Suggestion is a part of communication that cannot be stripped from or be considered separate from verbal and nonverbal communication.  It is through the need to view the communication processes from a complete understanding that this study investigated the possible influence that suggestion may have on an individual’s perception of reality. The existing literature was reviewed with various results from different researchers, however, much of the literature supported previous research done by Spanos et al. (1984) and Bartels et al. (2006).
Their research showed some indications that suggestion, and possibly priming may have an influence on an individual’s perception.  Using their research as a starting point this study developed a mixed-method approach in order to test some aspects of their research.  Ten volunteers participated in a mixed-methods experiment.  A Factorial Design of 2 x 2 enabled a testing of two treatments at the same time.  The participants were tested for level of suggestibility using the Stanford Scale and were then divided into one of four groups.  Groups consisted of high or low suggestible participants who were treated with a suggestion or priming words to determine their level of discomfort when their arm was placed in ice water.  The results were measured on a scale from one to ten. 
The ANOVA showed no statistical difference in the groups.  However, the number of individuals who were unable to complete the testing was all in the high suggestibility group and it appeared that individuals in the priming group, both high and low suggestible, had the greatest reduction in discomfort relative to their baseline.

Our investigative question is what part of the human psyche is active when we are sleeping.
We use the single-counter-example method, extracted from Classical Logic, to prove that it could not be the case that one of our existing models for the human psyche could explain the human sleep.
The models of the human psyche that we consider are the Freudian, the Jungian, and our own (Pinheiro, 2014a).
By proving that no known part could be active whilst we sleep, and we prove all by presenting known facts, we reach the conclusion that we need a new model of psyche to account for the entire complexity of our beings.
We associate sleep with dreams. Upon discussing the human dreams in more details, we end up applying the principles of the inference to the best explanation to explain the human dreams by means of references to the spiritual world.
That makes us think about how the spiritists would describe our psyche, and we then present a new model. The new model is obviously a fruit of speculation.
This time, the model involves all Freudian elements, our extensional elements, body, and soul. We use the synthetic method to construct our new model.
Since our sleep time is so important, to the point of obliging us to build a new model for the human psyche, we worry about protecting it.
We then use studies on the impact of noise on humans to talk about how bad the consequences of having a person speaking to us during sleep are. This trivially extends to people that are in hypnotic state.
We try to make a case against hypnosis and interference with the sleep of human beings by referring to health, spiritual, and world consequences.
Our main result is then a new model for the human psyche, and this time a model that has to do with what is beyond what has already been formally acknowledged by us.
A secondary result is that we should not allow people to hypnotize others or to speak to them as they sleep.
Our conclusions are that there is definitely something beyond our rationality that happens during our sleep time and this something has not been identified by Freud, Jung or us this far. Besides, that we should not allow people to hypnotize others or speak to them as they sleep.

This essay discusses the converging evidence within experimental psychopathology that appears to demonstrate that neuroimaging technology may be used alongside hypnosis to investigate the possibility of generating models of clinically diagnosed psychiatric disorders. Schizophrenia, conversion disorders and functional pain disorders such as fibromyalgia are amongst some of the less well understood psychiatric conditions that appears to evade comprehension. These disorders appear as if they should have a neurological explanation, yet lack explanation as to aetiology and effective intervention. The field of experimental psychopathology is an area of the psychological sciences dedicated to creating models of psychological disorders in laboratory conditions(Oakley & Halligan, 2008). This is done through studies with humans or nonhuman animals, with the aim of uncovering the pathology and upkeep of psychopathological processes (Zvolensky, Lejuez, Stuart, & Curtin, 2001). Effectively replicated models can then contribute towards the body of evidence within the psychological sciences that can be used to either inspire further research or used to inform clinical practice for cognitive behavioural therapy practitioners, clinical psychologists and even pharmaceutical development of biological interventions. This essay will briefly outline an explanation of hypnosis as it currently stands. This will be followed by a description of two key technological research methods of neuroimaging used by researchers to explore and map out brain function. A short history of conversion disorder (previously ‘hysteria’) research will be given due to the early association with hypnosis. The role of mental imagery with and without hypnosis as an alternative to using hypnosis will be briefly touch upon due to the limited scope hypnotic findings which may be difficult to generalise to non-hypnotisable and low-hypnotisable individuals which make about 90% of the population (Kihlstrom, 2013). Finally it will be concluded that there is an extent to which hypnotically induced virtual patients have indeed provided convincing evidence to support the notion that hypnosis is fast becoming a useful method that may result in interesting theoretical constructs that can inform clinical practice and motivate further investigation that could be used to inform clinical interventions and improve outcomes for patients with health disorders currently have no known neurological explanations.
