In contrast to this, these authors have proposed a new model of organic relationship and coexistence between culture and nature, capable of overcoming binary models, inspired by respect for the diversity of sexes and species. These principles are found, likewise, in the artistic practices of some authors such as Bonnie Ora Sherk, FIna Miralles, María llopis or Olga Diego. This paper intend to illustrate the cultural and artistic practices of Belle Époque’s Paris (1871-1914) making reference to the phenomenon of visuality that characterizes modern society. To accomplish this purpose we analyse two habits that form the columns of visuality: dramtisation and production of images.
A conceptual promenade that takes us through different spaces of sociability as the Salon, the cafe, the sewers, the human zoo and in which we will stop with special emphasis on the morgue as the most representative phenomenon of modern visuality.
All this topics are raised from three methodological approaches: first, postmodern critical theory, by linking modern phenomena that have their acute phase of manifestation and critical reception during postmodernism, reason why terminologies and postmodern critique categories are related in both periods; second, visual culture by analyzing the processes of production and reception of the image in modern society and third, the gender perspective referred to the construction of the "category" women in the collective imaginary.

In 1895 Enrique Simonet, a Valencia-born painter presented a painting at the Paris Salon entitled “¿Y tenía corazón?” [And did she have a heart?]. The scene shows the room in a Morgue where a forensic scientist is looking at the heart of a young girl. Another
artist, Ph. Deil took part in the same event, curiously with a very similar painting entitled “Dissection by Dr...” which depicts a forensic scientist examining the body of a corpse. Years later, Fernando Cabrera Cantó, another Valencia-born artist participated
in the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris with the work “Mors in vita”: the painting depicts a moment when two orderlies are placing bodies wrapped in sheets on the cold white marble slab of a Morgue. These examples are not just mere coincidence, and neither is the fact that all these paintings were displayed in Paris and some of them received artistic awards and prizes.
These works show a new approach to death and pathology, characteristic of bourgeois society at the time and, in particular, the tendency to dramatise which was developing in the streets of Paris, from the Morgue to the Fine Arts Salon, from the Opera to the Boulevard.

This chapter attempts to examine the thorny concept of professionalism and amateurism in the art world and profession. This as no mere linguistic debate; the chapter uses evidence from artistic examples and phenomena, focusing on 19th-century Paris. This period was not chosen at whim but is justified by the momentous changes in the art world occurring there at the time.
Romantic artists and the Bohemian credo of ‘art for art’s sake’, commercial painters conditioned by the art market and the experience of a Spanish woman artist in Paris are the protagonists in this account.

This chapter has been conceived as a personal approach to the study of different aspects of gender issues in the history of art. Extensive use has been made of historiographical studies considered essential for an understanding of the themes involved; they are works that, without doubt, constitute the backbone of current artistic historiography on this subject. With this in mind, the author’s contribution is in the interpretation
and explanation of different questions relative to the aforementioned studies while not forgetting to mention a number of findings and thoughts of a more personal nature.
We are therefore dealing with a personal dissertation on the lines of study and research projects that have been undertaken in recent artistic historiography from the perspective of gender.
