Basic Business Model of European Low Cost Airlines – An Analysis of Typical Characteristics2007 •
The chapter gives a comprehensive overview of the particularities of the business model of low cost airlines in contrast to established airlines. For this purpose, safety aspects and the different cost structures of established and low cost airlines are demonstrated and a general business model is developed. On this basis, the different com-ponents of the low cost airlines’ business model are categorized and analyzed with the fo-cus on procurement and process management as well as on the marketing mix approach including price, product, distribution and communication policy.

The Concept of Low-Cost Airline Transportation: Definition and Meaning2019 •
The purpose of this study is to measure the quality perception of in-flight services for the passengers. For that purpose, the service quality performances of the two biggest Turkish low-cost airlines were evaluated within the scope of the study. The study was designed quantitatively, and the survey technique was used to collect data. The data was obtained with convenient sampling method by involving 608 participants using the package program. In the analysis, factor, frequency and reliability analysis, t-test, and oneway ANOVA tests were used. According to the results of the study, both of the Turkish low-cost airlines have high service quality scores. Another conclusion of the study is that the demographic differences are not a determinant in airline service quality perception.
The year of 2017 represents for Europe the moment to commemorate 20 years of liberalization of air transport and also the consolidation of huge transformations that take place during the last two decades in both, enterprises and people’s regular life. The “new mobility” achieved in Europe due to the development of low cost carriers is amazing and sectors like Tourism knew a great increase, new demand and above all the development of new tourism destinations around the continent. Today it is easy to fly around Europe from point A to point B due to the dynamic of LCC, their new routes, innovative offers with flexible and creative services. This special edition present six articles that focus mainly the LCC operation around Europe, giving the reader the opportunity to find several examples of LCC operation in some areas: The first article focus mainly in the LCC business model with an interesting perspective of the evolution of the academic articles in the last 20 years and above all the main operational and product features that characterize a LCC. The second article discuss how integrated are the low-cost strategies between LCCs and other stakeholders at airports and tourist destinations in Germany. This paper deals with low-cost airline business model that has overwhelmingly been the favoured mode of the airline. Fast-changing aviation industry forces low-cost carriers to transform their initial business model and therefore, author stresses further opportunities for the expansion of these models to another direction with more concentration on customer ́s needs as well as company ́s operational and financial benefits. One of the most important partial results is analysis of existing low-cost carrier’s business models, describe their historical evolution and propose future modifications to stay competitive and profitable.

The article examines the sustainability of the low-cost, or no-frills, airline business model. It looks at the background to the development of this managerial approach within the context of some prevailing business theories and considers variations on the basic low-cost airline model. It assesses, drawing from the experiences of a number of markets, whether the model in itself is likely to be enduring, or whether it is simply a transient way for some airlines to recover their full costs.

Business relations between the Low Cost Carriers and Airports as a consequence the Air Transport DeregulationThe deregulation of air transport has increased the competition between air carriers, resulting in lower fares and increased volumes of passengers. Subsequently, the fare reduction has altered the market structure with the establishment of new carriers, strategic alliances and mergers, and the bankruptcy of several traditional airlines which were unable to adapt to the new environment. The emergence of low cost carriers (LCCs) is one important outcome of the deregulation. LCCs entered the market by offering a differentiated product based on bare services offered at significantly lower prices. The main target was travelers with increased sensitivity in pricing and less demand for all-around services. The increase in terms of passengers and flights dictated a better utilization of the fleet, requiring reduced turnaround times at airports. Many central airports had very little flexibility and capacity necessary to facilitate additional timeslots. As an answer to inadequate capacity combined with higher taxes and fees, most LCCs have chosen to use secondary or regional airports. This choice has altered the balance and strategic importance between airports and increased their importance for air carriers. This paper examines the evolution and development of LCCs globally, along with the consequences of their expansion to the traditional carriers, the market and the passengers. Emphasis is given to the relationship between LCCs and airports which has resulted in an additional increase in air travel. The prospects of Greece as a market for LCCs are also being discussed. "
