This article explores the changing infrastructural architecture of global finance through the lens of Global Production Networks (GPNs). Financial markets infrastructure (FMI) for international payments and securities trading form the backbone of global finance. However, this FMI is typically hidden from observation, debate, and analysis, partly because international payments have functioned in broadly the same way for almost 50 years, governed by large global banks and the co-operative Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT). A global monopoly sensitive to geopolitical upheavals, SWIFT is increasingly influential in acting to the benefit of the world’s most powerful financial and political players. Thus, more than a mere passive facilitator of global economic activity, we argue in this paper that FMI forms a carefully crafted socio-economic system of geo-political relevance, whose core components ‘power’ and ‘embeddedness’ we seek to comprehend with the GPN framework. We introduce SWIFT as a key player in global FMI and establish a conceptual dialogue between the recently introduced notion of the GPNs of finance and the newly developed idea of the GPNs of financial infrastructure. Incorporating Allen’s (1997) power dimensions, we demonstrate their coexistence and complementarity in their carefully orchestrated, tightly intertwined global organizational arrangements. We show that SWIFT’s proneness to technological and organizational change threatens to reconfigure long-established actors, processes and relationships in and beyond finance, and argue that this makes an in-depth understanding of FMI vital.

Disconnecting Russia from SWIFT is one of the most widely discussed potential sanctions in the econtext of the Ukraine crisis. Many contributions to the debate are not sufficiently familiar with the functions of SWIFT. In order to put the discussion on a more firm ground, I'm making this chapter already available although it will only be published much later. The chapter puts SWIFT into the context of discussions about financialization and state capitalism, clarifies the role of SWIFT in the global payment infrastructure, takes stock of the various political affairs about SWIFT and discusses Chinese and Russian alternatives to SWIFT as well as to the existing cross-border payments infrastructure more generally.

This Continuous Assessment (CA) is part of module Global Transaction, Banking and Payment Systems (Duane, 2015). The topic chosen for this CA is ‘Ripple protocol’ and its role in developing a banking payment system in regards to other acknowledged systems out there.  First there is a literature overview of future of financial systems lead by new guidelines and legislations, as a result of last crisis, environment concern and information communication technology (ICT) influence on finance-banking sector.  With explanation of virtual currencies and their terms for better understanding of the Ripple protocol and how it works and who is it made for to use.  Second there is discussion on different most used systems (SWIFT, Bitcoin, and Ripple). And third is made a conclusion of the role of Ripple and the systems discussed and overview of literature on financial systems.

In this paper we describe the method, assess the evidence related to its use in healthcare using a systematic literature review, and suggest ways in which it could be better adapted for use in the healthcare industry. Based on the limited
evidence available, it appears that healthcare workers find it easy to learn, easy to use, and credible. Especially when used as part of a staged approach, SWIFT appears capable of playing a useful role as component of the PHA
armamentarium.

Declarative programming can be described as a paradigm, a style of building the structure and elements of computer programs, that expresses the logic of a computation
without describing its control flow. Many languages applying this style attempt to minimize or eliminate side effects by describing what the program should accomplish in
terms of the problem domain, rather than describing how to go about accomplishing it as a sequence of the programming language primitives.

Government officials and stakeholders in the financial industry trying to counter transnational terrorist financing face a wicked problem.  This problem is ill-defined, with multiple causes and uncertainty on whether the solutions implemented to combat this threat are effective.  It is a problem further complicated by the convergence of globalization, digitalization and introduction of disruptive financial technologies, which further enables distributed terrorist financing.

Government and financial industry stakeholders should accept transnational terrorist financing as a wicked problem, as this can help foster development of a strategic mindset focused on more effective CTF resolutions.  This will require a continuous effort on the part of all stakeholders, with hard, but necessary, choices around risk tolerance and the restoration of trust and confidence.

In this chapter, the SWIFT, which is the financial communication system used by all financial institutions , will be explained. Today, most of the countries and financial institutions take precautions to avoid money-laundering and financial crimes. The SWIFT system will be examined in relation with financial communication, compliance, money laundering, know your customer, and sanctions. Public became aware of the sanctions when HSBC has agreed to pay $1.92 billion dollars to state authorities in 2012 for transfering dollars illegally into US. Banks apply "Know Your Customer" procedures to avoid such risks. In relation with sanctions, precautions of SWIFT system will be defined. SWIFT has started a new application namely KYC Registry which enables to have necessary information about the customers in international trade, through cross borders. The reasons why this applicatiıon must be used, how risk will be mitigated, by sharing information with maximum transparency and SWIFT's new KYC application will be defined.

The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications, called SWIFT, is considered a cornerstone of global transactions. At its founding, SWIFT membership amounted to 239 banks from fifteen Western countries. Past examples show that SWIFT can also be used as a weapon, even though it is nominally independent. Recent statements indicate that the US and the EU are seriously considering removing Russia from the SWIFT system in case of tension. In fact, back in 2014 after Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimea Peninsula, there were calls to cut Russia off from SWIFT. In response, Russia developed a its domestic financial-communications platform. It should be taken into account that in case certain Russian banks are disconnected from SWIFT, these Russian banks and multinationals looking for ways to move money may find a warm welcome in the growing Chinese Cross-border Interbank Payment System (CIPS). In recent years, there has been a significant increase in both the EU and the US use of economic sanctions to force other countries they consider as adversaries "in line" with Western interests. Being in the same alliance no longer suffices in guaranteeing exclusion from such economic sanctions. On the contrary, such sanctions have been turned into a teaching lesson even to allies, and it is undeniable that this behavior has reached a level that will shake even the strongest alliances. It should also be kept in mind that this contemptuous approach erodes the patience of the public opinions of the countries that are not included in the Western World or constantly excluded despite being in that group. It is unlikely that the results of employing sanctions, which has become a habit for the US and the EU, to the most significant countries of the world, such as Russia and China, in terms of their military power as well as their economies, will lead to beneficial results. The developments in the coming period may serve as a reminder that the Western world must act with common sense to avoid sowing divisions in the world trade system.

The present research aims to analyze how the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) of the People's Republic of China relates to the projection of power of the Chinese State into the international environment. To this end, this study draws on the contributions of cardinal and monetary theories, in order to relate the State to the creation of currency and the institution of money, understanding the latter as intrinsically related to state power. Thus, by focusing on Georg Knapp's research and, bringing the debate closer to current reality, Benjamin Cohen's monetary theory, we study how the State projects its power through the internationalization of currency. It is studied how the International Monetary System is organized, in order to understand it as competitive and hierarchical, in order to outline how China positions itself in relation to the hegemonic dollar. Therefore, the theoretical study is applied to the specific case under analysis, in order to outline what Central Bank Digital Currencies are, their history, their fundamental assumptions and, specifically, the E-RMB – Chinese CBDC on the rise. In this way, it is seen that the E-RMB gives China the ability to deepen the already consolidated efforts of the Beijing power to internationalize its currency. Therefore, the characteristic of the Chinese CBDC is identified as offering a path to achieving power through autonomy (COHEN, 2018), in order to have an alternative to the current hegemony of the dollar and the global payments system, the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT).

When Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan meets with President Donald Trump on May 16 in Washington, two controversial leaders meet at decisive points in their administrations. Both appear to be coming off political victories, in Trump’s case, his achievements during his first 100 days and in Erdogan’s case, his controversial winning of a national referendum in April that granted him expanded authority. But that would obscure the fact that Erdogan is needy, and President Trump is not. Erdogan desperately needs international recognition after a recent slim controversial win in the referendum. Although Erdogan feels strong with the new powers, he faces a raft of complications abroad, including providing weapons and logistical support to jihadi terrorist groups, his family’s ties with the illicit ISIS oil trade and his direct involvement with violating U.S. sanctions against Iran, money laundering and financing the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. At this time though, Erdogan’s main concern is cutting a deal with Trump on the case of a Turkish-Iranian dual citizen who handled the illegal trade with Iran and to kill the case against him in a New York court.

ABSTRACT We have extracted the MACHO blue and red light-curves of the proposed counterpart of this new LMC X-ray transient, Swift J053041.9-665426. These cover the interval MJD49000-51600. The star is highly variable (by up to 0.3 mag) in both bands, and exhibits a ~415d candidate quasi-periodic modulation in the blue (although there are only approximately 4 cycles in the light-curve). Towards the end of the MACHO coverage (~MJD51400) the star has a large (~0.3mag) outburst that lasts ~200d.

Alla som gjort en internationell betalning har stött på SWIFT. Det är genom SWIFT som bankerna gör internationella transaktioner med varandra. Systemet upprätthålls av tio centralbanker, men kontrollen av penningströmmarna sker på basen av nationell lagstiftning. USA har använt denna möjlighet för att stoppa transaktioner med banker, företag och personer i länder vars regimer man ogillar. Eftersom banker och företag utanför USA är beroende av möjligheten att handla med dollar, och kan ställas till svars för sina göranden inför domstol i USA, kan också de tvingas tillämpa sanktioner som USA beslutat om. Om något bör inkluderas i begreppet "hybridkrigföring" så är det USA:s användning av SWIFT-systemet för att komma åt stater, företag och personer som man utsett till skurkar eller terrorister. Då Förenta staterna återinförde strängast möjliga sanktioner mot Iran, tvangs också bankerna i Europa att följa efter. I bland annat Tyskland opponerade man sig och började till och med undersöka möjligheten att införa ett parallellt betalningssystem. Ryssland och Kina gör vad de kan för att inte bli påtvingade USA:s regelsystem för vem man får handla med. Det kan vara en orsak till att kryptovalutor tidvis har blivit förvånansvärt populära. Det mest aktuella exemplet på SWIFT-imperialismen är Venezuela. Det kan visa sig vara ett eldprov för hela systemet. Första gången jag fäste mig vid Venezuela var för över tjugo år sedan, då jag studerade lite lyckostatistik. Man mäter ju inte bara medeltalet för livstillfredsställelsen i olika länder, utan också spridningen inom länderna. Venezuela hade då den största spridningen i världen. Det fanns en hel del uppenbart lyckliga, men också många som uppgav sig vara olyckliga. Inkomstfördelningen var ytterst skev. Landets inkomster kom nästan helt från oljeexporten. Det USA-styrda bolaget, PdSVA, delade med sig av oljeintäkterna endast till sina venezualanska kompanjoner. Det beräknades att Venezuela satt på världens största oljetillgångar, så det var viktigt att ha kontrollen även över framtida utvinningar. USA såg till att Venezuela inte kunde uppföra egna oljeraffinaderier, och därmed förbli beroende av de USA-kontrollerade raffinaderierna på Trinidad och USA:s golfkust. Dessutom sattes oljeresurserna och annan statsegendom i pant för lån som amerikanska banker beviljade. Inga oljepengar skulle användas för de fattiga. Enligt Michael Hudson var det "oligarkins arroganta vägran att dela med sig av förmögenheten, eller rentav att göra Venezuela mer självförsörjande i fråga om livsförnödenheter, som gjorde att valet av Chavez blev det naturliga utfallet." Hugo Chavez, ledare för det nationalistiska partiet "Femte republikanska rörelsen", valdes till president med stor majoritet 1998. Han omvaldes och drev igenom en ny konstitution år 2000. Chavez försökte bygga ut landets infrastruktur, satsa på skolor, hälsovård och sysselsättning. Han försökte överta kontrollen av oljebolaget, men lyckades bara delvis. Han misslyckades också med att stoppa kapitalflykten som de rika givetvis satte igång. Från första början utsattes regimen för "smutsiga tricks" från USA:s sida. I april 2002 störtades Chavez tillfälligt i en CIA-stödd statskupp. Efter massdemonstrationer lyckades han återfå makten. Aktiekurserna som hade rusat i höjden efter kuppen sjönk som en sten.
