The article is devoted to some fundamental issues of the sociology of sport. As a research approach we take modern relational sociology. With its help one can see the social content of sport, its structure as a social activity and a place in the social system, which currently dominates the economy. The special role of the economy, among other fields of public life has long been studied since the time of Karl Marx. However, there is a danger of misunderstanding the true complexity of the relationship between sports and economy, if not to interpret the social context of each of these structures, and not try to catch the correlation components. The proposed solution places sports within modern discourse of economic sociology. However, the focus on economic relations leaves in the shadow relationships between sport and other social spheres.

Russian sociology and culture have a close bond with Europe and are less known in Taiwan, especially in sports and scientific studies. This is the first paper that provides an overview of the history of the development of the sociology of sport in Russia. It primarily centers around the development of the sociology of sport subject and the definition of sports, which are viewed as theoretical fundamentals of sociological discourse in sports. This paper also demonstrates the interrelation of the concepts of sports and physical culture (cпорт и физическая культура) in the Russian (Soviet) sociological tradition and meanwhile points out some front authors closely associated with Russian sociological concepts. The changing perception of the social nature of sports reflects the main evolution of Russian sports culture in the past century. Therefore, this retrospective article anticipates facilitating Taiwanese readers to have an advantage over the current global trend and expanding their awareness of Russian and Russian culture.

This paper focuses on one short period in life of Russian sociologist Nikolay Andreev (1874-1956). During his youth he spent roughly five years in Europe being both a student of German universities and an activist of Russian social democratic party. The historical research is based on detailed archival work carried out in some European archives, namely in Berlin (Landesarchiv Berlin, Universitätsarchiv der Humboldt-Universität), Leipzig (Universitätsarchiv Leipzig), Heidelberg (Universitätsarchiv Heidelberg), Strasbourg (Archives départementales du Bas-Rhin), and Amsterdam (Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis), as well as the private archive of Andreev’s family. Archival materials clarify the important details of Andreev’s socialization as a future sociologist. The results will be an important part of a large biographical project aimed at publishing the sociological heritage of Andreev which remains largely unpublished or completely unknown to modern readers.

The article presents findings of an empiric sociological survey of corporate governance at middle-sized industrial corporations
in Russia. Evaluation of the effect of a market, federal law, internal corporate standards, and actions of corporate governance
bodies on control and alignment of interests of participants of corporate governance has been given. Based on a contentanalysis
technique, which was applied to annual statements of middle-sized industrial corporations, formation of an insider
model of corporate governance, approval of major owners at the corporate governance bodies, who are usually chairpersons of
the Board of Directors and general managers of such companies, has been confirmed. A degree of focus on interaction with
main stakeholder groups, such as consumers, customers, suppliers, personnel, partners and banks, and governmental
authorities was discovered in the course of survey. According to the survey, the corporate law is the primary regulator of
corporate relations, internal corporate standards and rules are hardly demanded, and non-formal relations with representatives
of the governmental structures take an important place, and behaviour motivation is defined by rational profit motives. Activity
of corporate governance bodies is formalized, ensuring solutions for matters of procedure. Evaluation of the corporate
governance at middle-sized industrial corporations was obtained by way of a questionnaire survey. The level of agreement of
interests of their parties was discovered. This article presents a detailed analysis of the matter of conflicts of participants of
corporate relations, ways of overcoming such conflicts, based on defining priorities in fulfilling interests of participants of
corporate governance. The respondents measure the level of corporate governance at middle-sized corporations as
satisfactory and corresponding to interests of main participants of corporate relations.
