This study aimed to verify the association between the percentage of peripheral oxygen saturation and heart rate, before and after, music therapy in premature infants admitted to the NICU. A bibliographical survey was carried out followed by the musical selection. The 39 premature babies were exposed for 30 minutes daily, with saturation and heart rate measured before and after exposure. 51.3% were boys, the average gestational age at admission was 31.3 weeks and the most common diagnoses were neonatal infection (76.9%) and respiratory distress (61.5%). A significant difference was identified in the reduction in heart rate only on day 2 (p=0.029), and an increase in SpO2 on days 2 and 3 (p=0.009/p=0.015). Even without significance, there was an improvement in saturation and heart rate. It was concluded that music is an easy and low-cost resource, which benefits the baby's care, comforting him, calming him, improving care, which provides behavioral changes in the patient. We suggest that new scientific research be carried out in order to guarantee safe therapy until strong data are available in the literature.

Music can infect us. In the dominant approach, music contaminates listeners through emotional mimicry and independently of value appraisal, just like when we catch other people’s feelings. Musical contagion is thus considered fatal to the mainstream view of emotions as cognitive evaluations. This paper criticizes this line of argument and proposes a new cognitivist account: the value metaphor view. Non-cognitivism relies on a contentious model of emotion transmission. In the competing model (social appraisal), we catch people’s emotions by appraising value through their emotional expressions. Social appraisal debunks the main motivation for non-cognitivism and offers fruitful insights into musical contagion. Combining it with metaphor theory, I claim that musical contagion involves experiencing the music as a metaphor for emotions and values. Just like people infect us as we appraise value through their emotional expressions, music contaminates listeners because they hear it metaphorically-as some emotional expression and hereby appraise it metaphorically-as some value. As infectious music “sounds like” emotions and values, cognitivism is safe.

Background: Integration of healthcare services for preterm neonates at home and hospital by mobile technology is an economical and convenient intervention, which is being increasingly applied worldwide. We aimed to classify the outcomes of mobile applications tailored to parents of premature infants. Methods: This systematic review was conducted by searching the six main databases until May 2021. Mobile applications tailored to parents of premature infants and the reported outcomes of this technology were identified and classified. Quality of screened articles checked by MMAT tool. Results: Overall, 10703 articles were retrieved, and after eliminating the duplicated articles, 9 articles were reviewed ultimately. Identified outcomes were categorized into three groups parental, application, and neonatal outcomes. In the parental outcomes, maternal stress/stress coping, parenting self-efficacy, satisfaction, anxiety, partnership advocacy/improved parent-infant relationship, feeling of ...

Abstract Music therapy is using music and musical elements for educating and healing people emotionally. Music therapy along with lifestyle modification as prescribed by Āyurveda following Dinacarya (the rhythm of the sun) and Sadvritta (personal and social code of conduct), plays an essential role in treating disease. In this article, we discuss music and its elements in combination with Yogic practices of Āsanās (Yoga postures), Prāṇāyāmās (breathing exercises), and Kriyās (cleansing exercises) which has shown clinically significant changes in polycystic ovarian syndrome patients. Āyurveda is more than a physical medical system that states one's health is determined by the unaffected stable state of biological humor (Doṣās) i.e., Vāta, Pitta and Kapha which corresponds to air, fire and water elements in the body. An imbalance in these elements causes illness. As a part of Indian music therapy, we have attempted to provide a list of Rāgās (Indian melodies) with a particular aesthetic mood based on the biorhythm principle, which helps to balance the Kapha Doṣa that give rise to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Keywords: PCOS, Music Therapy, Yoga, Ayurveda.

The soundtrack of the short film Guardiãs do Nascimento: a poetic journey through the four elements of natureThis article is an account of the principles that involved the poetic composition of the audiovisual Guardians of Birth, focusing on the relationships between sound and image, ritual performance and nature, corporeity and affection. The short film has the aesthetic proposal of being a sound and visual journey through the gestational cycle until childbirth, guided by rituals with the four elements of nature: water, air, fire and earth. With an emphasis on the ritual dimension, the film is composed of scenes of ritual performances and an aesthetic of the narrative script as a rite of passage. The composition of the soundtrack is based on musical studies from Anthroposophy and the field of sound healing. The film aims to sow female wisdom from traditional community midwifery and strengthen the paradigm of humanized childbirth for a loving arrival of the baby on Earth.

Various external factors in uence a child's growth in-utero. Recent studies aim to investigate how external stimuli, speci cally auditory stimuli, affect an unborn child's development. Data was gathered through an online survey approach, and the investigation was carried out utilizing a descriptive qualitative study methodology. The participants were asked to participate in the research survey and ll out a semistructured questionnaire at the conclusion of the workshop, which is when the data was gathered. A total of 66 pregnant couples took part in the study. Thematic analysis was used manually to accomplish the analysis. This study investigates how parents feel about conversing with their unborn child. Interestingly, the ndings were able to demonstrate that the parents had a fundamental understanding of the signi cance of such communication in relation to the fetus's cognitive growth elements. According to the participants' comments, there may be a limit to communicating in the womb due to physical and social issues such as household conditions, social taboos, shyness, being judged in public settings like workplaces, and a lack of family incentive to foster this link between mother and baby. The impact of stressors, anxiety, and mental health on foetal growth and development as well as the mother's reactions to the infant were also analyzed. Parents also discussed the obstacles they had during their pregnancy, discussing how communication is one-way and how challenging it is for parents to comprehend the fetus's signals and reactions.

Musician's dystonia is a task-specific dystonia (TSD) worldwide disabling disorder, and most of the affected individuals may have severe difficulty to play their instrument. Many professional music players may have to quit working as a player. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the clinical characteristics and frequency of TSD in Brazilian music players and to promote awareness of this condition among musicians. We visited orchestras and music schools delivering lectures on TSD and about the scope of our survey. Musicians were invited to answer a questionnaire, and those with possible neurological dysfunction associated with musical performance were recorded by video while playing the instrument. We visited 51 orchestras and music schools in 19 Brazilian cities between March 2013 and March 2015. We collected 2,232 questionnaires, and 72 subjects with suspicion of dystonia were video recorded during specific tasks and evaluated regarding motor impairment. Forty-ni...

Music has strong emotional powers. How are we to understand affective responses to music? What does music teach us about emotions? Why are musical emotions important? Despite the rich literature in philosophy and the empirical sciences, particularly psychology and neuroscience, little attention has been paid to integrating these approaches. This extensive review aims to redress this imbalance and establish a mutual dialogue between philosophy and the empirical sciences by presenting the main philosophical puzzles from an affective science perspective. The chief problem is contagion. Sometimes, listeners perceive music as expressing some emotion and this elicits the same emotion in them. Contagion is perplexing because it collides with the leading theory of emotions as experiences of values. This article mostly revolves around the critical presentation of the philosophical solutions to this problem in light of recent developments in emotion theory and affective science. It also highlights practical issues, particularly the role of musical emotions in well-being and health, by tackling the paradox of sad music, i.e., the question of why people enjoy sad music. It thus bridges an important gap between theoretical and real-life issues as well as between philosophical and empirical investigations on affective responses to music.

Gerace, A ORCiD: 0000-0001-8272-8799; Reynolds, AC ORCiD: 0000-0001-9534-8699In 2017, the Marriage Amendment Act was passed, which made same-sex marriage (SSM) legal in Australia. Research has identified factors that predict support for SSM. However, cultural and political differences between countries where the majority of research has originated makes generalising findings to Australia difficult. The purpose of this study was to investigate demographic, personality, and social psychological factors as predictors of both attitudes toward SSM and response to the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey, which preceded the amendment. A sample of Australian citizens (n = 259) over 18 completed an anonymous online survey measuring demographics, religiosity, political conservatism, beliefs about marriage and sexuality, and personality characteristics (including empathy, openness to experience, rightwing authoritarianism, social dominance orientation). A series of separate linear (for SSM a...

INTRODUCTION The purpose of this manuscript is to report on the finding of asynchrony measures during Improvised Active Music Therapy (IAMT) sessions with individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). METHOD In this single subject multiple baseline design across subjects, the study measured asynchrony of three right-handed participants with PD while playing uninterrupted improvised music on a simplified electronic drum-set. During baseline, the music therapist played rhythms with lowto moderate density of syncopation. During treatment, the music therapist introduced rhythms with moderate to high density of syncopation. The music content of the sessions was transformed into digital music using Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI). MIDI data were analyzed to determine participants' and the music therapist's asynchrony (on acoustic guitar) during baseline and treatment conditions. RESULTS The results of this manuscript suggest that all participants exhibited total negative mean asynchrony and in that the music therapist exhibited total positive mean asynchrony scores within and across conditions. All participants also demonstrated score fluctuation in left foot and right foot as compared to upper extremity within and across conditions. DISCUSSION Overall, participants showed their ability to synchronize to the music produced by the music therapist throughout conditions by demonstrating anticipation. Also, participants demonstrated some difficulty while synchronizing with lower extremity. Music therapy clinicians might benefit from knowledge of their own tempo inconsistencies to be able to synchronize with clients more effectively. More research is required to identify commonalities and differences in music synchronization measures between individuals with PD and healthy individuals during IAMT sessions.

Background: The famous rasa theory, with its three complete components, has been widely discussed in the doctrines of poetics and dramaturgy but not in the context of pure music. This study tries to find out the application of three rasa components in the context of Nonlyrical Nonpercussive Indian Pure Music (NNIPM). This would help the field of Indian music therapy to explore its application as a rendition according to desirable emotions relevant to needful subjects after customizing it to the individual need. Aim: This pilot study aims to know the pragmatic approach of rasa theory regarding NNIPM, coupled with rasa-centric rendering method to evoke śānta rasa (related to calmness, satisfaction, pleasantness, and other related emotions). Materials and Methods: Five music clips were recorded on Rudra Vīṇā, which are the stimuli to get emotional responses from fifty participants. A questionnaire was developed to elicit psychophysical responses and transitory emotions to get emotional reactions from them. Based on rasa theory, a Rasa-Matrix (RM) was designed. Based on RM, a Rasa Equation formula was further designed to get the rasa values of each response. Results: Fifty people participated from India and Bangladesh (n = 50). There were 210 (84%) rasa responses, and 40 (16%) were null as the rasa outcomes overlapped. According to Cronbach's alpha for reliability and internal consistency, the questionnaire was highly reliable for all five tunes (α was always 0.86-0.89). Accuracy of desirable śāntarasa (0.98, P < 0.001) was satisfactory. Conclusion: This study shows that the application of rasa theory regarding NNIPM is a reliable approach for emotion-centric music therapy. With the help of the rasa-centric rendering method, there is a considerable potential to create tunes that will be more helpful for inclusion as part of Indian music therapy in specific mental health conditions.
