This research examines a broad range of racial issues that have coloured literature in English from historical times to the present day. Views/quotes from famous personalities are sampled in order to give insights into the nature of racism in the literary arts and its impact on the psyches of individual artists. The said personalities include Toni Morrison, Amiri Baraka, Milan Kundera, Dr. John Henrk Clarke,  Elspesth Huxley, Zora Neale Hurston, Angela Davis, W.E.B DuBois, Alice Walker, James Baldwin, John H. Johnson, Gil Scott-Heron, Binyavanga Wainaina, Ntozake Shange, Tyler Perry and Dick Gregory. This paper shows that although there has been progress since the days of the 'Slave Narratives', the shadow of racism still hangs over the literary world, especially for Black writers.

Digital information practices such as unregulated meme and post creation, uncited quotations on various websites, and frequent reposting across social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram all enable the rising Internet phenomenon of sharing misremembered or inaccurate “quotes” by famous authors. Celebrated for his literary and social legacies, Charles Dickens is often misquoted or falsely identified as originator of a saying either deriving from film adaptations of his corpus or that typifies his known opinions. Since these quotations are not fact-checked and generally cannot be flagged or taken down by other users, these mistakes persist and proliferate online. By not verifying them before use, instructors and authors risk including false or inaccurate quotations in their presentations and publications. Searching for a dubious “quote” in Internet archives, databases, and online tools can combat such errors in the classroom and print by revealing whether it actually appears in published writing by Dickens or his biographers. Techniques are provided for navigating these digital searches successfully, which can be utilized for pedagogical or private benefit to guarantee that all quotes are authentic and cited.

This work deals, in two dimensions, with the collage processes and quotation within the musical composition. The first dimension is reflective, conceptual and philosophical. The second dimension is practical and related to writing and realization of music. At the beginning it will be presented a discussion of musical analysis in its various languages, almost all tributaries of the trio composed by the Kantian enlightenment, the organicism of Goethe and the phenomenology of Husserl. The analytical cutting machinery will be seen as a toolbox to make the extractions, segmentations and stratifications. The work deepens the discussion as the following concepts are treated: (1) Collage of Quotations as poetic sustained by author; (2) Analytical and Synthetic Cubism, brought the plastic arts, for the agency with the musical field; (3) Deterritorialization and Synchronicity and the understanding production in chaotic environments; (4) and still, Conversion, Subversion and Perversion, Musical Textuality, Geography of Musical Thinking and Phosphorescence Aesthetic – all having foundation on the ideas and texts by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. Beyond these philosophers, this text finds support in the notes of Friedrich Nietzsche, Georges Bataille, Walter Benjamin and Baruch Spinoza. The final part of the work presents compositions developed in the recent years, and how the reflective potency are presented in these compositions. The scores of the compositions are attached in the end of the work.

Esta tese tem por objetivo apresentar o conceito de aspas verbo-visuais e categorias de análise para o estudo do fenômeno abordado. A hipótese perseguida é: tomando o enunciado em sua dimensão verbo-visual, determinadas relações entre elementos verbais e visuais constitutivos dele podem se configurar como desdobramentos metaenunciativos opacificantes, em analogia à dinâmica da modalização autonímica que ocorre no plano verbal, e serem consideradas como aspas verbo-visuais. A hipótese sugere a possibilidade de ampliação do sentido de determinado elemento visual quando compreendida a dimensão verbo-visual constitutiva do enunciado, tal como ocorre quando as aspas são empregadas no plano estritamente verbal, ou seja, configurando-se como um tipo de presença/ausência a ser preenchida interpretativamente. As perguntas de pesquisa a serem respondidas são três: 1) como compreender o processo de metaenunciação, constitutiva da modalização autonímica, no plano verbo-visual?, 2) O que seriam e como se constroem os desdobramentos metaenunciativos opacificantes (modalização autonímica) entre elementos verbais e visuais a partir da dimensão verbo-visual dos enunciados pertencentes ao corpus desta pesquisa? e 3)  Quais as similaridades existentes entre as ocorrências das aspas verbo-visuais que possibilitam construir categorias de análise do fenômeno abordado? O corpus de análise é constituído por conjuntos noticiosos selecionados dos jornais impressos diários Folha de S.Paulo e O Estado de S.Paulo coletados entre os dias 23/09/2012 a 20/10/2012, assim como de quatro exemplares da revista semanal Veja coletados no mesmo período. Na construção das repostas às perguntas de pesquisa, orientadas pela hipótese postulada, esta tese articula as formulações de Authier-Revuz sobre modalização autonímica, as concepções de enunciado concreto e de signo ideológico advindas do Círculo de Bakhtin, os estudos sobre verbo-visualidade desenvolvidos por Brait e o conceito de instância de enunciação complexa formulado por Maingueneau. A pesquisa, para além de confirmar a hipótese por meio das análises realizadas, apresenta três categorias de aspas verbo-visuais, a saber: a de relação direta entre elementos verbais e visuais, a de opacificação de elementos verbais no plano visual e, por fim, a de alegoria verbo-visual opacificante. A contribuição pretendida, tanto para a Linguística Aplicada quanto para os Estudos da Linguagem em geral, é a de delimitar a compreensão do fenômeno enunciativo-discursivo produtor de sentidos na articulação entre o plano verbal e visual do enunciado, postulando o conceito de aspas verbo-visuais, e o de oferecer categorias de análises passíveis de serem partilhadas por pesquisas futuras que se debruçarem sobre os efeitos de sentidos produzidos na articulação entre imagens e textos verbais.

La prima parte di questo saggio analizza in parallelo il percorso bianciardiano di traduzione dei due Tropici e quello creativo, che porterà alla stesura della Vita agra. Nei paragrafi successivi vengono presentati numerosi passi ed episodi che Luciano Bianciardi ha ripreso dai romanzi
di Miller e viene proposta una valutazione complessiva del ruolo dello scrittore americano nella produzione bianciardiana a livello narrativo ed epistemologico.

Many times the names of Henry Miller and Luciano Bianciardi, his translator in italian, have been linked, but still critical essays about them lack of depth. The first part of this paper analyzes at the same time the translation of the two Tropics and the steps which led to the writing of La vita agra. In the following paragraphs it will be shown that La vita agra includes many episodes taken up from Miller’s works. In conclusion an overall and precise evaluation of Miller’s role in Bianciardi’s narrative and thought will be briefly presented.

De nombreuses fois, les noms de Henry Miller et de Luciano Bianciardi, son traducteur, ont été réunis par la critique qui a cependant souvent oublié d’effectuer une recherche approfondie pour élucider le rapport entre les deux auteurs. La première partie de cet essai analyse en parallèle le chemin bianciardien de traduction des deux Tropici et celui créatif, qui conduira à la rédaction de La vita agra. Dans les paragraphes suivants sont présentés de nombreux passages et épisodes que Luciano Bianciardi a repris des romans de Miller et est une proposée évaluation globale du rôle de l’écrivain américain dans la production de Bianciardi au niveau narratif et épistémologique.

Die Namen von Henry Miller und Luciano Bianciardi, seinem italienischen Übersetzer, wurden von Kritikern oftmals im gleichen Atemzug genannt, aber gerade dies hat eingehendere Untersuchungen zur Klärung des Verhältnisses zwischen den beiden Autoren oft behindert. Der erste Teildes Aufsatzes analysiert parallel den Verlauf von Bianciardis Übersetzungsarbeit an den beiden Tropici sowie den kreativen Prozess, der zum Werk Vita agra führen wird. In den folgenden Abschnitten werden zahlreiche Passagen und Episoden vorgestellt, die Luciano Bianciardi aus Millers Romanen übernommen hat, um darauf hin eine Gesamtbewertung der Rolle des amerikanischen Schriftstellers auf narrativer und epistemologischer Ebene in der schriftstellerischen Produktion Bianciardis vorzunehmen.

L'ITALIA IN BREVE, ovvero tutto il mondo è paese, (with English Quotes), è un libro di aforismi, citazioni, battute e riflessioni sull’Italia e gli Italiani curato da Carl William Brown. Lo scritto presenta una vasta panoramica a livello storico, letterario e sociologico della nostra piccola grande realtà e vuole inoltre essere una modesta metafora sul percorso dell’umanità, che da vari secoli caratterizza il nostro caro pianeta. Il testo dopo alcuni pensieri introduttivi e una prefazione che spiega la genesi, lo stile e gli intenti del libro, presenta un'introduzione che, con l’ausilio di vari dati statistici, illustra in breve l'attuale situazione sociale, politica, economica e culturale del nostro paese.
