Contamination of food and agro products in the Republic of Macedonia2001 •
The Republic of Macedonia has 662,000 ha of cultivated land with well-organised agricultural production. It is a well known producer of agricultural products. From 1991 to 1999, authorized laboratories conducted systematic control of about 6,500 food samples in 1991 to 36,000 by 1999 which included a whole range of hygienic quality parameters including microbiological and chemical. Microbiological contamination of food was reported to have caused disease outbreaks in 1,578 people in 1995, which dropped to 126 people in 1999. The decreasing trend of samples unfit for human consumption was observed for all food groups. As for the chemical parameters, an increasing trend of contaminated samples was noted only for additives, with peaks reaching 6.9% in 1998 and 4.9% in 1999 of the total number of analysed samples.
This study aim is microbiological safety evaluation of food stuff s which were imported, produced or distributed to the consumers in Macedonia. Evaluation was performed according retrospective analysis of data for microbiological food safety from the annual reports for food safety in Macedonia, for the period from 2001 to 2009. Laboratories are using accredited methods and assessment was made according national legislation for microbiological criteria for food products. Data analysis was performed according origin and groups of the food products. In 2001 8% of tested samples from domestic origin and market were microbiological unsafe, in 2005 5% were unsafe, and in 2009 the number of unsafe samples decreased to 3%. Percentage of unsafe samples from imported food products was in range from 0.3% to 1%. Most frequently isolated microorganisms were E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus coagulase positive, Salmonella, and most frequently contaminated products were milk and meat products, sweets...

Food contamination monitoring in Croatia2001 •
The Croatian National Institute of Public Health Implements the statistical food safety monitoring programme for foods marketed in Croatia in accordance with effective laws and regulations. Laboratories for food safety control, certified by the Ministry of Health, report their findings in quarterly notifications, using the standard forms and issue statements of compliance or non-compliance with current regulations, specifying the cause in case of the latter. This paper brings the results for the period 1993-99 as an illustration of the monitoring programme.

Microbiological Quality Assessment of Ready-to-eat Vegetables in Dubrovnik-Neretva County, CroatiaThe aim of this study was to assess the microbiological quality of ready-to-eat vegetables offered by local food business operators in Dubrovnik-Neretva County in the period of 2011-2018. Vegetables have been randomly selected and sampled in hotels, restaurants and retail. Analysis has been assessed according to Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005 on microbiological criteria for foodstuffs and Croatian National Guidelines on microbiological criteria for foodstuffs [1, 2]. A total of 243 samples were analysed for Enterobacteriaceae, E. coli, Coagulase-positive staphylococci, sulphite-reducing Clostridia, yeasts/molds, Listeria monocytogenes and the presence of Salmonella spp., using respective ISO methods. The results showed that 136 (56%) samples were unsatisfactory, mostly because of the high levels of yeasts/molds and Enterobacteriaceae. Unsatisfactory levels of yeasts/molds was found in 105 (43.2%) samples, Enterobacteriaceae in 96 (39.5%) samples, Coagulase-positive staphylococci in 12 (4.9%) samples and E. coli in 4 (1.6%) samples. Among these 136 samples concentration rang of Enterobacteriaceae, Escherichia coli, Coagulase-positive staphylococci and yeasts/molds were 3.20-6.48, 3.60-5.81, 3.26-4.65 and 3.08-5.48 log CFU/g, respectively. Sulphite-reducing Clostridia, Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella spp. were not detected in any of the samples. The most contaminated vegetables were arugula and lettuce, followed by cabbage and salad mix. All unsatisfactory samples were either sliced or grated. In 2017, 11 samples of packaged ready-to-eat leafy green vegetables were also analyzed. 7 out of 11 samples (63.6%) were unsatisfactory due to contamination with Enterobacteriaceae (4-5 log CFU/g), although the products were labelled as ready-to-eat with no need for washing. Although pathogens weren't isolated, our study showed poor microbiological quality of vegetables and brings certain concern regarding the safety of these products. Proper washing and adequate hygiene during preparation are a "must have" prerequisite for food safety. More studies are needed regarding microbiological quality of packaged ready-to-eat vegetables, since their mislabelling is giving a customer incorrect information.
The locations evidently contaminated by depleted uranium ammunition in the region of Vranje have been identified and marked, while local population has been warned against the danger from contaminated soil and longer stay in that region. With a view to protect the health of population, the radioactivity measurements of the environment have been performed by methodology of vertical analysis of samples. During 2001 and 2002, the food sampling was carried out from the region of Vranje in the following locations: Pljackovica, Borovac, Reljan, Bukurovac, Balinovac and Bujanovac. In these locations, the food (rabbit, grapes, thyme, blackberry, pumpkin, tomato, paprika, dog-rose berry, chanterelle, mushroom, honey, cheese, corn) was sampled from the fenced areas demarcated by the Yugoslav Army as contaminated region as well as beyond fenced areas assumed not be contaminated. Food samples were dried at room temperature, fragmented and after preparation they were placed in cylindrical geomet...

Microbiological Contamination of Vegetable Food as Risk Factor for Human POPULATION,764“The name Esagil-kini-ubba, ummânu or “royal secretary” during the reign of Nebuchednezzar I, was preserved in Babylonian memory for almost one thousand years – as late as the year 147 of the Seleucid Era (= 165 B.C.)”. Sovereignty, Property and Empire: Early Modern English Contexts2017 •
This Article is based on a larger work that seeks to map the uses of different legal vocabularies by ambitious European legal and political thinkers in the period of c. 1300-1800 in order to defend, explain and organize the exercise of power outside the domestic commonwealth. The Article examines the ways in which English legal languages (civil law, common law, natural law, jus gentium) were used to think about, propagate and defend English transatlantic expansion. For most of that time, in their relations public and private power remained closely interwoven. The pluralism of English law also contributed to the appearance of arguments from property and sovereignty in different configurations so that it is often hard to figure out which precise connotation is being made. The uses also varied significantly from Continental practices. I am above all interested in the imperial or colonial significance of these arguments. The point that emerges here is that by 1800, a conception of British Empire had arisen where the exercise of sovereign power was clearly derivative from and supplementary to claims about private property.
