In 2007, she graduated with a Ph.D. in Architecture and Building Design at Polytechnic University of Turin; she defended a dissertation on Urban housing. Design issues from the Netherlands. She developed part of the dissertation as visiting researcher at TU Delft. Her research work mainly focuses on housing space in the modern and contemporary city. She published several works on this topic including: a book titled Borgate romane. Storia e forma urbana (Libria 2017, with Luciano Villani), a book titled Spazi e figure dell’abitare. Sperimentazioni e temi di progetto (Gangemi, 2009) and Housing conference. Ricerche emergenti sul tema dell’abitare (Gangemi, 2009). In 2013, she was a curator with Dr. Luciano Villani for the exhibition Viaggio nelle borgate tra passato e presente. In 2010, she won a public competition to work on a three-year research on the issue of building envelope as a system of representation of contemporary architecture. Since 2005 she has been collaborating with the academic journal Il giornale dell’architettura (Allemandi), contributing articles on architectural competitions and urban projects with a special focus on the city of Rome.
From 2006 to 2013 she was Teaching Assistant in several Design Laboratories and International Design workshops. In 2014, she obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in the 08/D1 – Architectural Design academic sector. From 2014 to 2016 she was Adjunct Professor at the Department of Architecture of Roma Tre University. Since 2016 she has been Assistant Professor of Architectural and Urban Design in the Department of Architecture of Roma Tre University. Currently she teaches the course Il progetto dello spazio urbano in the Master of Architecture – Urban Design and the undergraduate course Osservazione dell’architettura. She is also coordinator with Valerio Palmieri of the Thesis Laboratory Lo spazio dell’abitare.
In 2008, she founded with Mariella Annese Factory Architettura (www.factoryarchitettura.it) where she carries out her design activity with a particular attention to public space and urban regeneration. The works developed within Factory Architettura were published several times on architectural journals and awarded in design competitions. In 2011, Factory Architettura was invited to Architecture Talks, organized by MAXXI – Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo. In 2013 the project for the San Giacomo Apostolo parish in Ferrara (Design competition by invitation Progetti pilota 2011 held by CEI) was published in «Casabella» and showed in an exhibition called 21 PER XXI. Nuove chiese italiane at MAXXI. In 2014, the project Fuoriclasse in giardino realized in Bari for Save the Children Italia ONLUS received an honorable mention in the prize AGIbiLE E BELLA, organized by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (MiBACT) with the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), in collaboration with IN/ARCH.edit

architettoniche presentate.

The contemporary public space is going through a very deep identity crisis (Geuze 2001).The success of a public space is determined by aspects that go beyond the question of legal possession; indeed often the public sphere is staged in spaces that are available for this purpose (Bianchetti 2008). A social space is experienced in practice if other people (public or private) start to take care of a place in order to launch activities in that space. With the existence of a program of activities clearly defined that the same promoters undertake to organize, the space acquire a new sense reverberating a vital tension in the context. The public space thus becomes a common good, no longer in abstract terms (P Pellegrini e Fr Viganò 2008, Zanfi 2011). This reflection starts from the design of a school garden in the Japigia district in Bari, part of the wider project against school dropouts "Fuoriclasse" sponsored by Save The Children Italian ONLUS. The project " Fuoriclasse in the garden " involves precisely the space of the school garden, set up to accommodate the outdoors learning activities and provides an opening to the district, playing the place as a potential public space. The project action moves from the conviction that the school and its spaces are a resource for all-not an administrative enclave-which can be opened to the city, finding its nature of public building. Exemplifying the design practice, we would try to formulate more general reflections on what a public space contemporary could be, which spaces are potential resources for the community, which design issues can help to organize a living space.

----------ABSTRACT---------- The dialectic between monument and house has been a central issue since the late XIXth century, a battlefield for architects in search of the appropriate language, tone, and decorum for modern architecture. The city of Rome has been a specially fruitful testing field in this sense, instrumental to confirm or deny such hierarchies and its validation in architectural practice. Ultimately, this referential place has produced extreme positions, from emphatic monumentality to neo-realism, but has also promoted an often overlooked ambiguity of relations between domesticity and the material persistence of monument. A specificity of Roman dwelling can ultimately be traced in the bleak yuxtaposition and infiltration of dwelling in the remnants of old and new monuments, a consequence of practices that should be understood and codified as a source of inspiration for contemporary housing design

Integrated and inclusive living: social housing experiences in Milan. In Italy, the expression “social housing” seems to have replaced the traditional reference to “public housing” (casa popolare). The terminological change corresponds to the emergence of different experiences in which the social characterization takes on complex meanings, which are connected to integra on as a shared theme. New conditions provide an opportunity to experiment, with greater freedom, new forms of intervention that would interpret the social character not anymore in general terms, rather in more specific ones. In particular, the new plan may include, in the housing project, the sphere of relations with the local communities and the territory. As a matter of fact, more and more often the success of social housing is linked to the work on integrated programs, which are developed on the basis of instances that are already present in the territories, and thus can contribute to strengthen the local communities. The success of this integrated approach demonstrates how the most effective action that can be undertaken by the public sector in terms of housing policy is the promotion of collaborations with the operators in the third sector. Such collaborations should be aimed at prompting private initiative in the sector of social housing, which should no longer be understood as a mere resolution of the dwelling problem, rather as a response to a wider range of local needs.

The first ‘borgate’, built from 1928 to 1930 and now demolished (San Basilio, Presentina, Gordiani), had an elementary hierarchical structure (they were simple one-storey huts in autarchic masonry, lined up along a dirt road). In the later villages built since 1935 a monumental nucleus was superimposed on the simple orthogonal housing layout, and became the fulcrum of the settlement. The main buildings (i.e.the church, social services, commercial spaces, and the police station) were usually placed around a central square.
