SRI

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of sixteen rice varieties coded from V1 to V16 under SRI. All parameters showed significant variation among rice varieties and all varieties showed early maturity under SRI. V1 had maximum 23 days followed by V2 (20 days) early maturity while V12 and V13 (3.0 days) showed minimum early maturity under SRI than standard management practice. Maximum yielded variety V11 had 4.0 days earlier under SRI than the standard management practice. V11 (5.7 t/ha) showed the maximum grain yield followed by V16 (5.6 t/ha) while minimum grain yield was found from V4 (4.4 t/ha) but maximum biological yield was found from V12 (13.2 t/ha). V1 and V2 can be cultivated for early harvesting while V11 and V12 for more grain yield under SRI practice.

În lumina ultimelor evenimente ce au determinat modificarea, de către Parlament, a modalității de numire a directorului Direcţiei Generale de Protecţie Internă (DGPI) a Ministerului Afacerilor Interne, considerăm oportun a evidenția evoluția, în timp, a acestei structuri de informații, precum și noutățile generate de reforma făcută în anul 2016. De asemenea, articolul de față își propune să evidențieze importanța exercitării controlului parlamentar permanent și specific asupra acestei noi structuri de informații cu atribuții în domeniul securității naționale.

Strategia Națională de Apărare a Țării pentru perioada 2015-2019  (SNAp) și Hotărârea CSAT nr. 128 din 10 decembrie 2015 privind adoptarea Ghidului Strategiei Naționale de Apărare a Țării pentru perioada 1015-2019 (Ghidul) au prevăzut corupția atât ca risc, cât și ca vulnerabilitate, incluzând-o în conceptul de securitate extinsă și proiectând direcții de acțiune (DA) în sarcina autorităților publice responsabile (APR), în ciuda rezervelor și opozițiilor din spațiul public. Ceea ce s-a dorit a fi România și ceea ce a ajuns, ca urmare a securitizării corupției, vom încerca să explicăm în prezenta lucrare.

A field experiment was carried out at Agronomy field, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from December 2005 to May 2006 to study the influence of cultivation methods on inbred and hybrid rice in Boro season. The experiment consisted of two levels of treatment viz. variety and cultivation method and was laid out in a split-plot design with four replications. Experimental results showed that variety had significant effect on the studied parameters except panicle length, spikelets panicle-1 and straw yield. The hybrid variety Sonarbangla-1 produced the highest grain yield (8.26 t ha-1) and lowest straw yield (7.25 t ha-1), however, the inbred variety BRRI dhan29 gave the lowest grain yield (7.53 t ha-1) and highest straw yield (9.58 t ha-1). Cultivation method also significantly influenced the studied parameters except panicle length, 1000-grains weight and straw yield. Nursery seedlings produced the highest grain yield (8.73 t ha-1) and straw yield (9.21 t ha-1) and SRI (System of Rice Intensification) gave the lowest grain yield (7.23 t ha-1) and straw yield (7.19 t ha-1). Maximum harvest index was calculated in SRI (52.47%) and minimum harvest index was found in sprouted seeds broadcast (46.22%). Interaction of variety and cultivation method revealed that, nursery seedlings of the inbred variety resulted the highest grain yield (8.88 t ha-1) and sprouted seeds broadcast of the inbred variety gave the lowest grain yield (6.35 t ha-1).

În lucrarea de față voi prezenta și analiza cum s-a transpus  modelul demilitarizării în propunerea legislativă privind statutul profesional și de carieră al ofițerilor de informații. De asemenea, voi arăta contradicțiile conceptuale dintre scopul propunerii legislative și raporturile ierarhice de tip militar care se păstrează în textul legii. Totodată voi prezenta punctele tari și punctele slabe alte inițiativei legislative, încercând a afla dacă există o perspectivă de a fi reintrodusă, poate cu modificări, în procesul legislativ. Nu voi uita nici partea amenințărilor și oportunităților care apar în raport cu  riscurile pe care le poate aduce un eventual eșec al procesului de modificare a arhitecturii statutului ofițerilor de informații.

A survey of the system of rice intensification (SRI)-related literature indicates that different authors have drawn conflicting inferences about rice yield performances under the SRI, chiefly because the SRI methodology has been variously advocated, interpreted and implemented in the field using different rice varieties, seedling ages at transplantation, cultivation seasons and nutrient management regimes. In particular, the SRI method of single-seedling transplantation (SST) has potential economic advantage due to reduced seed costs, but it is not clear whether SST is an effective management strategy across a range of seedling ages, and whether there is any specific seedling age that is optimal for yield improvement of a given rice variety. This is an important consideration in rain-fed ecosystems where variable rainfall patterns and lack of controlled irrigation make it difficult to reliably transplant at a specific seedling age as recommended for the SRI. We conducted a five year-long experiment on a rain-fed organic farm using a short-duration upland and a medium-duration lowland landrace, following the SRI methodology. Rice seedlings of different ages (6, 10, 14, 18 and 28 days after establishment) were transplanted at 25 cm × 25 cm spacing in three replicated plots. The performance for each landrace was examined with respect to productive tillers, panicle density, total grain counts per hill and grain yield per unit area. Performances of seedlings of different ages were compared with that of control plots that employed all SRI practices with the exception that 28-day-old seedlings were transplanted with three seedlings per hill. The results indicate that (1) the SRI can improve mean panicle density if seedling age ≤ 18 days, but that responses differ between varieties; (2) the number of productive tillers per hill is significantly less in SST than that of multiple seedling transplants (MST) of 28-day-old seedlings of both upland and lowland varieties; (3) the total grain numbers per hill of the lowland variety is significantly greater for 14-day-old SST than 28-day-old MST; (4) the grain yield per unit area from young SRI transplants is significantly greater than that from 28-day-old MST for the lowland variety, although the magnitude of the improvement was small; (5) for the upland variety, grain yields declined with the oldest seedlings, but planting multiple seedlings per hill made the yield of the oldest transplants on par with that of younger seedlings planted singly. Our findings suggest that transplanting younger seedlings under the SRI management may not necessarily enhance grain yields.(Accepted January 19 2012)(Online publication February 27 2012)

An experiment was conducted at Agronomy farm, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh from December 2011 to May 2012 to study the growth and yield of Boro rice (BRRI Dhan 50) as affected by seedling age under System of Rice Intensification (SRI). Experiment comprised four different aged seedling viz. A 1 : 12 days old seedling, A 2 : 14 days old seedling, A 3 : 16 days old seedling and A 4 : 30 days old seedling following Randomized Completely Block Design with three replications. Maximum number of filled grain (101.0/panicle), 1000-grain weight (19.9 g), grain yield (5.1 tha-1), straw yield (5.1 tha-1), biological yield (10.2 tha-1) were found from A 2 and minimum weed population (43.7/m 2 at 30 DAT and 63.1/m 2 at 60 DAT) was also found from A 2. 14 days old seedling was found as best for yield of BRRI Dhan 50 under System of Rice Intensification.

This article advances the idea that shareholders who seek to influence corporate behaviour can be understood analytically as norm entrepreneurs. These are actors who seek to persuade others to adopt a new standard of appropriateness. The article thus goes beyond studies which focus on the influence of shareholder activism on single instances of corporate conduct, as it recognises shareholders’ potential as change agents for more widely shared norms about corporate responsibilities. The article includes the empirical example of US internet technology companies who, in their Chinese operations, face conflicts of norm systems in regard to freedom of expression on the internet. Shareholders have been active in seeking to persuade these companies to adopt a norm of adhering to global standards for human rights over restrictions implied by authoritarian regimes to which they deliver services.
