— This paper presents the design of a solar tracking system driven by an AVR microcontroller. This project is done by two ways of tracking system, manual and auto tracking. This project is very useful for street light in the campus and villages. The solar panel converts the sun light into the electrical energy, because sun is a very good source of different energies. And the solar energy is the best technique for renewable energy. Basically the energy sources are two types such as conventional energy sources and non-conventional energy sources. Coal, petroleum, natural gas etc. are example of conventional energy sources and solar cell, fuel cells, thermo-electric generator, thermionic converter, solar power generation, wind power generation, geo-thermal energy generation etc. are example of non-conventional energy sources. In developing countries where electricity supplies are inadequate, renewable energy can offer an alternative to expensive extensions of the grid to sparsely populated or rural areas, or a contribution to the grid-based energy mix to meet rapidly expanding electricity demand in urban areas. This work presents an autonomous street lighting system based on solar energy as primary source, batteries as secondary source, and light emitting diodes as lighting source. This system is being presented as an alternative for remote localities, like roads and crossroads.

AbstractThe lack of natural light during night time in the urban environment has always been a problem. From people not being able to see where they are going, to the greater chance of being attacked or mugged at night which as we all know is a problem that has been in existence since humans started living together. The main advantage of this system exists in the reduction of costs related to energy consumption by the street light by integrating a vehicle/human detection algorithm into the system. The introduction of this vehicle/human detection algorithm further reduces the power consumption costs. In this project, solar PV is used to supply the energy to charge the battery. The battery later powers the operation of the whole system. The 1217V of the solar is buck to a steady 12V for battery charging. A light sensor is connected to the microcontroller that sense the light during day time, when the presence of day light is sensed the microcontroller turns ON the mosfet of the buck c...

In our country most of the energy get wasted in street lighting i.e. unnecessary lighting of the street lamps continuously. To avoid this condition we proposed remotely control automatic street lighting system. The proposed system in this project uses combination of sensors, zigbee, solar inverter and solar tracking system. Use of LED lamps and solar tracking system together increases energy efficiency of the system by 50 to 60%. Zigbee transmitter and receiver transfers all the information of the system to base station so that proper action can be taken in case of failure, Thus Automatic fault detection feature is achieved which ultimately reduces the maintenance of the system. The system is also characterized with auto switching feature between power sources that is, if voltage of solar powered battery falls below system threshold voltage level then it automatically switches to ac supply.

IJIERT-DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SOLAR STREET LIGHT AND TRACKER SYSTEMThe electricity demand of the world has crossed 25 trillion Kwatts and increasing further continuously. The major contribution of conventional sources fulfills this demand. The fossil fuels use is continuously increasing over the years with developments of many countries. Use of conventional fuel is hazardous as it created pollution on the other hand the sources of such fuel are limited. To overcome these problems renewables technology is very effective and the only alternative. Renewable technology is going to through modifications for improvements in performance with considerations of various alternate technologies. Authors have designed and implemented the solar based streetlight. The study carried out to understand the potential of solar energy and results are presented in this paper.
With the increased energy crisis and global warming, energy saving is inevitable with proper selection of renewable resource. The proposed system relies on effective use of solar energy to drive the street lights. Infrared (IR) sensor and LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) are employed in design for detecting motion of vehicles and atmospheric lighting conditions. Relays are used for switching between grid and solar power based on power availability. Light Emitting Diodes (LED's) are employed for lighting purpose. GSM module is directly interfaced with the controller to intimate the failure condition of the lamps to the specified authority. The system is developed using microcontroller and practically implemented for realization.

AUTONOMOUS SOLAR POWERED STREET LIGHTING SYSTEM2020 •
This work presents an autonomous street lighting system based on solar energy as primary source, batteries as secondary source, and lighting emitting diodes (LEDs) as lighting source. It presents high efficiency, because all power stages are implemented in DC. It proposes the use of LED-based lighting systems that receive energy from leadacid batteries, charged by the solar panels and a DC/DC converter is used to control the output power of the PV panel and the charging current for the battery. Here the control circuit basically works in two modes: light control and intensity adjustment. Under the light control mode, LED lamps turn OFF during daytime and turn ON at night automatically using a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR). The LDR performs the Dusk-Dawn operation. PWM technique is used to adjust the intensity of lamps by detecting the presence of the pedestrians using a Passive Infrared Sensor (PIR).
Countries today have started looking towards the non-conventional sources of energy as these are not only environment friendly but also very economical. As the energy used to operate a device is important, its proper utilisation too has its own importance. This paper gives an insight of the present trend of using Automatic Solar Light Emitting Diode (LED) street lights for illumination of streets. A basic model and working of this street light system and all the equipments used is presented. This new system of automatic solar LED light is, no doubt, very economical and environmental friendly.

Fully Automatic All in One Solar Street Light for Smart Cities in INDIA2017 •
2019 •
Street light is simply a device installed on roads, streets and walk-ways to illuminate the environment when the day is dark at night or a dark cloudy day in order improve night vision of users. It has become an essential structural design in every city as it helps to reduce road accidents and increase security. Many designs and construction have been made by researchers and engineers and all has been geared toward the design of a streetlight that is energy conservative, less expensive and automatically operated to eliminate the error associated with manual operation by humans. Most streetlights installed in are powered by batteries charged by a solar panel. Due to inadequate charging of the batteries, they end up being drained and are unable to be charged to power the streetlight. This design provides a system that helps maintain the batteries by keeping them from over-drained condition. A 12V dc battery which is mostly used is fully charged to 12.6V dc and when used, reduces to a ...
