Leonardo

The authors present their studies in composing elementary wavefunctions of a hydrogen-like atom and identify several relationships between physical phenomena and musical composition that helped guide the process. The hydrogen-like atom accurately captures some of the fundamental quantum mechanical phenomena of nature and supplies the composer with a set of well-defined mathematical constraints that can create a wide variety of complex spatiotemporal patterns. The authors explore the visual appearance of time-dependent combinations of two and three eigenfunctions of an electron with spin in a hydrogen-like atom, highlighting the resulting symmetries and symmetry changes.

Perché se ‘mettere al mondo’ definisce la venuta di un bambino su questa terra, ‘mettere al mondo il mondo’, frase coniata dall’artista Alighiero Boetti e qui ripresa come titolo, sottolinea come ogni nascita sia una possibilità data al mondo di reinventarsi un futuro migliore.
Dopo l’esperienza della pandemia è il momento di pensare a una rinascita, al desiderio di ricominciare e di ricostruire. Gli artisti e le artiste, per i quali ogni opera è sempre, in qualche modo, un parto, hanno affrontato questo tema con declinazioni diverse: dall’abbraccio delle madri a quello della natura, dalla maternità come punto critico del riconoscimento dei diritti di cittadinanza al dolore di un’adozione impossibile, passando attraverso l’evocazione di legami familiari, la sfida alla disabilità di un corpo o lo stupore di un neonato tenuto stretto. Labirinti di pensieri e idee che l’autrice rilegge per noi intrecciandoli in una nuova storia, con la preziosa consapevolezza che «un bambino è nato fra noi» e che, finché questo accadrà, la speranza abiterà la terra.

Fertilization narratives are powerful biological stories that can be used for social ends, and 20th-century artists have used fertilization-based imagery to convey political and social ideas. In Danae, Gustav Klimt used an esoteric stage of early human embryos to indicate successful fertilization and the inability of government repression to stifle creativity. In Man, Controller of the Universe, Diego Rivera painted a mural of a man controlling an ovulating ovary, depicting Trotsky's view that society will rationally regulate human fertilization. His former wife, Frida Kahlo, refuted this view in Moses: Nucleus of Creation, wherein she painted images of fertilization and embryo formation as the ultimate acts of erotic consummation and generation.

Submitted: <leave for Editor to date> The wide ranging, trans-disciplinary interest in technological media suggests the possibility of a new discipline concerned with the history, implications and practice of mediation. Within this context, the field of media art gains a new sense of coherence and identity. Given the lingering tension between media art and mainstream contemporary art, this may lead the latter to assert its disciplinary autonomy. This paper argues against such a move. Media art is better positioned as an integral strand within contemporary art and, more particularly, as a key space of creative enquiry and practice within a generally conceived contemporary art education.

The field of digital image processing is reviewed with reference to its origins, progress, current status, and prospects for the future. Consideration is given to the evolution of image processor display devices, developments in the functional components of an image processor display system (e.g. memory, data bus, and pipeline central processing unit), and developments in the software. The major future trends include: increased performance through very large scale integration and integral array processors, the use of the optical video disc as an image storage medium, and automatic image analysis.

Experiments in ship camouflage during World War I were necessitated by the inordinate success of German submarines (called “U-boats”) in destroying Allied ships. Questo saggio affronta l'ipotesi che il dipinto di Leonardo non sia un vero e proprio ritratto ma una rappresentazione allegorica. Di una persona che Leonardo amava appassionatamente più di ogni altra al Mondo: la Natura.
