Wind energy potential

The main source of the World is the sun. The continuous energy flow in the natural process keeps our world alive and existence. The solar rays formed as a result of nuclear reactions in the sun interact with our world and are stored and transformed into different energy sources. Among thies energy resources, Renewable energy sources can be defined as being able to renew itself faster than depletion rate. These renewable sources are; solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, hydraulic energy and so on.

The more strategically diversified the energy resources and the more they are supported by renewable energies, the more humanity will guarantee future prosperty. regarding the sector growth and invstments in the last 10 years, Wind Energy gains a special importance among renewable energy resources.

The aim of this study; to analyse potential of wind energy by considering agricultural use in the Southeast Anatolia and to take a step to reduce the lack of information available in the scientific sources about the Southeastern Anatolia Region Wind Energy Potential.

On this study; the data of 24 meteorological stations in 9 cities in Southeast Anatolia, Wind Energy Potential Atlas of General Directorate of Renewable Energy and satellite imagery were analyzed simultaneously and  various information about the region was obtained. In this study, considering the wind characteristics in the region, possible performances of the horizontal and vertical axis wind turbines are examined and the power and energy values to be obtained are presented.

A B S T R A C T In this paper, the potential of solar and wind energy-based distributed generation (DG) in Saudi Arabia is simultaneously analyzed with the aim of maximizing the utilization of available resources. It begins with an analysis of DG application potential for wind and solar energy resources in various regions of Saudi Arabia. The progress of DG applications in terms of research, planning, and exploitation of wind and solar energy resources is then presented. An assessment of the DG contribution to the energy sector of Saudi Arabia has been conducted and the barriers and challenges for the implementation of DG systems in the country are discussed with suggested measures to overcome the challenges. The main findings are that with the huge potential of wind and solar resources for DG applications the country has targeted 50 GW of wind and solar capacity by the year 2040. The Saudi government is expected to provide full support in the form of financial incentives for solar and wind energy projects in order to boost renewable energy development.

Energy is the most essential element of socioeconomic development and nation's economic growth. Renewable energy sources can play an immense role to full fill this need of energy. We see the tremendously energy gap increases, for the mitigation of this energy gap we need to some other energy sources like as renewable energy or wind energy. This paper present a states wise wind energy potential, energy scenario, installed capacities, different policy, are discussed in detail.

Recent years have witnessed an increasing global concern over energy sustainability and
security, triggered by a number of issues, such as (though not limited to): fossil fuel depletion, energy
resource geopolitics, economic efficiency versus population growth debate, environmental concerns and
climate change. Wind energy is a renewable and sustainable form of energy in which wind turbines convert
the kinetic energy of wind into electrical energy. Global warming and differential surface heating may
significantly impact the wind velocity and hence the wind energy potential. Sustainable design of wind mills
requires understanding the impacts of climate change on wind energy potential, which we evaluate here with
multiple General Circulation Models (GCMs).
GCMs simulate the climate variables globally considering the greenhouse emission scenarios provided as
Representation Concentration path ways (RCPs). Here we use new generation climate model outputs
obtained from Coupled model Intercomparison Project 5(CMIP5). We first compute the wind energy potential
with reanalysis data (NCEP/ NCAR), at a spatial resolution of 2.50, where the gridded data is fitted to Weibull
distribution and with the Weibull parameters, the wind energy densities are computed at different grids. The
same methodology is then used, to CMIP5 outputs (resultant of U-wind and V-wind) of MRI, CMCC, BCC,
CanESM, and INMCM4 for historical runs. This is performed separately for four seasons globally, MAM, JJA,
SON and DJF. We observe the muti-model average of wind energy density for historic period has significant
bias with respect to that of reanalysis product.
Here we develop a quantile based superensemble approach where GCM quantiles corresponding to selected
CDF values are regressed to reanalysis data. It is observed that this regression approach takes care of both,
bias in GCMs and combination of GCMs. With superensemble, we observe that the historical wind energy
density resembles quite well with reanalysis/ observed output. We apply the same for future under RCP
scenarios. We observe spatially and temporally varying global change of wind energy density. The underlying
assumption is that the regression relationship will also hold good for future. The results highlight the needs to
change the design standards of wind mills at different locations, considering climate change and at the same
time the requirement of height modifications for existing mills to produce same energy in future.

Renewable energy is one of the essential elements of the social and economic development in any civilized country. The use of fossil fuels and the non-renewable form of energy has many adverse effects on the most of ecosystems. Given the high potential of renewable energy sources in Yemen and the absence of similar studies in the region, this study aimed to examine the wind energy potential of Hodeidah-Yemen Republic by analyzing wind characteristics and assessment, determining the available power density, and calculate the wind energy extracted at different heights. The average wind speed of Hodeidah was obtained only for the data currently available for the five years 2005-2009 (due to the current economic and the political situation in Yemen). The results show that the average wind speed in the five years is (25.2 W/m2 at 10 m, 93.9 W/m2 at 30 m, and 173.5 W/m2 at 50 m). The average yearly wind power density (25.2 W/m2 at 10 m, 93.9 W/m2 at 30 m and 173.5 W/m2 at 50m), and the average yearly energy density (220.8 KWh/m2/year at 10 m, 822.6 KWh/m2/year at 30 m and 1519.9 KWh/m2/year at 50 m). This research is a preliminary assessment of the potential of wind energy in Hodeidah, which provides useful information for developing wind energy and an efficient wind approach. According to the International Wind Energy Rating criteria, the region of Hodeidah falls under 'Class 2' and is classified as 'Marginal' for most of the year.

In places where the implementation of electric grids is inaccessible or economically not feasible, the installation of wind micro-turbines and photovoltaic systems for electricity generation and water pumping systems has been implemented; however, renewable energies have not yet been used in some rural areas due to the lack of studies and initiatives of their own. In the present study, in situ measurements have been used to evaluate the wind potential in rural town and the application for micro-turbine. Through the Weibull Distribution, an analysis of the wind energy potential available in the area has been carried out incorporating commercial wind micro-turbines and energy cost analysis. The favorable wind levels and the nominal speed values of commercial turbines have allowed obtaining the capacity factor values and energy costs, which allowed determining the feasibility of the installation of wind micro-turbines to provide electric energy to the habitants of this town.
