Charles Baudelaire et le renouveau de l'Art Belge (1830-1918) Conférence pour l'Éventail mardi 6 septembre 2016 L'art belge, pris entre l'influence de la France et des grands mouvements artistiques allemandes et anglaises, a su se créer une identité propre. C'est plus une histoire d'individualités fortes qui s'expriment sur l'axe Bruxelles-Paris, qu'une affaire de mouvements. Régulièrement, les artistes belges ont fécondé l'avant-garde parisienne par les accents propres et leur talent, hérité de leur passé artistique glorieux. Au milieu du XIX e siècle, la littérature guide la peinture dans ses thématiques et dans l'expression de ses émotions. De la beauté sublime crée par l'artiste bohémien dans une liberté d'expression totale, à la conscience de la misère sociale, fruit empoisonné du développement industriel, ils ont témoigné picturalement de leur talent à un haut niveau. Antoine Wiertz, Félicien Rops, Alfred Stevens, Henri Evenepoel et Ensor, sont pour cette période point des suiveurs, mais des chefs de file qui ont annoncé les grands artistes du XX e siècle. A son indépendance, la Belgique était le pays économiquement le plus prospère de l'Europe, culturellement proche de la France. Jusqu'en 1850, les académies enseignent encore l'imitation de la réalité, telle que les artistes antiques l'ont transformée. La pratique artisanale ancienne du métier de peintre est en partie devenue superflue par les tubes de couleur qu'on trouve dans le commerce. Les académies enseignent les règles de la perspective linéaire, l'illusion du volume par les contours, dessiner d'après modèle vivant. Ils mettent l'accent sur la primauté de la peinture d'histoire à l'ombre de Jan Van Eyck, Pierre Bruegel et Pierre Paul Rubens, célébrée par les critiques d'art et sur le besoin identitaire d'un pays qui cherche l'esprit de la nation. L'âme patriotique s'exprime avant tout dans l'architecture et dans les monuments du passé. Dans ses vues de ville, François Bossuet (1798-1889) associe le paysage urbain et ses monuments à l'activité humaine, aussi bien en Europe qu'en Afrique du Nord. Son élève Jan-Baptiste Van Moer (1819-84), le suit avec un réalisme photographique, sensible à l'atmosphère lumière rayonnante des villes comme Venise. Le roi Léopold II lui commande sept grandes vues de Venise (1874) pour le palais et pour Ciergnon. A Bruxelles, il peint les quartiers condamnés à la démolition, suite au voûtement de la Senne (Cabinet de Jules Anspach, Hotel de Ville). François Stroobant (1819-1916) s'inscrit dans la vague du néo-gothique et cultive la beauté de l'archictecture dans ses paysages urbains, avec une nostalgie du passé. D'autres artistes romantiques à Anvers comme Gustave Wappers (1803-74) dans son Épisode des journées de septembre, 1834) et Nicaise De Keyser (1813-87) consacrent le génie de Rubens dans leurs scènes historiques patriotiques. Ils se réclament expressément du maître anversois, tout comme Antoine Wiertz (1806-65) à Liège et même Eugène Delacroix à Paris. Mais ce dernier n'en est pas un inconditionnel, déconcerté par la surcharge des compositions et l'embonpoint de la beauté féminine. Le Radeau de la Méduse (1818) de Géricault n'est pas seulement un chef d'oeuvre héroïque de l'art romantique, mais aussi un des premiers pamphlets politiques, accusant la responsabilité du gouvernement français dans ce drame. Au début de sa carrière, Wiertz veut surpasser Rubens, Raphaël et Michel-Ange dans ses tableaux héroïques et gigantesques de la mythologie et de l'histoire antique, peints dans une peinture matte de son invention. Historically and aesthetically analyzed, Maurice Maeterlinck’s first stage career (1891-1919) is examined on the basis of a triple hypothesis: the absence of autonomy of the stage as a decorative space, the extension of the domain of performance and the lexical plasticity associated with the term “décor”, particularly in the 19th century. The main issue of the study is to question both the stage set and what a priori doesn’t take part in it. From the examination of three non-exclusive dimensions of the sensitive experience of a session (epiphany, trace and imagination), a concept is formulated: that of “faire-décor”.
The analysis is divided among four sections which denote the major periods of the career in question. The first period (1891-1893) characterizes the transnational stage reception of the Belgian playwright’s first works. The second part (1894-1901) examines, in the majority of Maeterlinckian theatre’s fields of reception, the structuring of productions and their apprehension around the paradigm of amateurism and professionalism. Following the first decade, the period 1902-1907 sees several forms of institutionalization of the Maeterlinckian dramaturgy in the French field, against which foreign fields, particularly Russian and German, appears as resistances. The fourth and last section (1908-1919), largely built around the transnational prosperity that characterized the productions of L’Oiseau bleu, seeks to reflect upon the great decorative gap between the institutionalization of the fairy tale and the continued importance of the first dramaturgy as a source for reformist initiatives.

Настоящая статья посвящена раскрытию происхождения и значения образов в произведении бельгийского художника-символиста Фелисьена Ропса «Дама со свиньей» («Порнократия»). Обращение к эпистолярному наследию Ропса, воспоминаниям современников художника о «Даме со свиньей» позволило проследить происхождение и формирование его образов. Проведение формального, социокультурного и историко-культурного анализов «Дамы со свиньей» дока-зало, что в этом произведении Ропс играл со зрителем, создав несколько семантических уровней: дав работе греческое название, он изменил статус фигуры с древней музы любви на современную богиню любовных утех, тем самым сменив и смысл других образов. Из этого следует, что в образах «Дамы со свиньей» художник полностью перечеркнул лирические аспекты в пользу намеренно шокирующих тем, героев и сопоставлений, извращенных, эротических и причудливых, пытаясь пошатнуть устои официального искусства и изобличить фальшивые морально-нравственные правила общества.

This article is devoted to revealing the origin and meaning of images in the artwork «The Lady with the Pig» («Pornocracy») of the Belgian symbolist artist Felicien Rops. Reference to the epistolary heritage of Rops, the memoirs of the artist's contemporaries about «The Lady with the Pig» allowed to trace the origin and formation of images of the artwork. Conducting formal, socio-cultural and historical-cultural analyses of «The Lady with the Pig» proved that in it Rops played with the audience, creating several semantic levels: giving the picture a Greek name, he changed the status of the fi gure from the ancient Muse of Love to the modern goddess of love joys, thereby changing the meaning of other images. From this it follows that in the images of «The Lady with the Pig» the artist completely crossed out the lyrical aspects in favor of deliberately shocking themes, characters and comparisons, perverse, erotic and bizarre, trying to shake the foundations of offi cial art and expose the false moral rules of society.
