Riverside Police arrested 19-year-old Miztli Reyes for residential burglary after witnesses observed him walking out of a basement door carrying a backpack full of stolen property from their home. Riverside Police Arrest Burglary Suspect As He Tries to Flee Home Riverside Police arrest man who was out on bond for an earlier arrest in Riverside last month. On Sunday, August 17, 2014 at 3:26 a.m., the Riverside Police Department received a call of a burglary in progress in the 100 block of Groveland. When officers arrived, they were directed to the backyard where two subjects were attempting to hold a suspect until police arrived. The officers immediately took the suspect into custody with the assistance of the two residents. Police officers continued to search the home which was burglarized for additional suspects. No other suspects were found. During the investigation, it was learned that the witnesses observed an individual walking in their rear yard at 3:20 a.m. They saw him walking out of a basement door carrying a backpack. The witnesses knew the suspect from prior contacts and yelled at him to stay in the area as they were calling the police. They then were able to keep the suspect in their rear yard until first officers arrived. In the suspect's possession was a backpack that was full of stolen property from the residence. The victims in this case all identified their property at the police station during subsequent interviews and evidence processing. Taken from the home during the burglary were alcohol, pocket knives, a portable safe, Xbox games, power tools and other miscellaneous items that could be sold quickly. The suspect gave Riverside Police investigators a full written statement admitting to burglarizing the home. Cook County State's Attorney Felony Review Unit was contacted and approved felony charges. Arrested for felony residential burglary was Miztli Reyes, 19 of the 9100 block of Fairview in Brookfield. Mr. Reyes is currently on bond for a Riverside arrest that took place in front of the Riverside Brookfield High School in July 2014. In that case, he stole a student's bicycle and fled to his home in Brookfield where he was arrested by Riverside Police. Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel stated, It is extremely unusual for Riverside to experience a residential burglary at 3:20 in the morning. The homeowner, his son and friends played a crucial role in EWS RELEASE RIVERSIDE POLICE DEPARTMENT 31 Riverside Road, Riverside, IL 60546 assisting police in apprehending the suspect. When first officers arrived, they had the suspect corralled in the rear yard so that police could take him into custody. I am extremely thankful that the homeowner called 911 immediately and police officers were on the scene within 1 minute and 30 seconds of the 911 call. Additionally, all the stolen property was recovered.
