The article deals with the extraordinary case of intercultural, interconfessional, and interlingual contacts between Orthodox East Slavs and Turkic-speaking Jews – most likely Karaites – in the second half of the 15th century in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, perhaps in Kiev. The Slavonic-Russian Pentateuch was edited according to the Turkic (Western Kipchak) Targum of the Torah which was preserved in the Karaim manuscripts known from the early 18th-century and later copies and the 19th-century printed editions. Now, the earliest copy of the Old Kipchak Targum from the 1470s–80s has been found. Furthermore, some textual readings of the Karaim Targum of the Pentateuch seem to have been influenced by the Russian-Slavonic Bible, although this issue is rather disputable.

In the Slovak military historiography focusing on the years from 1914 to 1918, we can only
find a few papers dealing with the specifically oriented research focusing on the participation
of men of the Austro-Hungarian Army from a particular municipality in the territory of
contemporary Slovakia and the military operations in the particular locality. On the example
of the municipality of Ruská Kajňa in the today’s district of Humenné, this study monitors the
participation of men from this municipality on the battlefields of the World War, analyses the
combat activity of the Austro-Hungarian and Russian Army at the turn of 1914 and 1915 and
also offers a brief view of the demographic development of the municipality until the end of
the World War, surely influencing the development of Ruská Kajňa in Czechoslovakia after
1918. In spite of the fact that Ruská Kajňa was not a significant economical, military, culturalsocial, political or religious centre of the river Oľka valley in the Zemplín County, it was in
this municipality’s surrounding where the strategic combat operations regarding an important
crossroad in the direction of Medzilaborce and Stropkov took place, with the local residents
having to suffer all the oppressions of the Austro-Hungarian and Russian Army in their homes
directly. After the frontline moved off back behind the Carpathian Passes, it was necessary to
reconstruct the damaged homes and farm buildings, which was very challenging since the men
from Ruská Kajňa were recruited to the Austro-Hungarian Army, fulfilling their military duty
on the Eastern and Italian front.

Student thesis focuses on issue of problems of Rusyn from Austro-Hungarian compromise of 1867 to the First World War with emphasis on memories of Jaroslav Kmicikievič. I tis divided into three parts. The first chapter contains a summary of the most serious problems of Rusyns during this period. The second chapter analyses the most famous trials with the Rusyns in Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The third chapter describes of memories of Jaroslav Kmicikievič, who was persecuted by regime of Austro-Hungary and it provides insight into his life before arrest and then life in the prison camp and subsequent desertion in Italy.

Cilj ovog rada je utvrđivanje karakteristika sećanja na Endija Vorhola (Andy Warhol, 1928–1987), koje je prezentovano kroz film Absolut Warhola poljskog autora Stanislava Muhe (Stanislaw Mucha) iz 2001. godine. Sećanje na Vorhola sagledano je kao određena kultura sećanja, i to s obzirom na varijantu prezentovanu preko filmski prikazane zajednice Rusina u Slovačkoj. Metod koji je korišćen je analiza filma u deskriptivnoj, interpretativnoj i evaluativnoj ravni. Deskriptivna analiza pokazala je da
se film sastoji od 160 kadrova i 3 dela. interpretacijom smo došli do spoznaje da razvoj filmske radnje predstavlja svojevrsno spuštanje iz sveta umetnosti u svet Mikove i Medzilaboraca, rusinskih sela istočne Slovačke. mikovčani endija Vorhola tu u potpunosti shvataju kao svojega, iako ga nikad nisu videli. Vrednost i stavove spram njega ipak određuju u odnosu na svoj sistem vrednosti, što potvrđuje tezu Emila Dirkema da svako društvo pokazuje i traži osećaj kontinuiteta sa prošlošću. film dopunjuje ovu tezu ukazujući na to da društvo ne samo da pokazuje i traži kontinuitet, već ga i gradi na osnovu svojeg ustaljenog društveno­kulturnog sistema. U tom smislu, ljudi u starom Vorholovom kraju kreiraju
svojeg sopstvenog Vorhola, istovremeno odbacujući Vorhola koji je poznat na svetskom nivou. Vorholov
umetnički izraz ostaje kod seljana prisutan kao stalna provokacija, odbijana i odbacivana. Na ovaj način
je stvoren fenomen pop-­palanke, kao još jedan ironični Vorholov umetnički izraz.

Ukrainianists and Belarusianists traditionally assumed that “Ukrainian” and “Belarusian” authors of the middle period of the East Slavic language history wrote essentially in their own respective mother tongues or even native dialects; linguistic features belonging to dialects of the other of the two modern nations were regarded as “foreign” influences due to the close political and cultural ties between “Ukrainians” and “Belarusians”. Nowadays more and more scholars come to acknowledge the existence at that time of a common Ruthenian literary standard. However, the relationship between this standard variety and the diversity of the Ruthenian dialects is still rather unclear. As the Ruthenian questione della lingua, i.e. the problem of choosing a dialect basis for the standard variety, was never discussed explicitly (mainly because of the overwhelming importance of Polish and Church Slavonic in the Ruthenian metalinguistic discourse), the role of intermediate dialects (e.g. Polissian), dialect mixing (e.g. Vilna and Galicia), the acceptability of individual dialect features, and linguistic conservatism (e.g. in orthography) for the standardization of Ruthenian remain to be thoroughly evaluated. This is what this paper tries to do.

The article critically assesses the theory of communicative networks and its applicability in the study of multilingualism as found in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL). The author analyzes foundations for postulating the existence of a speech community in the GDL and adduces counterarguments against viewing this community as a linguistic alliance of the Balkan type. The article offers new sociolinguistic and areal-typological methods of the study of language contacts. The author substantiates a systematic approach toward the problem of the ethnic attribution of Ruthenian; based on the literary, linguistic, and cultural parameters, the author offers to drop the use of the term Old (Middle) Belarusian or Old (Middle) Ukrainian in reference to this language

Osnovno obeležje radijske emisije “Kulturna panorama” na rusinskom jeziku je njen panoramski karakter. Uređivačka politika je postavljena tako da beleži dešavanja na rusinskoj kulturnoj sceni, što ovoj emisiji daje jedan hroničarski pečat. Novinarsko autorstvo se ogleda u pripremi materijala kojim se kroz kontekstualizaciju daju jasniji obrisi kulturnih pojava i događanja, što proširuje informativnu i edukativnu dimenziju emisije.

This analysis of the national idea will be limited to two territories which were compromised of Ruthenian peoples, Galicia and Transcarpathia. This will allow for a comparative study between the two as they are radically different in regards to when there was consensus among the national idea and when it was able to flourish. It will be particularly interesting to examine why the national idea did not spread equally among Ruthenians living under the same empire. The importance is then to understand the role that the state and other external factors can play in determining the speed and direction of national ideas among a common people. At this point it will be possible to notice that regardless of the national idea, the attitude of the state towards nationalism can help or hinder any progression that leads to a national awakening. This, combined with the Ruthenian question of which national idea was to shape the identity of its people, complicated the uniform growth of Ruthenian nationalism and ultimately led to the stagnation of Ukrainian ideas in Transcarpathia. What specific events resulted in this stagnation as well as how the competition of diverging national ideologies affected the growth of the idea in Transcarpathia and Galicia from 1848 to 1914 is the purpose of this analysis. Providing a background of the specific situation that Ruthenians found themselves in living under Austro-Hungarian rule and stating the differences of the three national ideas will be a precursor that will set the context for the remainder of the paper. Galicia will be the first to be examined, specifically its major historical events from 1848 to 1914, the role of its intelligentsia, the role of the Austrian State in Ruthenian nationalism, and the politicization of the Ruthenian National Movement. Following this, Transcarpathia will be examined from 1848 to 1914 in the context of major historical events. This will then allow for a comparison of the similarities and differences between Galicia and Transcarpathia and will ultimately allow for the examination of why the Ukrainophile idea was a success among Ruthenians in Galicia but was not the same success for the Ruthenians of Transcarpathia.

This article gathers all the data on the medieval East Slavonic canonical texts – written between the 13th and 16th centuries – which evidence direct linguistic and literary contact between East Slavs and Jews. Several linguistic indicators of immediate contact have been extracted from these texts: the transferring of the Hebrew phonemes /š/, /ə/, /h/, /ḥ/, /g/, /b/, and /c/ via corresponding Slavic letters, using a specific grapheme for the Hebrew letter ‘Aleph,’ assimilations by voice, and transferring Hebrew -yy- via ž or dž (which is explained by a Turkic mediation in these contexts).

The article deals with the problem of transformation of animacy and personhood in the situation of Interslavic language contact. The aim of the present paper is to identify what kind of changes category of animacy (personhood) have undergone in several island dialects. This problem is considered on the material of Polish and Czech (primarily immigrant) dialects and Ruthenian idioms that are also in the situation of language island. The data of immigrant dialects were consistently compared with the dialects in the original territory. The data of each idiom were considered against the background of West and East Slavic language landscape. The main trend in the development of the grammar of the island dialect in the surrounding of the closely related language is to level the asymmetry between grammar system of this dialect and the system of dominant language. The ACC.PL=GEN.PL syncretism, that is the main marker of animacy (or of personhood), has a different coverage of vocabulary in Slavic languages. In the island dialects the syncretism tends to spread to those groups of lexemes, for which it is characteristic in the surrounding language. In some idioms the spread of the ACC.PL=GEN.PL syncretism occurs without foreign influence.

U ovom radu se posmatra zastupljenost žena političarki u centralnim informativnim emisijama Javnog servisa Vojvodine i nedeljniku “Руске слово” tokom predizborne kampanje pred republičke, pokrajinske i lokalne izbore 2008. godine. Autor utvrđuje osnovne podatke o rusinskoj nacionalnoj zajednici i ženama rusinske nacionalnosti u Vojvodini na osnovu popisnih podataka. Zatim nas upoznaje sa istraživanim uzorkom i karakteristikama medijskih priloga koji su monitorovani. Analizu empirijskog materijala sprovodi kvantitativno-kvalitativnom analizom podataka o korpusu i na osnovu njih izvodi zaključak i preporuke za dobru praksu.

[EN] This work is a collection of poetry in Ruthenian language. Its author is Adam Berdo, this is a pseudonym. The collection is divided into two thematic parts - socio-philosophical and humorous-folk. The presented verses reflect the realities of life in Transcarpathia, its light and dark sides.
[RUE] Йся робота є зборником русинської поезії. Автором є Адам Бердо, но вто псевдонім. Зборник розбитый на дві тематичні часті - cоціально-філософську і фіґлярно-народну. Представлені вірші удражавуть реалії живота у Закарпатьови(Пудкарпатьови) із його світлыми и темными сторонами.

Статья отвечает на два вопроса: 1) в какие типы рукописей попадали переведенные на руську мову/церковнославянский язык тексты из книги житий Петра Скарги, 2) в каких рукописях концентрация переводов выше? Особенности внутренней структуры и содержания рукописного материала позволили выделить шесть типологических групп, а именно: сборники житий из Żywotów Świętych, сборники смешанного состава, житийные сборники минейного типа, минейные торжественники, учительные евангелия и прологи. Кроме сборников житий из Żywotów Świętych, наибольшую концентрацию переводных текстов содержат сборники минейного типа, структурно максимально приближающиеся к своему печатному польскому источнику.

Narodową, językową i religijną mozaikę dwumilionowej Wojwodiny, okręgu autonomicznego Serbii leżącego na Nizinie Panońskiej i granicy Bałkanów i Europy Środkowej, tworzy, obok serbskiej większości, co najmniej 28 narodowości (trzecia część mieszkańców prowincji) i co najmniej tyle samo języków.
Obok Serbów, Węgrów, Słowaków, Rumunów, Chorwatów i innych narodów, region zamieszkuje kilkunastotysięczna społeczność Rusinów, którym udało się zachować swoją tożsamość narodową, swój język i kulturę.

"Between Ruthenia, Ukraine and Slovakia – contemporary dilemmas about national identity of Ruthenians in Vojvodina"

A small community of Ruthenians in Vojvodina is extremely interesting, and its culture is still vital. More than 260-year history of their stay in Vojvodina is a story about the struggle to preserve their traditions, culture, faith and language. The community itself has evolved as national consciousness – from religious-based Ruthenian faith to the modern national-cultural. The article deals with issues of national self-identification of Ruthenians in Vojvodina, among whom, as is the case among Ruthenians in other countries, are supporters of options autonomous – (carpatho)Ruthenian and Ukrainian. More recently, mainly in journalism, there are also individual voices of closer cultural (and perhaps identification) of the Eastern Slovaks and so vichodňarski movement.
