Flipped Curriculum

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using the LMS-Google Classroom-based Flipped-Problem Based Learning Model (FPBLM) in the process of learning mathematics in high schools in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. In this study also saw the interaction between the level of Prior Mathematics Ability (PMA) of students with the application of flipped-problem based learning models based on LMS-Google Classroom. PMA students consist of high, medium and low levels This research is quasi-experiment research with pre-test post-test control group design. The sample in this study was the second level high school students from two schools totaling 62 people. Two-way ANOVA Test and Post Hoc-LSD Test was used. Based on the analysis test, it was found that the average mathematics learning outcomes of students taught using the FPBLM based on Google Classroom LMS experienced a significant increase compared to conventional learning. The results of the questionnaire in learning also obtained results that students at the second level of high school felt enthusiastic, motivated and eager to take part in learning in the classroom. Digital-based learning with the model of FPBLM on LMS-Google Classroom provides a new experience for second-level students in High School in participating in mathematics learning both in class and outside the classroom.

Öz: Bu çalışmada, ters yüz edilmiş öğrenme modelinin temel özelliklerine, dayandığı öğrenme-öğretme kuram ve yaklaşımlarına ve öğrenme sürecinde etkili uygulanabilmesi amacıyla dikkat edilmesi gereken unsurlara ilişkin kuramsal analizinin yapılması amaçlanmıştır. Ters yüz edilmiş öğrenme modeline ilişkin elde edilen kuramsal bilgiler, temel başlıklar çerçevesinde ayrıntılı bir şekilde tartışılmıştır. Bu makale anlatıma dayalı bir derleme makalesidir. Çalışma kapsamında elde edilen bulgular şu şekilde özetlenebilir. Öğrenme ortamlarını olumlu etkileyen, eğitim teknolojisi ve yüz yüze etkinlikler ile kolaylaştırılan yeni bir öğrenme modeli olarak tanımlanan ters yüz edilmiş öğrenme modeli harmanlanmış öğrenme modellerinden biridir. Ters yüz edilmiş öğrenme modelinde öğrenci temel düzeydeki bilgiye sınıf dışında ulaşır, sınıf içi zamanı ise tartışma, uygulama ve problem çözme gibi üst düzey becerilerle geçirir. Özerk benlik kuramı, bilişsel yük kuramı, öz düzenlemeli öğrenme, yapılandırmacılık ve aktif öğrenme gibi öğrenme-öğretme kuram ve yaklaşımlarını temel alan ters yüz edilmiş öğrenme modelinin geleneksel öğrenme modeline karşı birçok üstün yanı vardır. Geleneksel öğrenme modelinde yeni içeriğin öğrenciye sunulması ile geçen süre, ters yüz edilmiş öğrenme modelinde üst düzey düşünme becerilerinin geliştirilmesini hedefleyen bağımsız uygulama etkinlikleri ile değerlendirilmektedir. Ayrıca ters yüz edilmiş öğrenme modelinin öğrenci başarısı, motivasyonu, tutumu ve üst düzey beceriler üzerinde olumlu etkisi olduğu sonucuna ulaşan birçok çalışma alanyazında mevcuttur. Ters yüz edilmiş öğrenme modelinin daha çok araştırmaya konu olması, uygulama örneklerinin arttırılması ve yaygınlaştırılması gerekmektedir. Abstract: In this study, it is aimed to make theoretical analysis of flipped learning about its basic characteristics and teaching-learning theory and approaches which flipped learning is based on. Theoretical information about flipped learning is discussed elaborately within the frame of some titles. This study is a narrative literature review. The information obtained during the study can be summarized like this. Flipped learning which is defined as a new learning model that effects learning environments positively and includes instructional technologies and face to face activities is one of the blended learning models. With flipped learning, students learn basic information outside the class and spend in class time with high order thinking skills like discussion, practice and problem solving. Flipped learning, which is based on a lot of teaching-learning theories and approaches such as self determination theory, cognitive load theory, self-regulated learning, constructivism and active learning, has many upper hand features agaist tradional learning. The time, which is spent with the teaching of new content in tradional learning, is used for independent practice activities which aim to develop high order thinking skills in flipped learning. Besides, in literature, there are many studies which say that flipped learning has positive effect on students' academic achievement, motivation, attitude and high order thinking skills. Flipped learning should be studied more and its practical examples should be increased and more common.

SUMMARY With the advent of improvements in technology, there has been a change in the methods used to teach and learn a foreign language. Flipping a classroom is one of the recent methods which requires teachers' recording the lesson and students' watching the recordings before coming to the classroom in order to spend the class time with the activities. As teachers do not deliver the lecture in the class, more time can be allocated to active learning activities. To shed light on this topic, this study, which was carried out in literature review model, gives detailed information about the definition of flipped classroom, its advantages and disadvantages, how to implement it and studies conducted to determine its effectiveness in EFL (English as a Foreign language) classes. TERS YÜZ ÖĞRENME ÖZET Teknolojideki yeni gelişmelerle birlikte, yabancı dil öğrenme ve öğretmede kullanılan metodlarda da bir değişim olmuştur. Ters yüz edilmiş sınıf, ders saatini aktivitelere ayırmak için öğretmenlerin dersi önceden videoya çekmelerini ve öğrencilerin de bu kayıtları derse gelmeden önce izlemelerini gerektiren yeni metodlardan biridir. Öğretmen dersi sınıfta anlatmadığı için, sınıf içerisinde aktif öğrenme etkinliklerine daha çok zaman ayrılabilmektedir. Konuya ışık tutmak amacıyla, alanyazın taraması yapılarak gerçekleştirilmiş bu çalışma ters yüz sınıf modelinin tanımı, avantajları ve dezavantajları, nasıl uygulanacağı ve bu metodun yabancı dil sınıflarındaki etkisi konusunda yürütülmüş araştırmalarla ilgili detaylı bilgi vermektedir. La Pandemia causada por el COVID-19 propició un nuevo escenario educativo a nivel mundial. Esta situación llevó a los docentes y autoridades educativas a transformar los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje a través del desarrollo de planes y estrategias de contingencia institucional o enseñanza remota de emergencia. La Facultad de Informática de la Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro ha propuesto una estrategia de reincorporación a las instalaciones universitarias ante la contingencia sanitaria por COVID-19. El modelo educativo en el que se basa la estrategia de reincorporación es el Aula invertida, la cual fue creada originalmente para clases presenciales. Por esto fue necesario diseñar una variación que ofreciera la alternativa de llevar a cabo las clases de manera asíncrona o síncrona en cualquiera de las tres fases fundamentales del Aula invertida. Esta estrategia se aplicará durante el segundo semestre del 2021 y, simultáneamente, se está diseñando un modelo para evaluarla. El objetivo principal de la investigación es saber si es capaz de orientar criterios educativos, además de administrativos y logísticos durante el proceso de reincorporación a las instalaciones universitarias, por un lado y por otro, sí cumplió con las disposiciones de las autoridades sanitarias y educativas: garantizar una reincorporación voluntaria,

El Aula Invertida es un modelo educativo donde el alumno desarrolla el aprendizaje fuera de clase a través de tecnologías digitales. Diversos organismos internacionales han recomendado la incorporación del Aula invertida como modelo educativo por sus resultados positivos en el aprendizaje. Sin embargo, algunas investigaciones han mencionado que es necesario garantizar que el alumnado sea capaz de desarrollar el aprendizaje autónomo previamente para que se cumplan los objetivos. Ante este desafío, se llevó a cabo una investigación de carácter mixto con el objetivo de analizar las estrategias que tienen alumnos mexicanos de para desarrollar el aprendizaje autónomo dentro del Aula invertida. Los resultados demostraron, en términos generales, que sí cuentan con estrategias para desarrollar el aprendizaje autónomo y que este hecho tiene un impacto significativo en su desempeño escolar. Asimismo, sus percepciones sobre la adquisición de nuevos aprendizajes y competencias son positivas. Se concluye que antes de aplicar el modelo de aula invertida es necesario garantizar el desarrollo del aprendizaje autónomo para obtener buenos resultados escolares. Es necesario iniciar investigación empírica respecto a las adecuaciones necesarias para adaptar estos hallazgos en las edades de 3 a 4 años.

This research reported on a trial practice of a flipped jigsaw collaborative learning (flipped jigsaw) of English as a foreign language (EFL) at a university in Japan. Its design, preparation, implementation, and overall evaluation were introduced. Individual works set as outside-class activities adopted a flipped classroom approach to jigsaw collaborative learning to free more class time for collaborative learning. The EFL students needed more opportunities to practice their target language with quality interactions among other students and teachers. The flipped jigsaw was designed to increase learners’ quality interactions and reach their higher cognitive goals. Three video clips were selected for expert group learning, and a report with four open-ended questions was assigned to each expert group as a pre-expert group discussion activity. The expert group discussion was conducted face-to-face in a classroom, and the jigsaw group discussion was held in an online chat format. The overall evaluation based on students’ perceptions of the flipped jigsaw (Class A: N = 89, Class B: N = 74) indicated that they might think that they were practicing English more than in the usual computer-assisted language learning activities. Interest in the final topic, expectation to improve their English, and satisfaction scored over 3 points in a 6-point Likert questionnaire. The results showed slightly positive attitudes toward the flipped jigsaw, regardless of the registered classes.
