Science is a body of knowledge that explains the phenomena of our world through observations and experimentation. Many nations have developed because of the attention they give, and the investment they put into science education. However, globally, students’ interest in science tends to wane and so is a drop in their numbers as they transition from elementary to secondary schools. Many factors were associated with the cause in the drop of students’ numbers and interest. Since observations and experiments are the fundamentals in science teaching, we propose the use of YouTube STEM videos as effective learning resources for the teaching of science in high schools. This approach could potentially help to bridge the gap between theory and practice and likewise help to reverse the perception about science. For instance, YouTube STEM videos could motivate students, especially those in the underprivileged schools that lack the basic science resources to take up science programs. The study ...

The importance of mobile technology in today's society in general is growing. A large number of mobile phone users use a tablet to work with Internet applications. Mobile technologies are increasingly available and are beginning to use for educational purposes. It is therefore necessary to pay attention to the web application designed for the education and the use of mobile phones and tablets. The Institute of Social Work analyze the long term behavior of the users of web applications and the equipment they use. Based on the results of these analyzes will propose improvements that can help users to work with web applications. The article describes the results of long-term research that we conducted in 2013. We found that users use different mobile technologies. On this basis, we experimentally verified the applicability of LMS Moodle to work with these technologies. The approach was that LMS Moodle display for mobile devices same version as desktop browser or display a special version designed for these devices. Research has shown that users use mobile devices with very different parameters. In this situation, it is very advantageous to use so-called responsible design, which allows web application to customize the display content for a large number of different devices. The paper presents the possibility of responsible design in LMS Moodle.

In this paper we present a mobile augmented reality (MAR) application supporting teaching activities in interior design. The application supports students in learning interior layout design, interior design symbols, and the effects of different design layout decisions. Utilizing the latest AR technology, users can place 3D models of virtual objects as e.g., chairs or tables on top of a design layout plan and interact with these on their mobile devices. Students can experience alternative design decision in real-time and increases the special perception of interior designs. Our system fully supports the import of interior deployment layouts and the generation of 3D models based on design artefacts based on typical design layout plan design symbols and allows the user to investigate different design alternatives. We applied John Keller’s Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction (ARCS) learning motivation model to validate our solution to examine the students’ willingness and...

Mobile learning is increasingly seen as a boon to universities and educators as a means of enabling learning anywhere, anytime and at the convenience of the learner. Even though the field of mobile learning is in its infancy, there is no common understanding of what mobile learning is. Previous attempts at defining mobile learner have either been overly inclusive or exclusive, and have focused on characteristics of the mediating technology, the learner, or the nature of the learning activity. Inspired by Wittgenstein's theory of family resemblances, this paper explores the attempt to create a new definition of mobile learning that will be dynamic, drawing from a collection of characteristics that may change over time rather than just supplying a single, unchanging definition. The revised definition will be used to support the development of a Mobile Learning Evaluation Framework by clarifying the attributes and features to be included in a robust and flexible definition of mobil...

The main aim of this research is to study the impact of mobile technologies (mobile phones, PDAs, Pockets PC and Tablets PC) in the teaching and learning process. The project focuses on the impact of mobile technologies in individual and collaborative learning. Moreover, we intend to analyse if the mobile technologies will contribute to modify students’ attitudes towards school and towards learning. The technologies we are interested in have a small screen dimension, comparatively to desktop, so the model of designing a Web page for these mobile devices will have to be adapted to their dimensions. We will conceive Web pages, exercises, activities adjusted to these limitations. We will also integrate audio and video through podcasts, to facilitate access to learning. For interaction and communication we will use the email, the service of instantaneous messages and the service of IP voice.

Publikacja recenzowana / Peer-reviewed publicationZe wstępu: Distance learning is one form of educating adults and, therefore, it is willingly used at universities, in companies to improve employees’ knowledge, and off ered by training companies. Like every form of education, distance learning has both supporters and opponents. Preferences in this area certainly depend on a person’s experience with courses distributed with the use of the internet. If that experience is positive, participants in e-learning courses consider them to be an effective and convenient form of acquiring knowledge. On the other hand, if the experience is negative, potential users will consider such form of training as an additional responsibility or an unnecessary burden.WZiKS/DS/5/2017-KO

The Framework for the Rational Analysis of Mobile Education (FRAME) model describes mobile learning as a process resulting from the convergence of mobile technologies, human learning capacities, and social interaction. It addresses contemporary pedagogical issues of information overload, knowledge navigation, and collaboration in learning. This model is useful for guiding the development of future mobile devices, the development of learning materials, and the design of teaching and learning strategies for mobile education. Introduction Research in the fi eld of mobile learning is on the rise. Visionaries believe mobile learning offers learners greater access to relevant information, reduced cognitive load, and increased access to other people and systems. It may be argued that wireless, networked mobile devices can help shape culturally sensitive learning experiences and the means to cope with the growing amount 066897_Book.indb 25 3/10/09 9:02:46 AM 26 Marguerite L. Can mobile technology improve flexibility and quality of interaction for graduate students in distance programs? This paper reports the results of an innovative study exploring the usability, learning, and social interaction of mobile access to online course materials at a Canadian distance education university. Through a system called MobiGlam, students accessed Moodle course materials on a variety of mobile devices. The Framework for the Rational Analysis of Mobile Education (FRAME) model (Koole, 2006) was used to examine the complexities of this mobile system, its perceived usefulness, and potential impact on distance students. The researchers recommend further study of the balance between the controls and constraints of social technologies and the needs of distance students. Is there a way to achieve a balance so as to encourage adaptation to new technologies and a greater sense of “connectedness” among learners? As a result of the study, the researchers remain supportive of “de...

Thailand is beginning to emphasize the teaching of elementary, junior and senior high students to speak English. One of the key problems has been the availability of an effective English learning program. This research study evaluated the effects of a mobile English speaking software app (Qooco Kids English) for two schools using mobile devices in which 95% of the phones were Android, The research questions' focus was on English speaking ability. Qooco Kids English is an online program delivered via a mobile device. The Qooco Kids English App was used to teach children to speak English fluently by providing English audio models and frequent speaking practice with immediate actionable feedback on the English speaking of the students. Qooco Kids English has twelve instant feedback lesson modules with gamified, progressive lessons which result in faster and more engaging learning lessons. Through a pre-post experimental design, the researchers studied the speaking ability of 192 gr...

Mobile devices are becoming ubiquitous in the world today. With the power of portable computing in the hands of everyone and anyone, the time has come to consider using mobile devices for education. While ICT in education has been trialled, results have been mixed. Mobile devices are also ICT devices, so why should we still consider using mobile devices in education and what is its potential impact on the stakeholders. This paper provides an overview of what is out there and explores the opportunities and issues in regards to using mobile devices in education. Next we look at how the stakeholders in the education system, namely the education providers, the teachers, the students, their parents, and the ministry of education can benefit by successfully deploying classroom curriculum via mobile devices. Many stakeholders in the education system are already struggling to deliver basic education – what is required of them and how they should be supported if we are to convince them to us...

The hands-on use of complex, industrial Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in educational contexts can be costly and complex. Tools that simulate the hands-on use of an ERP system have been proposed as alternatives. Research into the perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU) of these simulation tools in an m-learning environment is limited. As part of this study, an m-learning simulation application (SYSPRO Latte) was designed based on experiential learning theory and on a previously proposed theoretical framework for m-learning. The application simulates the hands-on experience of an ERP system. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the results of a study of 49 students who used SYSPRO Latte and completed a questionnaire on its PEOU and PU. The results revealed that students perceived SYSPRO Latte to be easy to use and useful, and verified other studies identifying a correlation between PEOU and PU. The study also confirmed the benefits of simulation-base...

During early adolescence (e.g. aged between 13 and 15 years) communication and connectedness with peers is an essential part of their self-identity; mobiles phones are a conduit that maintains both communication and connectedness among adolescents whereby social interactions and connectedness are not limited by place, context or time. To study mobile phone usage among adolescents, Grade 9 (n= 218) middle-school students in Queensland, Australia were surveyed using a self-developed questionnaire. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between mobile phone use and developmental frameworks. The study results suggest that adolescents use their mobile phones as a way of expressing their sense of self and as a means of communicating quickly between peers.
