Algerian Arabic

En este libro se recogen 128 cuentos narrados inicialmente en árabe argelino, cuyo texto recogemos aquí acompañado de su traducción al español. Fueron recogidos por el P. Yves Alliaume, miembro de la Sociedad de Misioneros de África, Padres Blancos, en diferentes localidades del Sáhara argelino durante los años que vivió en esta región, entre 1926 y 1978. Van acompañados de una presentación en la que se abordan estas cuestiones: variante lingüística, la recopilación de cuentos en la literatura oral argelina y un análisis de los cuentos. Y, además, hemos añadido un índice al final del libro con las categorías de las voces más significativas que aparecen a lo largo de todos los textos. La edición de estos cuentos en nuestro tiempo tiene una doble finalidad. En primer lugar, dar a conocer una parte del rico patrimonio de la literatura oral del Sáhara argelino, que, sin lugar a duda, guarda muchos puntos en común con otros de la Cuenca Mediterránea en particular y del Mundo en general. Y, por otro, poner en valor estas narraciones entre nuestros coetáneos, tanto pequeños como mayores, en un mundo en el que la globalización y las nuevas tecnologías han dejado a un lado el valor de la oralidad y la escucha en el sistema educativo de nuestros niños, y que, forzosamente, repercute en el comportamiento de las futuras generaciones.

The Arabic dialect of Dellys belongs to the little-documented urban north-central Algeria dialect group, and - like most such dialects - it displays traits unusual in pre-Hilalian dialects, in particular the retention of interdentals. Berber, Andalusi, and later Bedouin influence are all observable in its lexicon, and occasionally in its grammar. Lexically, the Dellys dialect is particularly noteworthy for its extensive retention of precolonial vocabulary relating to fishing and sea creatures, largely replaced by French loanwords in other towns of the region. This paper summarizes points of dialectological interest in a framework loosely based on Caubet (2001).

This article presents a comparative study on the different rural varieties of Maghrebi Arabic (the so-called village and mountain dialects) with the aim of outlining their common features and highlighting all those aspects that seem to be particular to them. In addition, the classification of the Tunisian rural dialects under the villageois category is revisited, given the great divergence existing between them and those of the Algero-Moroccan group. Lastly, attention is drawn to a few (probably) coincidental parallelisms which connect the Maghrebi rural dialects to those of Central Palestine.

In the pages to follow I attempt to survey the discourse of raï, beginning at its formative years in the 1920s in the western Algeria region of Oran, and ending with its successful presence on the world stage today. The purpose of this survey is to understand to what extent has raï remained faithful to its textual roots, while along the way signposting key events and circumstances that have influenced the genre’s themes and discourse.

Using original data from the Dellys dialect, this thesis presents a preliminary map of some important points in the syntactic cartography of Algerian Arabic, mapping out some of the multiple DP-related functional positions to reveal a surface situation bearing strong similarities to those postulated by Beghelli and Stowell (1997) and Rizzi (1997). In both Algerian and Classical Arabic this structure is subject to a basic dichotomy that justifies some version of the traditional CP/IP distinction: positions below FocP are accessible to movement, while positions above it can be accessed only through the use of resumptive pronouns. A functional hierarchy of minimally six positions is required to account for the observed facts in a cartographical framework; these may be labelled as follows: TopP FocP AgrSP NegP NeutP VP.

In order to think about a range of literary configurations
of mourning, the languages used to do this work, and the public and private injunctions addressed to women writers in particular, this essay considers works by Algerian
women in which the language of literature is called upon to speak to unspeakable loss.  The texts under consideration here—Yamina Méchakra’s La Grotte éclatée (1979),
Mosteghanemi’s Memory in the Flesh, Assia Djebar’s Le Blanc de l’Algérie (1995), and Hélène Cixous’s Si près (2007)—each produce spontaneous, singular forms of female solidarity that may be said to arise both through language and outside of languages (“hors les langues” (245) in Djebar’s phrase). What is
more, they do this despite institutional expectations relating to language, religion and the
state that overdetermine the value of women’s memory work (and forgetting work).

Algerian Arabic has developed a new indefinite determiner kaš, with a number of loosely related functions. Despite its ubiquity in modern Algiers, this word is absent from 19th century sources, and appears to be a relatively recent development. More recent sources allude to it briefly without ever giving a full description. This article describes its syntactic distribution and its meaning in the dialect of Dellys (north-central Algeria) for the first time, identifying five distinct constructions in which kaš appears. It then examines this form's history based on written data. Based on the results, it reconstructs the reinterpretations that produced the present-day distribution of kaš, showing that it derives from a combination of an existential predicator with the polyfunctional morpheme ši. This finding confirms the existence of a grammaticalisation pathway from existential to indefinite quantifier, a question bearing on some scenarios proposed in the context of the debate within Arabic dialectology over the history of ši/šay'.

Algerian  Arabic  is  an  Arabic  dialect  spoken in  Algeria  characterized  by  the  absence  of writing  resources  and  standardization,  hence it  is  considered  as  an  under-resourced  language.  It  differs  from  Modern  Standard  Ara-
bic  on  all  levels  of  linguistic  representation, from  phonology  and  morphology  to  lexicon and  syntax.  In  this  paper,  we  present  a  conventional  orthography  for  Algerian  Arabic, following  a  previous  effort  on  developing  a conventional  orthography  for  Dialectal  Arabic  (or  CODA),  demonstrated  for  Egyptian and  Tunisian  Arabic.  We  explain  the  design principles  of  Algerian  CODA  and  provide  a detailed description of its guidelines.

تعد البصائر رابع صحف جمعيّة العلماء المسلمين الجزائريّين الأسبوعيّة. أنشأت بعد تعطيل الإدارة الاستعمارية لثلاث جرائد للجمعية في سنة واحدة و هي السنة المحمدية (1933) ،الشريعة المطهرة (1933) ،الصراط السوي (1933-1934) -. فقد وصل الأمر إلى أن الحاكم العام جول كارد(1930-1935) (Jules Carde 1874- 1949) قد أصدر مرة أمراً استبدادياً، يقضي بتعطيل كل صحيفة، تصدرها جمعيّة العلماء مسبقاً، قبل ظهورها. ورغم ذلك لم تنثن إرادة العلماء، وعلى رأسهم الشّيخ عبد الحميد ابن باديس(1889-1940)في مواصلة إصدار الجرائد، فأعادت الجمعيّة طلبها الرخصة القانونية بإصدار جريدة تكون لسان حالها. وبعد مدة ليست بالقصيرة، أذنت لها الإدارة الاستعمارية بإصدار جريدة "البصائر"، وذلك في 01 شوال 1354 ﻫ الموافق لـ27 ديسمبر 1935 م.
ترجح المصادر التاريخية أن تأسيس جمعية العلماء المسلمين الجزائريين كان وراء تشجيع الطلبة الجزائريين للالتحاق بالحركة التعليمية في تونس ، و هذا منذ زيارة الإبراهيمي (1889-1965)لتونس في أواخر سنة 1934،الذي أوصى بضرورة تأسيس هيئة إدارية لجمعية الطلبة الزيتونيين بالرغم من توافد الطلبة الجزائريين إلى تونس منذ  بشكل فردي و جماعي كالبعثة الباديسية التي عانت الأمرين على غرار البعثة  الميزابية التي كانت لها حظوظ وافرة بسبب الإيرادات المالية المتواجدة بتونس. و في هذا الصدد يقول الجابري :" استغرق العمل على إخراج الجمعية من طور التمهيد و التفكير و المشادات إلى الطور العلني بضع سنوات تتعلق بالأوضاع الخاصة بالطلبة الجزائريين الذي كانونا مشتتين و غير متمرسين على الأعمال التنظيمية، تنخرهم الحاجة و الفاقة و تستبد بهم الغربة و يعوزهم قلة الوعي و صلابة القيادة."
    ساهمت الظروف السياسية في تونس إلى عقد مؤتمر موسع للطلبة الجزائريين في  نوفمبر ، انبثق منه انتخاب الشاذلي المكي(1913-1988) رئيسا للطلبة الزيتونيين الجزائريين، و هذا في اطار هيكلة القيادة و تعميق عملها في الإطار التربوي و العلمي، وعقد اللقاءات مع الأوساط الطلابية بغرض التحصيل الفكري و الديني و السياسي .  من القضايا الحساسة التي كانت تناقش في الأوساط الزيتونة منذ مطلع القرن العشرين الأفكار القومية والحركة النقابية ومواضيع تحرير المرأة والنهضة الثقافية والدينية. نشط الطلبة الجزائريون بتونس في إطار جمعوي، فمنذ 1934 أسس الطلبة الزيتونيين من وادي سوف سنة 1937 جمعية تساعدهم على التحصيل الدراسي، ومنذ الأربعينيات تشكلت البعة الجزائرية الزيتونية لجمعية العلماء.

La célèbre qasida du poète Ben Gaytoun sur l'amour de Said et de sa cousine Hayziyya, originaire de la tribu hilalienne des Ahl Ben Ali, nobles de l'Est algérien, nomadisant entre Sidi Khaled et Constantine.

Ce poème à été immortalisé et repris par un grand nombre de chanteurs  entre autres: Abdelhamid Ababsa, Khelifi Ahmed, Khoudhir Mansour et plus récemment Lazhar Djillali.
