Impediments of Supply Chain Management Application in Readymade Garments Industry of Bangladesh2019 •
There is a paramount importance of the Readymade Garments (RMG) industry of Bangladesh as it is the highest contributor in earning foreign exchange for the country. But the industry is facing stiff competition from other RMG producing countries including China, India, and Sri Lanka of the world. Hence, competitiveness especially at the manufacturing level became important for this industry. An efficient Supply Chain Management can increase the competitiveness and the satisfaction of the customers. Nowadays, SCM plays an integral part of a firm's success as it allows firms to quickly deliver products to the end-user for a low cost. Hence, RMG companies have very limited options other than implementing SCM as a strategy in order to remain competitive. This study intends to identify the impediments in applying sound SCM in the RMG industry. A mixed research method with a questionnaire survey has been employed for determining the impediments objectively. Use of descriptive analysis and Kendall Coefficient of Concordance have been made for ranking the challenges. This study found workplace safety, unavailability of raw materials and political instability are the major impediments for SCM applications in the RMG industry of Bangladesh.

Factors Affecting Occupational Injury and Death: Insights from Ready-Made Garments Industry of Bangladesh2020 •
Occupational injury and death are alarming issues in the readymade garments sector in Bangladesh. Every year, thousands of workers are injured and die due to occupational accidents. The aim of this research was to investigate the factors of occupational accidents and review the most common accident causation theories that mainly focus on people and management aspects of accident hazards. This paper adopted a mixed approach to identify the factors that cause injury and death accidents in the RMG sector. A semi-structured survey questionnaire and personal interview were used as the basis of the data collection. The data were then subjected to reliability analysis, correlation identification, and factor analysis to identify the accident causation factors. The result revealed that employers' negligence, legal and compliance issues, occupational health and safety, and building structure are the critical factors of occupational injury and deadly accidents. Relevant accident causation theories were reviewed and suggested for the garments' authority to prioritize effective prevention and severity minimization of garments accidents. Unlike previous studies, this paper considered a comparatively larger sample size and offers further explanations of injury and death accident factors at the RMG sector in Bangladesh. The researchers also addressed the previous gaps and provide further illustration by connecting accident causation theories for preventing future accidents. The findings of this study will enhance garment authorities understanding the factors of an occupational accident. Reverent accident causation models were also identified and suggested for the garments authority to prioritize effective prevention and erosion of death and injury accidents. Moreover, the outcome of this study will positively support the policymakers and garment owners to initiate necessary steps and control future accidents.

Resolving obstacles of Supply Chain Management in RMG industry through transportation management2019 •
Abstract - This paper tries to illuminate the issues regarding current supply chain management in RMG industry of Bangladesh and developing countries, the influence of transportation decision making in core supply chain management. Transport management aims to integrate transport decisions in core supply chain process. This paper is based on a secondary information which includes journal, article papers as well lectures given by professors. The paper finds that supply chain management many of Bangladeshi and other developing countries RMG industries exclude transportation management from strategic level decisions and considers transportation as a commodity rather than a part of supply chain management. The findings through mathematical analysis reveals that modes of transport and network routes both impact the total cost in transportation system. By empirical analysis this paper suggests that transport management should be considered at strategic level and vertical horizontal transport collaboration is need among stakeholders of RMG industry. Keywords – Supply chain management, Readymade garments, Transportation, Lead time, Cost minimization.

Increasing Efficiency: Case Study of Ready Made Garments in Bangladesh2020 •
In this article, we look at recent developments in the Bangladesh garment industry on the issue of efficiency and productivity. First, we were looking for new ideas. How are companies trying to improve their efficiency? Then, we were trying to see if there was a relationship between a companies‟ (x) efficiency and cost saving (a) and increased revenue (y). Of course, intuitively, we would all hypothesize that there must be some relationship between efficiency and reduction of cost of manufacturing and ultimately increased revenue. Further, we would all probably hypothesize that the slope of the function describing that relationship must be significantly higher than zero. Nevertheless, we tried to document the connection so that companies can believe it and give it more attention. Theoretical relationships are one of the weakest ways to try to persuade CEOs of the existence of anything. Show them the numbers, only then they will agree. This paper is an attempt to persuade a readymade garments manufacturing unit to increase efficiency to cut cost and increase revenue, we show that there is a direct causal relation to efficiency and revenue earnings.
Purpose-Despite the proliferation of supply chain risk management (SCRM) studies, a theoretically supported and empirically validated study on justifying the antecedents and measurement dimensions of supply chain resilience (SCRE) is rare. Therefore, drawing on extensive literature review, this study aims to explore and validate the antecedents and the measurement dimensions of SCRE. Design/methodology/approach-This study uses positivist paradigm using quantitative method. However, it also uses qualitative approach in the form of field study to contextualize the research model. The quantitative study is conducted by operationalising a survey research. Partial least square-based structural equation modelling has been used to analyze the data. Findings-Study results suggest that the psychometric properties of the SCRE dimensions, supply chain readiness, response and recovery, are reliable and valid. It also affirms that supply chain orientation (SCO), learning and development and supply chain risk management culture (SCRMC) significantly influence the SCRE. Further, SCRMC mediates the relationship between SCO and SCRE. Practical implications-The findings of this study will assist the supply chain managers in taking decision on readiness capability development and reducing the decisional uncertainty during response and recovery. Originality/value-Drawing on extensive extant literature on crisis management and supply chain management, this study develops and validates the measurement dimensions of SCRE in terms of readiness, response and recovery, as well as justifies the antecedent factors of SCRE, which is a novel attempt in SCRM literature.
The ready-made garments (RMG) sector has a greater potential than any other sector in terms of employment and foreign exchange earnings to reduce poverty and make a contribution to the national economy. Along with its potentiality the sector is also experiencing new challenges which can be the future determinants of its sustainability. The present study has made on descriptive research, is conducted to identify different dimension of challenges in readymade garment industry in Bangladesh and a feasible solution to cope up the challenges. To accomplish result research technique has relied based on information from secondary sources. From the inception of RMG in 1978 Bangladesh has seen a tremendous growth of the number of factories in consistent with the amount of export. In year 1983-84 there were only 134 RMG units where only 40000 workers were working in this sector but in 2013-2014 the number of RMG units increases around 6000 with the employment of around 4.2 million workers among them almost 80% are female. This sector also faces a lot of challenges like unskilled workers, improper infrastructure, electricity crisis, gas shortage, insufficient bank loan associated with high rate of interest, high tax rate, intricate social compliance, political crisis, market and product diversification, lack of new investment, poor backward and forward linkage etc. In order to overcome these challenges, we need to take number collaborative and coordinated steps to be taken from both owners and major stakeholders to reach the ultimate goal of achieving the top position in the world apparel market.
