Real-time surface rendering of large-scale molecular models such as a colon bacillus requires a great number of polygons to be displayed on a display device. Since a long latency of display and manipulation is fatal in maintaining presence in a virtual environment, high performance computing power and high quality graphical components are required to exercise real-time rendering of such a

For a gantry crane system, this paper presents a comparison between four control algorithms. These algo-rithms are being compared on simplicity, stability and robustness. Goal for the controller is to move the load on a gantry crane to a new position with minimal overshoot of the load and maximal speed of the load. An-other goal is to provide an insight in the behaviour of the possible controllers. In this article a parallel P-controller, cascade P-controller, fuzzy controller and an internal model controller are used. To be able to validate and design the controllers a model is derived from the gantry crane. The controllers and the model are being implemented in Matlab Simulink. Finally the controllers are validated and tuned in Labview on a laboratory gantry scrane scale model. Main conclusion is that all presented controllers can be used as a con-troller for the gantry crane system but the fuzzy controller is showing the best performance.

Abstract: The complexity of a room model affects to the computational resources required to model its acoustics by means of geometrical acoustics modeling methods. Thus, a method for reducing the geometry of the room models is presented for static room geometries. The topology of the model is simplified in a process where the model is first decomposed into a volumetric structure. The surface is reconstructed by utilizing this structure, and subsequently simplified by merging coplanar regions. The results of the method are ...

ABSTRACT In this paper, a methodology to approximate a class of in3nite dimensional models by a bond graph model is investigated. This procedure is designed to preserve the passivity of the initial model. Through interconnections of passive elementary blocks (passivity is stable under interconnections), a 3nite dimensional passive approximate model is constructed. This 3nite dimensional model, if need be, is reduced thanks to a Krylov-Lanczos process. Finally, a bondgraph realization of this reduced-order model is given. An example (a fractional power pole model) and an application (the CRONE suspension) demonstrate the usefulness of the whole approximation procedure. The paper ends with the discussion of the reduced-order model initial conditions determination problem in the non-integer order case. ? 2003 Publishedby Elsevier B.V.

When comparing ditital simulations with experimental field measurements, we often find references associated with a large margin of uncertainty. In other words, to what degree do the results come close to the real situations studied? Indeed, a number of research studies attest to the significant difference between the two simulated and real situations. This work consists of two comparative experiments: i) Comparison between the results of the digital simulation of the levels of illuminance on a work plan carried out by the two software Radiance 2 BETA and Ecotect5.5., As well as ii) Comparison of the results obtained by a digital simulation of the levels of illuminance on a work plan carried out by means of two software programs, namely Radiance 2 BETA and Ecotect 5.5. A simulation by models (models) under a clear sunny sky. The results obtained prove differencees in the comparison. The most important ones are presented by the discrepancies between the data measureed and simulated b...

This paper describes experimental studies on the seismic behavior and design of precast concrete buildings. A half-scale two-story precast concrete building incorporating a dual system and representing a parking structure in Mexico City was investigated. The structure was tested up to failure in a laboratory under simulated seismic loading. In some of the beam-to-column joints, the bottom longitudinal bars of the beam were purposely undeveloped due to dimensional constraints. Emphasis is given in the study on the evaluation of the observed global behavior of the test structure. This behavior showed that the walls of the test structure controlled the force path mechanism and significantly reduced the lateral deformation demands in the precast frames. Seismic design criteria and code implications for precast concrete structures resulting from this research are discussed. The end result of this research is that a better understanding of the structural behavior of this type of building has been gained.

An effective practical technique for model-order reduction of large-scale linear time-invariant problems in microwave applications is presented. The reduction is performed as the Galerkin projection onto a subspace of frequency response coherent structures that contain the spectrum of the system multiinput impulse response. The subspace basis is created by the proper orthogonal decomposition of the system transfer characteristics sampled at
