cultural phenomenon within a wider temporal and geographical context that may contribute to future archaeological interpretations through particular analogues.
