The purpose of this research was to examine counselor educators’ perceptions of the gatekeeping process. To fulfill this purpose, a qualitative methodology using grounded theory procedures was utilized. Eight counselor educators participated in three rounds of individualinterviews. These counselor educators were located in the south-east region of the United States and had five or more years of experience teaching in

This study aimed to conduct a study on the possibility of offering a new graduate program particularly Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) and Master in Information Technology (MIT) for Leyte Normal University, Tacloban City. SWOT analysis was used which involved observations, interviews, and review of available documents. Results showed that based on the analysis, a favorable advantage on the part of the university. This implies that the program can sustain within a five year period from the start of program offering and onwards as there is a potential target market.

This study investigated the incidence of hand and rotary instrument separation (IS) in the endodontics graduate program at the University of Pennsylvania between 2000 and 2004. In 4,865 endodontic resident cases the incidence of hand and rotary IS was 0.25% and 1.68%, respectively. The odds for rotary IS were seven times more than for hand IS. The probability of separating a file in apical third was 33, and 6 times more likely when compared to coronal and middle thirds of the canals. The highest percentage of IS occurred in mandibular (55.5%) and maxillary (33.3%) molars. Furthermore, the odds of separating a file in molars were 2.9 times greater than premolars. Among the ProFile series 29 rotary instruments, the .06 taper # 5 and # 6 files separated the most. There was no significant difference in IS between the use of torque controlled versus nontorque controlled handpieces, nor between first and second year residency.

Nature of Science (NOS) is a component of scientifi c literacy. Much current NOS research has focused on K-12 teacher development. Today's science educators not only conduct much of this research, but are also charged with preparing futur e science teachers to effectively teach NOS. Yet we know little about the professional preparation o f science educators as they develop NOS expertise. This study begins exploring such develop ments by examining the experiences of five science education graduate students as they learn a bout NOS content, pedagogy and research during the first two years of a graduate program. The part icipants are culturally diverse, representing five different countries. Influential factors are identi fied as the students developed personal orientation s toward NOS. The change in NOS views and teaching perspectives were multifaceted. Motivation shifted from primarily external sources such as cou rse requirements, to internal factors relating to conceptions of ...

This article explores the construction of a bilingual professional identity in a bilingual creative-writing graduate program in southwest Texas by analyzing a classroom event and the participants' interpretation of it. In bilingual classrooms the resources available to construct professional identities include a large repertoire of linguistic practices and cultural frames. This context provides a space to explore how language, power, and identity are negotiated in bilingual settings. The data were analyzed from a social constructivist perspective using tools from Systemic Functional Linguistics (Halliday, 1994; Martin & White, 2005) and theme patterns. The paper demonstrates how 3 types of positioning—attitudinal, dialogic, and intertextual—contribute to the construction of various bilingual professional identities in the community and the idea that both Spanish and English are considered legitimate in the construction of disciplinary knowledge. The conclusions point to the importance of interpreting and explaining professional-identity construction as dynamic practices set in sociohistorical context.
