About this ebook
An active participant in the civil rights movement, her poems primarily reflect the injustices that plague African Americans and her desire to promote awareness. Her strong beliefs in family and God are well represented as well as her creative expression. Readers will find her language to be strong but sincere, meditative but uplifting, and angry but passionate as she presents her observations on life.

Dedications
I dedicate this book of poetry to the following people:
Felix James, my brother, who has always believed my words should be published and shared with the world;
William Leggett who gave me lots of compliments and encouragement;
The Black youths whose lives gave me reasons to speak out.
Preface
Growing up on a southern black college campus and walking among learned, well spoken professors engaging in casual conversations, my own father being one, always caused me to slow my gait. Their words fascinated me and gave me a joy for words, which inspired my need to put my own thoughts on paper.
I write on multiple topics for multiple reasons, thus the various sections of this book. However, having grown up in segregation and participated in the civil rights movement of the sixties, my strongest feelings, and the issues for which I am most outspoken, are those regarding racism and injustice. For these words I offer no apology.
Day Dreaming
I Saw a Poem Today
I saw a poem today,
coming down through the hills.
White lamb's wool floated
over the city,
brilliantly lit by the
morning sunshine.
And, as the cars sped by,
no one noticing,
I stopped in mid air.
I could not let this
beauty pass me by.
Poetry
Poetry is sissy stuff,
All those fancy words:
People think you're dipping snuff
When you write and talk like nerds.
But then I met Ms. Angelou
Ms. Walker and Ms. Brooks;
And after delving into their words,
I took a second look.
I heard them speak of Bean Eaters
,
And tell me
