Riverside police charged a 43-year-old Chicago man with felony aggravated fleeing and alluding police after he fled from an officer attempting to stop his speeding vehicle. The officer spotted the vehicle, which was wanted for a retail theft in North Riverside, speeding in Riverside. The man fled through multiple suburbs before abandoning the vehicle, where both he and a female passenger were apprehended with help from Berwyn police. The man was also charged with nine traffic offenses relating to his failure to yield to the police vehicle during the pursuit. He admitted that he and the woman had been on a retail theft spree, stealing alcohol from stores in western suburbs.

Riverside Police Charge Chicago Man with Felony Aggravated Fleeing and Alluding Police Riverside officer spots car wanted for retail theft out of North Riverside
On Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 1:41 p.m., a Riverside police officer working regular patrol spotted a vehicle traveling southbound on Harlem and was speeding. The vehicle was traveling 52 in a 35-mile-an- hour zone. As the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle accelerated and turned eastbound on 30th Street from Harlem. The car then fled from police and during the brief pursuit it was learned that this vehicle was wanted for a retail theft that had just occurred at Tonys Finer Foods in North Riverside. The vehicle continued to travel eastbound and traveled through many suburban streets in Berwyn including Wisconsin, Wenonah, Home, Clinton, and Grove and finally abandoning the vehicle at 32nd and Oak Park. At that time, a foot pursuit ensued in which one male and one female fled. With the assistance of the Berwyn Police Department, both the driver and passenger were taken into custody. The female retail theft offender was turned over to the North Riverside Police Department at the scene. Riverside Police took the driver into custody for several traffic-related issues. Riverside Police charged Duval Williams, 43 of the 6700 Block of South Wolcott Avenue in Chicago with felony aggravated fleeing and alluding police. Additionally, Mr. Williams was charged with nine traffic offenses including speeding, disobeying several stop signs, and other traffic offenses related to the failure to yield to a police vehicle. The driver arrested by Riverside, Mr. Williams, stated that they were on a retail theft spree and were going to different locations throughout the western suburbs stealing alcohol from different retail establishments.
