В последние годы в отечественных музеях наметились две противоречивые тенденции, связанные с изучением и экспонированием картинных рам. С одной стороны, эти произведения оказались, наконец, в фокусе научных интересов. Появились публикации, посвященные развитию рамочного дела в России, значению рамы в восприятии картины и убранстве интерьера, статьи о владельческих и авторских рамах. Вместе с тем, обрамление картин в музеях по-прежнему не осуществляется на основании исследований. На фоне активно развивающегося багетного рынка музейные сотрудники все чаще меняют исторические рамы на фабричный ширпотреб, не задумываясь ни об исторической достоверности и подлинности картинного обрамления в экспозиции, ни о необходимости сохранения замысла художников. Между тем, известно, что художники различных эпох, как правило, с большим вниманием относились к выбору картинного обрамления, а некоторые сами создавали рамы. К последним относится и А. Н. Самохвалов. Несмотря на то, что изучение творчества художника началось еще в 1930-е гг., до сих пор никто из исследователей не уделял внимания оригинальным рамам, дополняющим его картины. Тогда как сам Самохвалов не раз писал о рамах. В 1962 г. готовясь к персональной выставке в ЛОСХе, художник разработал дизайн рам для многих, в первую очередь, ранних своих произведений. Находящиеся в частном собрании эскизы рам художника позволяют сегодня атрибутировать целый ряд созданных по ним произведений декоративного искусства. Сравнение их с картинным обрамлением различных эпох позволяет говорить о том, что Самохвалов сказал новое слово в дизайне рамы. Роль авторских рам художника в восприятии его живописи очевидна. Замена рамы или изменение ее цвета, как это уже случалось в отдельных музеях, неизбежно влечет за собой зрительное воздействие на картину.

Интерес к картинным рамам в России сегодня постепенно растет. А что же происходит в Европе, где еще в конце XIX века началось изучение картинных рам? Как там обстоит дело с их коллекционированием, сохранением и реставрацией? Эти вопросы затрагиваются в беседе российского специалиста по картинным рамам Оксаны Лысенко и немецкого коллекционера, реставратора, эксперта по картинным рамам Олафа Лемке.

Summary/Zusammenfassung:

The paintings gallery of the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum holds one of the great princely collections in Germany. Its core consists in the acquisitions of Duke Anton Ulrich of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel in the late 17th and early 18th century. To house these paintings, the Duke ordered one of the first independent gallery-buildings in Europe to be erected as part of his palace Salzdahlum. But the current frames of the paintings rarely provide evidence of this long history of the collection. They are furthermore dominated by classicist picture frames of the 19th century. Just a small number of paintings still remains in their baroque frames, many stored in the museums depository. Those examples are today valuable sources for the otherwise not documented framings at the lost gallery of Salzdahlum palace. The surviving baroque frames encompass examples in which the paintings were originally acquired as well as products of local workshops, adapting and interpreting various stylistic influences.
Furthermore the observations for Braunschweig get contextualized in the wider development of gallery-framings throughout the 18th century.

Die Gemäldegalerie des Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museums zeigt eine der bedeutenden fürstlichen Sammlungen Deutschlands. Ihr Kernbestand geht auf die Erwerbungen Herzog Anton Ulrichs von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel im späten 17. und frühen 18. Jahrhundert zurück. Um seine Sammlung zu präsentieren, ließ der Herzog eines der ersten freistehenden Galeriegebäude Europas an seinem Schloss Salzdahlum errichten. Die gegenwärtigen Rahmungen der Gemälde geben jedoch nur wenige Hinweise auf diese lange Geschichte der Sammlung. Sie werden vielmehr von klassizistischen Rahmen des 19. Jahrhunderts dominiert. Nur eine relativ kleine Zahl von Bildern trägt noch ihre barocken Rahmen, viele von Ihnen verwahrt in den Depots des Museums. Diese Beispiele bilden heute wertvolle Quellen für die sonst nicht dokumentierten Rahmungen der Salzdahlumer Galerie. Der erhaltene Bestand reicht dabei von „Originalrahmen“, die wohl bereits mit den Gemälden erworben wurden, bis hin zu Produkten lokaler Werkstätten, die unterschiedlichste Einflüsse aufnahmen und neu interpretierten.
Darüber hinaus werden die Beobachtungen zur Braunschweiger Sammlung in den weiteren Kontext der Entwicklung der Galerierahmung im 18. Jahrhundert eingebunden.

Статья посвящена атрибуции ценнейшего памятника из собрания Государственного Русского музея - итальянской рамы XVI в., которую была выбрана К.А. Сотовым для одного из его произведений. В тексте изложена почти детективная история, связанная с "пропажей" рамы (как полагал директор Русского музея В.А. Пушкарев).

In 1783, Nicolas De Launay copied Les Baignets by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, stating it was made “by his very humble and very obedient servant”, an evidence of the hierarchical tensions between painters and printmakers during the eighteenth-century. However, De Launay’s loyalty is not absolute, since a critical artistic statement is found at the edge: an illusory oval frame heavily adorned with leaves and fruits of Squash, Hazelnuts, and Oak. This paper wishes to acknowledge this meticulously engraved frame, and many more added to copies throughout De Launay’s successful career, as highly relevant in examining his ‘obedience’ and ‘humbleness’. With regard to eighteenth-century writings on botany and authenticity, and to current studies on the print market, I offer a new perspective in which engravers are appreciated as active commercial artists establishing an individual signature style. In their conceptual and physical marginality these decorations allow creative freedom which challenges concepts of art appropriation and reproduction, highly relevant then and today.

Een nieuwe inlijsting van een laat 14e -eeuwse paneelschildering uit Haarlem: De Heilige Maagschap door Geertgen tot Sint Jans. Nog aanwezige lichtgroene verf op de 'baard' rondom het beschilderde oppervlak vormen een belangrijke aanwijzing voor de afwerking van een verdwenen oorspronkelijke schilderijlijst.
