Evangelical churches

Los trabajos que componen el presente libro son el resultado de más de un año de estudio y reflexión realizado por diversas iglesias de la Iglesia Evangélica Española (en adelante IEE), pertenecientes a los presbiterios de Cataluña, Madrid, Levante y Andalucía; así como de la reunión anual de los pastores de la IEE (en adelante Pastoral) celebrada en la casa Mamré de Jaca (Huesca) en mayo de 2015. Estos estudios han sido expuestos, tanto en las iglesias como en la Pastoral, por Juan Sánchez Núñez, profesor de Ética teológica en la Facultad SEUT; y como responsable final de los mismos creo que debo manifestar que recogen las aporta-ciones y sugerencias que en los diálogos posteriores a su exposición se llevaban a cabo.
Este trabajo, que con tanto gusto he realizado, tiene su origen en un encargo que recibí de la Comisión Permanente de la IEE, que poco después del Sínodo de 2013 de la IEE me invitó a profundizar en el conocimiento de las bases teológicas, bíblicas y éticas sobre las que poder llegar a establecer una posición eclesial y pastoral respecto a las personas homo-sexuales. Esta posición se encuentra en el primer documento que encontrarás en este libro; es la Declaración de Mamré, y debe su nombre al lugar en el que fue elaborada, la Casa Mamré de Jaca (Huesca). Fue, precisamente, en la correspondiente a mayo de 2015, donde los pastores y pastoras allí presentes, después de dos días de intenso trabajo de estudio y discernimiento espiritual, procedieron a su redacción; siendo presentada a su aproba-ción eclesial en el siguiente Sínodo de la IEE que se celebró en octubre de 2015 en Madrid.

In evangelical communities, divorce is prohibited and a pastor is seen as a model, a spiritual guide and, above all, a guarantor of the Christian faith and morality. From this point of view, the breakdown of the marriage bond of a pastor with his wife undermines the cohesion and stability of the communities under his tutelage. This is because divorce is considered in Christian circles as a transgressive and anomic act. This article is a comprehensive approach of the divorce of pastors. It also shows its explanatory factors using a case study of two localities, the Assemblies of God Church and the International Ministry of the Revelation of Yopougon. The study was carried out using a socio-anthropological approach combined with both qualitative and quantitative methods. Based on the result of this study, the divorce of pastors is explained by several factors. The most essential include: the tensions and the recurring disputes in the couple; the continued infidelity of the spouses; the lack of forgiveness and reciprocal acceptance of spouses in case of error; the subtle flight of one of the spouses of the household, and so on. Although they are human guides and shepherds, pastors who have succumbed to these situations have destroyed the sacred bond of their marriage. These kinds of behavior of the evangelical guides have led to the regression of the social and political functioning of the Christian communities. Divorce, however, has become a symbolic act of destruction of socio-religious bonds while tarnishing the image of the evangelical world.

Welsh jurist and Anglican theologian Norman Doe has pioneered the modern study of comparative "Christian law"-analyzing the wide variety of internal religious legal systems governing Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant churches worldwide. For him, law is a fundamental but underutilized instrument of Christian identity, denominationalism, and ecumenism, and he shows the many areas of overlap and collaboration even within and between Christian traditions that have sharp differences on other matters. This Article offers an appreciative analysis of the development of Professor Doe's scholarship, and situates his work within the broader global field of law and religion studies.

En marzo de 2009 surgió en Colombia una organización indígena cuya posición política se alejaba drásticamente de la corriente principal (mainstream) de las organizaciones del mismo tipo en el país: la OPIC (Organización Pluricultural de los Pueblos Indígenas del Cauca). Este grupo respaldó abiertamente al gobierno Uribe. Su surgimiento, como lo notaron de inmediato algunos periodistas y analistas políticos, obedeció a una estrategia del Gobierno para generar una división en un sector opositor. No obstante, esa explicación es reduccionista. El artículo apunta a mostrar –—a partir de una combinación del concepto gramsciano de “revolución pasiva” con elementos de análisis del discurso— cómo el origen de la OPIC radica también en un proceso de identificación ideológica entre un sector de la población indígena del Cauca y el uribismo, cuya base, si se atiende a las raíces históricas de la OPIC, es el carácter evangélico de este movimiento. El texto busca mostrar entonces, desde una comprensión de la dimensión política de la religión, y en contravía de quienes reducen el origen de la OPIC a una estrategia “divisionista” y clientelista, en qué sentido puede hablarse en Colombia de un indigenismo de derecha.

In March 2009 an indigenous organization called the OPIC (Pluricultural Organization of the Indigenous Peoples of Cauca) appeared in Colombia whose political position differed drastically from that of the country´s mainstream indigenous organizations since it openly endorsed the government of Álvaro Uribe. As noted immediately by some journalists and political analysts, it was believed to have been the result of a government strategy to create a division in one sector of the opposition. Such an explanation, however, is reductionist. This article aims to show, by taking advantage both of Gramsci’s notion of “passive revolution” and of some features of Discourse Analysis, how the rise of the OPIC was also due to a process of ideological identification of a sector of the indigenous population of Cauca that had deep historical roots in Evangelicalism with the politics of Uribismo. The paper thus seeks to show to what extent it is possible to talk about a right-wing indigenous movement in Colombia based on an understanding of the political dimension of religion and contrary to those who consider the rise of the OPIC to be simply the result of a divisionist and clientelist strategy employed by the Uribe government.

The prosperity gospel is growing in its influence across evangelical denominational lines in Germany. Various forms of contextualizing the promise of health and wealth require careful theological interpretation. A multi-case study of three German church plants investigates their interpretation of prosperity teaching from an evangelical perspective. While the promise of physical wellbeing as a Christian birthright must be rejected as syncretism, prosperity teaching does not necessarily imply the abandonment of evangelical affirmations about conversion and transformative discipleship.

La violencia discursiva ha sido un mecanismo usado a menudo contra las
mujeres a fin de limitar su libertad. Las iglesias evangélicas pentecostales de Colombia no han sido la excepción. Aunque las iglesias evangélicas pentecostales deberían ser un espacio en donde se reciba y trabaje en conjunto con las mujeres — muy por el contrario — han sido espacio de silencio ante los abusos y las diferentes formas de violencia en la sociedad y en el seno de sus propias comunidades de fe. Este artículo propone algunas reflexiones para contribuir a la redefinición y reeducación de la función del género en las iglesias evangélicas pentecostales en Colombia. De este modo, se busca lograr la visión de una sociedad que promueva el proyecto de igualdad social en lo eclesial, lo
comunitario y lo doméstico.

Discursive violence has often been used against women as a mechanism to limit their freedom. Evangelical pentecostal churches in Colombia have been no exception. Although evangelical pentecostal churches should be a place where women are received and protected-quite the contrary-they have been a space of silence regarding the abuse and the different forms of violence in society and within their own faith communities. This article offers some thoughts to contribute to the redefinition and re-education of the role of gender within evangelical pentecostal churches in Colombia. Thus, it seeks to achieve the vision of a society that promotes a project of social equality in church, community and household.
