About this ebook
Inspired by the Old English Rune Poem, Northumbrian Rune Poems centres its focus on the Early Medieval English Futhorc runerows with additional attention paid to the four runes that were in use in Northumrbia. Mixing free verse poetry with kennings found within Old Norse and Old English poetry, Northumbrian Rune Poems is a magical read that breathes new life into an otherwise neglected runerow. Alongside each poem is an Old English adaptation written in a Northumbrian dialect using Old English alliterative style to capture the spirit of the poems in a new light.
Old English translations were done by C. Ryan Moniz. You can check out more of his work here:

PRAISE FOR NORTHUMBRIAN RUNE POEMS!
Nico takes relatively short poems and fills them with metaphor and images the original writers would have been very comfortable with. Kennings also abound within this text, adding depth and character to each poem. All in all, this is a beautifully written poetry book I highly recommend checking out.

We don’t have much material for trying to adopt an Old(ish) English based heathenry, and Solheim-Davidson’s track record of scholarship and knowledge of folklore shines through in this work and gives us clues along the way as we attempt to get to know the values, cultural flavor, and beliefs about deities and spirits that may make it up. I particularly love that the unique Northumbrian runes are included, as another facet of localising belief and experiencing the many different lenses we can bring to religious life, as well as preserving and applying folklore!
