ABSTRAK. Gluten adalah protein spesifik yang ditemukan dalam gandum, dan diperlukan untuk meningkatkan elastisitas dan tekstur adonan berbasis karbohidrat. Gluten, yang diisolasi dari gandum, dapat digunakan dalam bentuk bebas maupun terenkapsulasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan gluten enkapsulasi pada tapioka selama produksi mie basah. Parameter yang diteliti adalah tekstur, organoleptik dan sifat pasta dari mie. Rasio gluten enkapsulasi terhadap tapioka adalah 97%:3%, 96%:4% dan 95%:5%. Indonesian konjac (IK in brief), also known as Amorphophallus muelleri Blume in Latin, is a wild plant growing in several places in Indonesian archipelago. The tuber of IK plant contains a compound called glucomannan which has high economic value since it can be used as a raw material in many industries such as medicine, cosmetic, paper, textile, synthetic rubber, and filming industries. Due to this economic value, this study was carried out in order to increase the productivity of glucomannan and bring IK into mass cultivation. For this purpose, the objective of this study is to increase the productivity of IK tubers by increasing the speed of seeds gemination process and by decreasing the dormancy period. Taro is an important crop in Ghana. Matured freshly harvested taro was pre-treated for 2 min in hot water blanching at 100℃, 2% w/v sodium chloride, 2% w/v sodium hypochlorite, 50% v/v ethanol and distilled water as control. Pre-treatment samples were subsequently divided into two sub-groups and spread in a single layer in cardboard boxes, stored at cold room (4 - 5℃) and tropical ambient temperature conditions (28 ± 3℃). Samples were randomly selected from the two storage conditions for flour processing at period 0, 7, 14 and 21 days of storage. Reducing sugars and water activity were affected by the pretreatments. Blanched samples showed highest reducing sugar content whereas samples treated with 2% sodium chloride solution had the lowest. The highest water activity was recorded in 2% sodium chloride pre-treatments. The least water activity was observed for control samples. The aim of the present research was to develop and evaluate taste masked orodispersible tablets (ODT) of naproxen. Over the past three decades, orally disintegrating tablets have gained considerable attention as a preferred alternative to conventional tablets due to better patient compliance. The most preferable route of drug administration (e.g. oral) is limited to drug candidate that show poor permeability across the gastric mucosa and those, which are sparingly soluble. A large majority of the new chemical entities and many new existing drug molecules are poorly soluble, thereby limiting their potential uses and increasing the difficulty of formulating bioavailable drug products. Formulations were prepared using different superdisintegrants such as crosscaramellose sodium, sodium starch glycolate, crosspovidone by direct compression method. The properties of the formulations such as porosity, hardness, friability, wetting time, water absorption ratio and disintegration time were investigated. All the formulations showed good flow properties, low weight variation with rapid disintegration time and in-vitro dissolution. The drug content of all the formulations was within the acceptable limits. The wetting time for F6 & F9 formulations was below one minute. Formulation F9 which contains 6% of crosspovidone showed least in-vitro disintegration time i.e., below 30 seconds and more than 90% drug release within 8 minutes. The in-vitro drug release of Naproxen ODT were best explained by higuchi's equation as the plots showed the highest linearity follwed by first order and zero order, the korsmeyer-peppas release exponent "n" indicated that all formulations showed a mechanism of both diffusion and erosion mechanism so called anomalous(non-fickian) diffusion. The optimized formulation showed good in-vivo disintegration time and palatable taste. The excipients used in this study did not alter physicochemical properties of the drug, as tested by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC).

This study evaluated the effect of the inclusion of rejected taro tuber flour (RTTF) on the productive performance in commercial hybrid pigs (Landrace × Duroc × Pietrain) during their post-weaning period. The experiment was established under a completely randomized design, comprising four treatments (0, 10, 20, and 30% inclusion of RTTF in the diet), using a total of 60 piglets with 15 repetitions each. The average daily feed intake (ADFI), average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion (FC), final body weight (BW), presence of diarrheas, mortality, and production cost, were determined. RTTF showed a high dry matter content, nitrogen-free extracts, gross energy, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, potassium, iron, polyphenols, and antioxidant activity. This paper uses the model of experimental mouse liver damage with paracetamol to evaluate the liver protective effects of the methanol extract (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott) (MCE). After 8 days, the hepatoprotective activities of MCE in mice (damaged by paracetamol) at doses of 500, 1,000 and 2,000 mg/kg/day proved effective as the AST enzyme content decreased by 6.98, 22.84 and 26.59%, respectively; and ALT decreased by 53.17, 56.46 and 57.93%, respectively. MCE at a dose of 1,000 mg/kg/day had a protective effect equivalent to that of silymarin (used in liver treatment) at a dose of 50 mg/kg/day and MCE at a dose of 2,000 mg/kg/day had better effect. Observation of the microscopic liver tissue cross section also revealed that the mice treated with MCE of C. esculenta at doses of 1,000 and 2,000 mg/kg/day showed significantly improvement in their liver tissues compared to the non-treated control group. Present work was focused on the comparative evaluation of the Taro tuber productivity by using improved cultivation practices versus traditional cultivation practices. Initially, passport data of all the collected 27 cultivars and wild edible aroids were prepared and their Indigenous Collection Numbers (IC) were procured from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi. All the collections were phytochemically evaluated and five variants of Colocasia esculenta (L.) H. W. Rice. corn and taro starch blends were used to prepare snacks by a twin-screw extruder at 141, 150 and 159°C respectively. Sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and phosphate buffer (pH 6.9) were found to extract more protein than plain buffer solution from extrudates. Loss of carbohydrate (maltose) was documented in extruded snacks. A universal texture analyzer (model-4301 Instron, London. UK) was used in the compression mode to record the required force to break the extruded products. The results showed a trend toward increasing expansion, decreasing density, and decreasing breaking force with barrel temperatures of 141-159°C. The surface morphology of the extrudates was examined through scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
