'Texts give us insights into the nature of ourselves and our worlds.' Harper Lee's 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird develops our understanding of the world and those around us by allowing us to "walk in someone else's skin". Set in the 1930's and reflecting the early life of protagonist and narrator Scout, Harper Lee shows the coexistence of good and evil while promoting the need for equality of all men and the possibility of social change during a time of great social change in her own context. To Kill a Mockingbird provides powerful insight into the true nature of human beings, that is whether they are essentially good or essentially evil. Lee conveys this idea through Scout and Jem`s transition of perspective from childhood innocence, in which they assume that all people are good as they had never been exposed to evil, to a more adult perspective where they must incorporate the evils they had encountered into their view of the world. A dominant sub-theme in the novel is the prejudice, hatred and ignorance that the evil show towards the innocent "mockingbird(s)". Consequently, people who are not prepared for the evil that they encounter, such as Tom Robinson and Boo Radley, are subjected to great oppression and are destroyed. Jem is also exposed to the evils of racism during and after the trial, stating that the verdict of the trial "ain`t right", and retreats into a state of disillusionment. The character of Atticus Finch is virtually unique in the novel as he had experienced "a lot of ugly things" but had developed an understanding of the evils of the world without losing his faith in the human capacity for goodness. Atticus understands that, rather than being simply creatures of good or creatures of evil, most people have both good and bad qualities. The important thing is to appreciate the good qualities and understand the bad qualities by treating others with sympathy and trying to "climb in his skin and walk around in it". He tries to teach this ultimate moral lesson to Jem and Scout to show them that it is possible to live with conscience without losing hope or becoming cynical. In this way, Atticus is able to admire Mrs. Dubose's courage and see her as a "great lady" even while deploring her racism. The novel skilfully explains that human beings have a capacity for both great good and great evil, but its when you try to sympathise with them and try to understand their circumstances that you "finally see them".

This study is mainly concern with the students’ perception as a factor which affects students’ performance in the academic subject Pre-calculus. This study aims to determine the perception percentage which reveals the level of perception of the students in the subject Pre-calculus, to determine if there is significant difference of the students’ perception in different quarters, to arrive with the relationship of Perception and quarterly grades of the students in the subject Pre-calculus, and to determine if students reached the established target grade of a better academic performance in the said subject.
The respondents of this study were the Grade 11 STEM students of Western Mindanao State University. Researchers used the Lynch et. Al formula to arrive with the 59 respondents who were asked to answer the modified and adopted research instrument provided.
The data collected were treated statistically through the Pearson correlation which determined that there is a positive linear and weak significant relationship with an obtained result of (r = 0.225) in first quarter and (r = 0.340) in second quarter. One-way Analysis of Variance was also used which determined that there no significant difference between the students first quarter perception with their second quarter perception (Fstat = 0.01 < Fcrit = 3.94). Furthermore, T-test was used which determined that there is no significant difference between the student’s performance in subject Pre-calculus in terms of grade with the established grade target of 90 as a value to know the students’ better academic performance in the said subject.

The study is a review of the literature on the basic education (k-12) curriculum specifically the senior high school (SHS) of the Philippines, Japan, and the US. Results of the review show that the SHS curriculum is intended to prepare students to enter into college/university or to work in the industry or be an entrepreneur. The SHS program is the last level in all basic education programs of the countries reviewed. The Philippines has a clearer model with at least four tracks (academics, tech-voc, sports, arts & design) and at least ten strands. Japan has two tracks in academics and tech-voc. The US basic education system varies from state to state, similar to its SHS curriculum. There is no definite track as this is left to individual state and their school districts to decide. There are purely academic, tech-voc and other types of schools. The majority of those who choose academic track are students who plans to proceed to college. There are still a stigma in selecting tech-voc and other courses as this are seen by many as the course for poor performing/problematic students. The enrolment in tech-voc schools in the US is declining despite the surge of demand for skilled workers. In the three countries, the availability of qualified teachers is still an issue. This situation is very real in the Philippines as it started the SHS program in June 2016. Other problems includes the need to construct a huge number of classrooms and facilities. All of these are currently being addressed too by the government.

This study attempted to determine the proficiency level of the Grade 12
Computer System Servicing students of Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School
Stand-Alone Senior High School in assembling Unshielded-Twisted Pair (UTP)
cable. Specifically, the study has three objectives. First, to know the demographic
profile of the students in terms of age, gender and ethnic group. Second, to know
the proficiency level of the students in writing down the standard color coding of
straight-thru and crossover UTP, and lastly, to know the proficiency level of the
students in UTP assembly.
The respondents of this study were the 23 Grade 12 Computer System
Servicing Students of Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School Stand-Alone
Senior High School of academic year 2017 to 2018.
The major instrument used in this study was some rubrics. Every student
has its individual copy of the rubrics. Frequency distribution and percentage rank
were used to determine the proficiency level of the Grade 12 CSS students in UTP.
Majority of the students were novice in assembling the UTP but assuming
that the above proficient students and proficient students were fused, still, most of
the students will be proficient in assembling UTP.

The unavailability of reference materials will have an outcome of how the students respond to this situation. Their academic performance will be the reflection of how they respond to this regard. This may result to a lower GPA or higher GPA.

Currently more than 140 countries offer, or are in transition to, what has become the international norm for pre-tertiary education, namely a kindergarten through grade 12 (K–12) school education system—kindergarten because of the preponderance of research asserting the long-term learning and social benefits of school readiness programs; and 12 years of primary and secondary schooling due to the time needed to acquire the knowledge and skills sets necessary for 21st century university education, postsecondary training, or decent1 work. This desk study2 conveys the experiences of four countries and one province in preparing and implementing a transition to a K–12 school education system: Mongolia, Ontario (Canada), the Philippines, Poland, and Turkey. Looking at K–12 transition in countries and systems that vary as broadly as this set enables common threads to stand out and divergent options to be noted.

The study revealed that there is a significant relationship between the dimension of autonomous learning as to responsibility and English language proficiency. The result indicates that students still rely the responsibility on their teacher when learning grammar and vocabulary in English. Also, it was found out that the perceived level of learner autonomy and English language proficiency has no significant relationship. The results implies that respondents' perception on their level of autonomy is not an indicator of their success in English language proficiency.
