With telegraph signals and emblazoned on flags. Bringing the revolution to Naples, July 1820
The article analyzes how the constitutional revolution of 1820 in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was portrayed by contemporaries, who highlighted its success in a short period of time, using the metaphor of «electrical communication» to express the spreading capacity of the revolutionary message. Particular attention is paid to the individual and collective practices through which the military pronouncement of early July was disseminated and embraced at the local level.

The essay investigates a Tuscan manuscript dedicated to unraveling the intricate genealogy of secret societies in the Italian states during the first twenty years of the XIX century. Authored by an unknown writer, believed to be a spy of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, the political discourse of the manuscript strategically places itself at the core of discussions surrounding internal security and covert political associations.

This essay aims to study the processes of political acculturation in Naples during the Revolution of 1820-21 through the analysis of some dialogues published to propagate the principles of the Cadiz Constitution adopted in the Kingdom of Two Sicilies. During the constitutional months, thanks to the freedom of the press, different rhetorical strategies were adopted by writers that attempted to guarantee a political education to a large audience and to involve street performers (“Rinaldo singers”) in their pedagogical project. All the dialogues testify an effort aimed to educate the population of the Kingdom in order to steer it among the new political rights, stabilize the constitutional monarchy and ensure a broad consensus
