Many aspects of attention decline with aging. There is a current debate on how aging also affects sustained attention. In this study, we contribute to this debate by meta-analytically comparing performance on the go/no-go Sustained Attention to Response Task (SART) in younger and older adults. We included only studies in which the SART had a low proportion of no-go trials (5%–30%), there was a random or quasirandom stimulus presentation, and data on both healthy younger and older adults were available. A total of 12 studies were suitable with 832 younger adults and 690 older adults. Results showed that older adults were slower than younger adults on go trials (g = 1, 95% CI [.72, 1.27]) and more accurate than younger adults on no-go trials (g = .59, 95% CI [.32, .85]). The present meta-analysis integrates the results from 168 empirical studies on differences between caregiving spouses, adult children, and children-in-law. Spouses differ from children and children-in-law significantly with regard to sociodemographic variables; also, they provide more support but report fewer care recipient behavior problems. Spouse caregivers report more depression symptoms, greater financial and physical burden, and lower levels of psychological well-being. Higher levels of psychological distress among spouses are explained mostly--but not completely--by higher levels of care provision. Few differences emerge between children and children-in-law, but children-in-law perceive the relationship with the care recipient as less positive and they report fewer uplifts of caregiving.

Most of the statistical procedures in meta-analysis are based on the estimation of average effect sizes from a set of primary studies. The optimal weight for averaging a set of independent effect sizes is the inverse variance of each effect size, but in practice these weights have to be estimated, being affected by sampling error. When assuming a random-effects model, there are two alternative procedures for averaging independent effect sizes: Hunter and Schmidt’s estimator, which consists of weighting by sample size as an approximation to the optimal weights; and Hedges and Vevea’s estimator, which consists of weighting by an estimation of the inverse variance of each effect size. This meta-analysis surveyed 177 usable sources that reported data on gender differences on 21 different measures of sexual attitudes and behaviors. The largest gender difference was in incidence of masturbation: Men had the greater incidence (d = .96). There was also a large gender difference in attitudes toward casual sex: Males had considerably more permissive attitudes (d = .81). There were no gender differences in attitudes toward homosexuality or in sexual satisfaction. Most other gender differences were in the small-to-moderate range. Gender differences narrowed from the 1960s to the 1980s for many variables. Chodorow's neoanalytic theory, sociobiology, social learning theory, social role theory, and script theory are discussed in relation to these findings.

Both the professional and the general media have recently published concerns about an 'epidemic' of child and adolescent depression. Reasons for this concern include (1) increases in antidepressant prescriptions, (2) retrospective recall by successive birth cohorts of adults, (3) rising adolescent suicide rates until 1990, and (4) evidence of an increase in emotional problems across three cohorts of British adolescents.

Perfectionism is a personality trait consisting of many dimensions, and various factors are effective in the formation of this personality trait. At this point, parenting styles appear as a factor that should be examined. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between multidimensional perfectionism and parenting styles. For the study, the Eric, JSTOR, Sage Journal, Scopus, Springer Link, Taylor & Francis Online, Google Scholar, Ulakbim, YÖK (the Council of Higher Education), EBSCO Open Dissertations and ProQuest Dissertation and Thesis databases were used. "Parenting styles" and "perfectionism" were used as search terms in the databases. Seven studies met the selection criteria to be included in the meta-analysis. Random effect model was used in the analysis. As a result of the analysis, a weak and positive relationship was found between perfectionist strivings and parenting styles except permissive parenting styles. A weak and positive directional relationship between perfectionist concerns and authoritarian, protective and permissive parenting styles was also found. Moreover, a weak negative relationship between perfectionist concerns and authoritative parental style was found. There was a positive relationship between order, which is the last dimension of perfectionism, and authoritative and protective parenting styles. A weak negative relationship was found between order and authoritarian parenting style. The findings of this study revealed that all three dimensions of perfectionism are related to four parenting styles.

Systematic reviews are generally regarded by professionals in the field of evidence-based medicine as the highest level of medical evidence, and they are already standard practice for clinical studies. However, they are not yet widely used nor undertaken in the field of animal experimentation, even though there is a lot to be gained from the process. Therefore, a gold standard publication checklist (GSPC) for animal studies is presented in this paper. The items on the checklist have been selected on the basis of a literature analysis and the resulting scientific evidence that these factors are decisive in determining the outcome of animal studies.
