Presently, in Singapore and most of the countries, many students have avoided doing STEM courses because it is difficult and it does not pay them well after graduation. The country is experiencing lack of good engineers, technologists and scientists [1], [2]. An initiative has been started to introduce STEM to students at young age in a fun and yet effective learning way. Team TBSS designed and developed a 6-hour STEM targeting pupils between 10 and 12 years old who are reading primary 4 and primary 6 in school. The program has been conducted several times with Henry Park Primary School. The process, findings and experiences will be shared in this paper.

In Singapore, majority of the parents want their children to pursue a medical, legal or accounting career, and students prefer business, finance or management courses. The main reason being engineering is one of the most difficult courses and engineering career does not fetch as good remuneration as the other professional careers. The nation is experiencing lack of engineering, technologists and scientists. The “Inspire Me, Start Early” initiative attempts to introduce STEM to students at young age, in a fun and yet effective learning way. Team TBSS had designed and developed a 6-hour STEM targeting pupils between 10 and 12 years old who are reading primary 4 and primary 6 education. Resumo: Esse artigo apresenta os relatos de experiências do Clube de Robótica de uma escola da rede particular de ensino do Rio de Janeiro. O Clube de Robótica, atende os alunos do 5º ao 7º ano do Ensino fundamental como atividade extraclasse. Utilizamos o método de pesquisação durante as atividades desenvolvidas, sendo observados o grupo de alunos com idade entre 9 e 12 anos. A proposta dessa pesquisa foi investigar como o uso da Robótica Educacional pode influenciar no processo de aprendizagem dos alunos, no que se refere aos aspectos relacionados à autonomia, criatividade, relacionamento interpessoal, organização e raciocínio lógico. This study presents a system that combines a conventional refrigerator, microcontrollers and a smart phone to create an inventory monitoring that can monitor the stocks inside the refrigerator wirelessly by accessing an Android application. The developed refrigerator uses a sensor network system that is installed in a respective compartment inside the refrigerator. Each sensor will transmit data to the microcontrollers, such as Arduino Yun and Arduino Uno, which are interconnected by the I2C communications. All data and images will be processed to provide the user an Internet of Things application through the cloud-based website Temboo. Temboo will have access to send data to the Dropbox. A smartphone is connected to the Dropbox where all the data and images are stored. The user can monitor the stocks or contents of the refrigerator wirelessly using an Android Application.

Coal mine is a hazardous place in which numerous lethal variables are risky for human life, particularly when impacts happen. Rescue team typically doesn't have a clue about the real circumstance of the mine passage. Accordingly, it might be exceptionally risky for rescuers to go into mine passages to inquiry survivors without distinguishing ecological data previously. To tackle this issue, robot is created for helping individuals to do the rescue work. The robot is used for detecting the explosion environment of coal mine. We developed a prototype of a fully autonomous robot which can be used to indicate presence of harmful gases inside a mine for mine rescue operations in case of emergencies caused by natural calamities such as explosion. Coal mine rescue robot is a sort of portable robot. It can go into blast environment and discover gas content.

The aim of this idea is to show an early stage draft for measuring the electrical resistance in a designed/elaborated textile printed sensor with a mobile Arduino microcontroller. The textile sensor was developed by the screen printing technique based on a water dispersion of carbon nanotubes printing composition. By stretching and squeezing the T-shirt during breathing, we change the electrical resistances of the printed sensor. The measured resistance corresponds to the number of breaths of a person wearing it. The microcontroller can calculate the number of breaths as a number of electrical resistance peaks which can lead to monitoring human live parameters.

In this paper, an overview of the potentiality of Arduino boards will be presented, together with the description of the Arduino interfacing with light multi-sensors. These sensors can be arranged in linear arrays or in a matrix configuration (CCD or CMOS type cameras), and are equipped with tens, hundreds or even thousands of elements whose size ranges from a few microns to tens of microns. The use of these sensors requires electronics that have high time accuracy, since they work due to regular pulses sent by an external source, and, furthermore, the ability to digitize and store voltage signals precisely and quickly. We will show that, with the appropriate settings, a simple Arduino board can handle both 1-D and 2-D optical sensors. Finally, we will describe a solar compass, capable to provide the North direction with a very high degree of accuracy, made with such a board coupled to one of the tested optical array sensors.

El prototipo autonomo para la practica experimental de laboratorios de fisica, parte de la realizacion de un montaje mecanico donde se acoplan ciertos dispositivos electronicos previamente seleccionados, entre estos elementos se encuentra un microcontrolador PIC18F452, display LCD, motor PAP unipolar, Teclado 4x3, sensores entre otros. Este documento describe el diseno y construccion de un prototipo didactico el cual se realizo con el fin de aportar al continuo desarrollo del grupo DICOPED en la busqueda del desarrollo de equipos autonomos, compactos, de bajo costo, y confiables para la demostracion experimental de las leyes fisicas en los laboratorios de fisica. Esta idea nace de la necesidad de mejorar el contexto en el que se desarrollan las practicas hoy en dia en la universidad y en muchas mas instituciones educativas de la region y del pais, donde se busca aprovechar el conocimiento y los recursos tecnologicos disponibles para realizar equipos de laboratorio.

Hyperbilirubinemia, an excessive amount of bilirubin in the blood, is a common condition in premature infants. The excess amount leads to a deadly disease called jaundice. Optical devices called bilibunometers are used to measure the concentration of bilirubin in a non-invasive way. These devices use a single wavelength light source in the range of bilirubin absorption spectrum. These leads to inaccurate results due to the presence of other substances in the blood like melanin and hemoglobin. Therefore, in this project, three light sources with the maximum absorption range of bilirubin, melanin, and hemoglobin is considered. Using Beer Lambert law the total absorbance, due to the three pigments, at red, green and blue wavelength is calculated and displayed on LCD. Then independent component analysis is performed to separate and minimize melanin and hemoglobin interference from the total absorbance of the three pigments. As a result, independent concentration of bilirubin, melanin and hemoglobin was found. Each concentration is displayed on MATLAB.

Neste artigo apresentamos resultados parciais de uma pesquisa que tem como questão central analisar o modo como alunos do Ensino Médio de uma escola pública desenvolvem pequenos projetos de Robótica. O objetivo é construir uma proposta metodológica a fim de inseri-la no contexto didático do Ensino Médio, norteado pelo construcionismo e preconizando Cenários Investigativos, visando o “aprender a aprender”, em um ambiente menos assimétrico e de parceria entre professor e alunos. A investigação, de cunho qualitativo, através da observação participante, apontou seu olhar para uma dupla de estudantes que, colaborativamente, optou pela construção de um detector de fumaça microcontrolado por uma placa programável Arduino. A system that outputs force and number of applied force cycles with respect to time was designed to make a fatigue analysis machine. The design of electric circuit and the microcontroller Arduino code was developed and tested. The two subsystems comprise of a load cell for force readings and an electric motor for outputting cyclical forces to a test coupon. The subsystems should minimize error and maximize experimental modulation to validate the output data. The testing data of the subsystems of the fatigue apparatus was presented and analyzed to verify the design.

El presente documento muestra el diseño de un controlador para una máquina de insolación usada en procesos de fotocurado. Para ello se inició el desarrollo realizando una revisión previa minuciosa a la máquina de insolación existente, y a los procedimientos que se deben llevar a cabo en el laboratorio de estampados, con el fin de comprender el proceso de fotocurado, evaluando las posibilidades de mejora de los equipos en uso. El diseño propuesto para el controlador es un PI, el cual se realizó con herramientas de simulación de Matlab, dando prioridad al tiempo de exposición en el proceso de fotocurado el cual debe ser el mismo para cualquier tipo de tela o malla del bastidor, lo cual permite que la máquina de insolación no requiera ser operada por personal altamente calificado o competente en este arte.

Di dunia yang serba otomatis dan semakin maju, banyak diciptakan alat untuk membantu dan memudahkan pekerjaan manusia. Kopi merupakan salah satu minuman yang sangat diminati oleh masyarakat. Salah satu permasalahan yang sering dihadapi oleh masyarakat adalah rasa hasil pembuatan kopi yang berbeda-beda pada setiap orang. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat alat penyeduh kopi otomatis yang memiliki 4 varian rasa yaitu cappucinno, torabika, coffeemix dan kopi hitam. Penelitian ini membuat alat yang mencakup hardware dan software. Hardware meliputi arduino mega 2560 sebagai pemoresesan kendali kontroller, sensor suhu DS18B20 sebagai mendeteksi suhu pada tabung air, motor servo sebagai membuka dan menutup tutup botol kopi, tombol push button sebagai tombol pembuat kopi, motor dc sebagai konveyor , LCD sebagai tampilan informasi jenis kopi dan nilai suhu pada tabung air dan software arduino IDE untuk pengodean sistem. This study presents a system that combines a conventional refrigerator, microcontrollers and a smart phone to create an inventory monitoring that can monitor the stocks inside the refrigerator wirelessly by accessing an Android application. The developed refrigerator uses a sensor network system that is installed in a respective compartment inside the refrigerator. Each sensor will transmit data to the microcontrollers, such as Arduino Yun and Arduino Uno, which are interconnected by the I2C communications. All data and images will be processed to provide the user an Internet of Things application through the cloud-based website Temboo. Temboo will have access to send data to the Dropbox. A smartphone is connected to the Dropbox where all the data and images are stored. The user can monitor the stocks or contents of the refrigerator wirelessly using an Android Application.
