De diversas formas, os Estados Unidos da América pode ser considerado o país mais poderoso do mundo. Processos históricos planejados, estabelecidos na década de 1940, construíram uma via de influências culturais e garantiram a criação e o sustento de um ideal de vida estadunidense no Brasil. Assim, elementos culturais estadunidenses podem ser percebidos até hoje na cultura e na sociedade brasileira, intervindo em suas formas de comunicação, suas manifestações artísticas, e em suas celebrações. Considerando isso, o presente estudo tem por objetivo analisar as percepções dos alunos do curso Técnico em Eventos sobre a cultura estadunidense. Os participantes foram alunos do primeiro e do quarto ano do curso Técnico Integrado em Eventos do IFSul - campus Sapucaia do Sul. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de viés quali-quantitativo, utilizando-se de questionários e testes para a coleta de dados; e baseando-se nos princípios da Análise de Conteúdo de Bardin (1977) para a análise e interpretação. A pesquisa justifica-se pela necessidade de melhor compreensão das relações socioculturais entre Estados Unidos e Brasil, e pela possibilidade de melhor entendimento sobre as futuras gerações de organizadores de eventos sociais e culturais do país. Descobriu-se que o interesse dos alunos por material de entretenimento estadunidense é intenso, e esse interesse influencia a organização de eventos. O uso da língua inglesa em eventos é frequente, mas não é aceito em todas as situações. As diferenças entre os estudantes mostram que os alunos do quarto ano aplicam seu interesse na cultura estadunidense na prática da organização de eventos menos frequentemente e intensamente do que os alunos do primeiro ano, como efeito do peso da formação do curso Técnico em Eventos nos indivíduos.

This study examined trend in determinants of career choice in quantity surveying between 1960 till
date.Views from 335 respondents collected via structured questionnaire were analysed using
descriptive/inferential statistics. The study reveals in the 60s, personal interest drives choice of career in
quantity surveying. The trend however diminishes significantly in the 20th century. As a result, there islittle
progression from the undergraduate to post graduate studies in the profession. This is unhealthy for the
future of the profession.The study provides an understanding ofthe critical threat to the sustainability of the
profession and brings to bare exciting theoretical insights.

Various studies have proven the leverage of the media exposure in exerting their power on the mindset of the audiences. Therefore, this study illustrates exposure of media reports to understand if exposing to media’s reports paves the way for changes in perception. The main objective of the study is to identify perception of non-Muslim Malaysians towards information concerning Islam and Muslims in the media. The media contains misleading and unreliable contents, which can lead to destabilization by generating negative depictions on the perceptions. Significantly, in a multicultural country like Malaysia where various races are living together in harmony and peace, small portion of negative beliefs or reports on any religions or sect could jeopardizes the peace process in the nation. The major results concludes that mass media in general are all pervasive in their reports but not particularly pervasive. This statement summarizes most of the significant in currently accepted perceived facts about mass media in Malaysia. Non-Muslims in Malaysia hold positive perceptions towards their fellow Muslims. As non-Muslims in Malaysia are well aware of the media hegemony, one’s ideology could not be simply breached by negative reports. Significantly, non-Muslims respect Islam as the official religion of people in Malaysia.

The purpose of the current study was to assess for possible relationships between the internalization of the thin ideal by the media, disordered eating attitudes and behaviors, feelings of attractiveness and investment in one’s appearance in a Cypriot sample of university students. Two hundred and twenty six undergraduate and graduate-level university students answered the four measures used in the study assessing the variables of interest. Results indicated that more internalization of the thin ideal was significantly related to more feelings of unattractiveness, more investment in one’s appearance and higher incidents of disordered eating attitudes and behaviors. In addition, results indicated that the internalization of the thin ideal, feelings of unattractiveness and investment in one’s appearance were significant predictors of disordered eating attitudes and behavior. Possible explanations for these results as well as implications for the education and the health-related fields are discussed. Suggestions for future research around these topics are also suggested.

A total of 594 Spanish boys (M= 13.94 years, SD= 0.20) participated. Measures included in the study were weight status according to body mass index (BMI), sociocultural influences (perceived pressures to attain an ideal body, general internalization of an ideal body, internalization of an athletic-ideal body), BCS to lose/control weight (dieting, healthy and unhealthy weight-control behaviors), and BCS to gain weight and muscles. Underweight boys engaged more frequently in weight-gain behaviors. Overweight boys reported higher levels of perceived sociocultural pressures and general internalization compared to normal-weight boys, and were more likely to be engaged in BCS to lose/control weight compared with the other weight-status groups. There were no differences between groups in terms of internalization of an athletic-ideal body and BCS to increase muscles. Future research and prevention programs should consider male-specific behaviors and weight-status differences.

Podjęte kwestie odnoszą się do newralgicznych problemów związanych z polskimi aspektami transformacji społeczno-kulturalnej ostatniego ćwierćwiecza. Wśród nich obecność swą zaznaczyła ewolucja terminu patriotyzm, gdyż tę kategorię w warunkach III RP należało kształtować wręcz jako wyzwanie dla zainicjowanych przemian. Materiał ten rozpoczyna niniejszą część studiów. Innym istotnym elementem stało się bezpieczeństwo, rozpatrywane w kategoriach społecznych, co znalazło uwypuklenie w artykule drugim. Na tło współczesnych procesów migracyjnych, które towarzyszyły Polakom szczególnie od XVIII w., uwagę zwrócono w kolejnym studium. Następne materiały odnoszą się do problematyki nowych mediów, organizacji pozarządowych oraz zmiany nastawienia instytucji państwowych do podstawowych praw i obowiązków człowieka i obywatela. Instytucje te i instrumenty należało tworzyć w nowych warunkach bądź budować je na nowo. Dalsze artykuły zwracają uwagę na rolę rodziny, reformę emerytalną oraz projekty edukacyjne realizowane w placówkach szkolnych i pozaszkolnych. Kwestie te szczególnie silnie oddziaływały na społeczeństwo w procesie przemian. Tom kończą dwa teksty poświęcone problemom kultury polskiej i polonijnej poza granicami kraju.

Our objective was to analyze the formation of adolescents` role models and patterns within as compact picture as possible, taking into consideration developmental specifics as well as current social developments and the latest trends of youth socialization. Formation of the specific youth attributes picture covers a wide spectrum of knowledge from the fields of social and developmental psychology, Sociology, Media studies, as well as other Social sciences.

The aims of the present study were: (1) to assess the factor structure of the SATAQ-3 in Spanish secondary-school students by means of exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) models; and (2) to study its invariance by sex and school grade. ESEM is a technique that has been proposed for the analysis of internal structure that overcomes some of the limitations of EFA and CFA. Participants were 1559 boys and girls in grades seventh to tenth. The results support the four-factor solution of the original version, and reveal that the best fit was obtained with ESEM, excluding Item 20 and with correlated uniqueness between reverse-keyed items. Our version shows invariance by sex and grade. The differences between scores of different groups are in the expected direction, and support the validity of the questionnaire. We recommend a version excluding Item 20 and without reverse-keyed items.

The key research question in this paper was an attempt to determine whether the media can have influence on health attitudes, in particular encouraging physical activ- ity or practicing sports, and what forms and levels of communication via the media should be used to ensure effective promotion of pro-health attitudes among students. An attempt was made to identify the sources from which students get information about sports, as well as to determine their interest in sport disciplines and events, expectations and preferences related to sports media coverage, as well as pro-health attitudes. The study was conducted in 2017, by surveying students in selected academic centres. A total of 489 questionnaires were received, containing the answers of students from several Polish universities in different cities.

Combination of image, sound and language given to inform, seduce, disinform, educate, deceive or enlighten the audience, spectators, viewers, followers is young technology in addressing to the masses, but at the same time, it is deeply rooted in human mechanisms of getting knowledge, feelings, memories. Investigación individual que consistió en realizar un focus group con el que me reuní dos veces. El objetivo de esto era averiguar qué influencia tienen los medios de comunicación en sus opiniones. Para ello escogí tres medios: ABC, El País y el New York Times y me centré en el tema de la Yihad. Para la primera reunión, no les di ningún tipo de información sobre el tema, con el objetivo de averiguar sus opiniones iniciales entre otros elementos. Para la segunda reunión les di previamente algunas noticias. A dos personas les di 5 noticias a cada una de El País; a otras dos, otras 5 a cada una del ABC; lo mismo hice con el NYT. A una persona no le di nada. El objetivo era ver cómo habían variado las opiniones con respecto a las de la primera sesión, y ver también cómo variaban las opiniones entre los grupos que habían leído diarios distintos.

This book presents the analysis of the journalistic culture of Ecuador as representative of the Andean region and Latin America. Since the last two decades of the twentieth century, a steady increase in research in journalism has focused on the analysis of the journalist and their products – contents. Profound changes in media and political communication contributed to granting private life greater importance in political reporting. Not only did media shift their attention from parties to politicians, they also took an interest in the politicians’ entourage. The first lady, as the wife of the supposedly most powerful man in the country, became an object of public attention. Her ability to comply with social demands became of capital importance for the good image of her husband. Over the course of the last century, and despite an ambiguous media towards her political empowerment, the first lady has managed to emancipate herself as a new actor on the public stage.

This article studies the way in which the media became a key player in the creation, empowerment and definition of modern first ladyship in selected democratic countries: Poland, France and Spain. It does this through a mixed-methods approach: qualitative and quantitative content analysis of the press and extensive documentary research in the fields of political science, media and gender studies, political communication and first ladyship studies. The research finds that the press normalizes the presence of first ladies on the public stage and shapes public expectations toward spouses of heads of state.

To investigate impact of hyperlipidemia on clarithromycin
pharmacokinetics in Wistar rats, hyperlipidemia was successfully
induced by providing high fat diet (rich of cholesterol) for 6-8 weeks.
Pharmacokinetic parameters of clarithromycin in induced
hyperlipidemia and control group (non-hyperlipidemia) were
determined in rats after oral (10, 20, and 100 mg/kg) single
administration of clarithromycin. Group allocation for in-vivo study
(n=6) as follows: G1: Vehicle control, G2-G4: Non-hyperlipidemic
rats treated with clarithromycin, G5-G7: hyperlipidemic rats treated
with clarithromycin. For In-vitro study (n=4): G8: Non-hyperlipidemic rats pooled liver homogenate, G9: Hyperlipidemic rat
pooled liver homogenate for investigation of clarithromycin
metabolism. For biliary excretion  studies (n=4): G10: non-hyperlipidemic rats treated with clarithromycin and G11:
Hyperlipidemic rats treated with clarithromycin. The area under the
plasma concentration–time curve (AUC0–∞
) and the peak plasma
concentration (C
max) of clarithromycin (non-hyperlipidemic group)
was 1.77 ± 0.33 µg. h/mL and 0.47 ± 0.06 µg/mL for 10 mg/kg; 5.63
± 1.51 µg. h/mL and 1.21 ± 0.11 µg/mL for 20 mg/kg; 58.97 ± 12.74
µg. h/mL and 12.48 ± 3.8 µg/mL for 100 mg/kg, respectively. In
hyperlipidemic group the AUC0–∞ and Cmax  of clarithromycin was
3.47 ± 0.82 µg.h/mL and 0.84 ± 0.09 ug/mL for 10 mg/kg; 12.21 ±
2.83 µg.h/mL and 2 ± 0.24 µg/mL for 20 mg/kg; 141.88 ± 54.03
µg.h/mL and 20.57 ± 7.6 µg/mL for 100  mg/kg, respectively. Over
all exposure was significantly increased in hyperlipidemic groups at
across the tested doses. The percentage remaining of clarithromycin
in hyperlipidemic rat’s liver homogenates and biliary excretion was
significantly (P<0.05) high as compared with non-hyperlipidemic
rats. The % dose excretion of clarithromycin in urine was lower as
compared with bile in hyperlipidemic rats. Conclude that the
clarithromycin was considerably affected by hyperlipidemia. The enhanced area under the curve of clarithromycin in hyperlipidemic
rats might be mainly due to inhibition of the CYP mediated
metabolism in the liver by hyperlipidemia which was reproduced
in bile and urine.
