The key takeaways are that the document discusses the parts and operation of a three phase induction motor, different connection types (delta and star), troubleshooting, and maintenance.

The main parts of a three phase induction motor are the stator, rotor, terminals and their functions are to generate a rotating magnetic field to turn the rotor using electromagnetic induction.

The difference between delta and star connections is that the delta connection has the three phases connected in a triangular configuration while the star connection has the three phases connected to a common point. This affects the voltage and current characteristics.

Lesson Plan

I. General Information:o

Topic: three phase motor (operation, maintenance, troubleshooting)

Name and Student Number: Muaz Waleed Hasan

Course Name and Code: Three phase induction motor rewinding and maintenance ELT 285

Date and Time: Sunday 1\march\2015 ( 50 min )

II. Pre-reflection:Curriculum Analysis:

This is the curriculum analysis of TTC fourth trimester course (ELT 285) .The course's name is three phase
induction motor rewinding and maintenance. This course refers to electrical technology department. In addition,
this course describes to main topics which are DC and AC motors. This course will be taken in electrical
machines and it has three credit hours of GPA. Also contact hours are six practical hours a week. The total hours
for whole trimester are( 48 )hours .
1.1 Course description:
This course presents the study of the parts of three phase induction motor and rewinding and
maintenance . It also presents the use of these elements in different circuits as a means of converting the power
from AC to DC. The course also shows how to control the voltage and frequency of the source.
Content Analysis:
In this topic I will explain the meaning of induction, definition of motor, symbol of three phase motor, what are
the parts of motor and what is the function of, and where is it used. After that, I will describe the delta and star
operation and how can we connect them using the magnetic switch (contactor). Then I will make experiment and
show the students how we check the motor windings.
The students need to learn (three phase motor) and the maintenance because we use it in real life. For example:
the big pumps and starting motor for a big generator.
The students should have some knowledge before they study this subject such as:
1) The magnetic field.
2) Single phase motor.
3) AC machines
This lesson linked with the (AC machine) because the three phase motor and the single phase motor both are
AC machines. The function, advantages, operating, maintenance of the three phase motor that exactly what I will
explain in this lesson with more details. Also, this lesson linked with the course comes after (control of motors).

I will use Inductive Approach:

For make motivation between the trainees who will first answer the question (what is the function and the
advantages of the three phase motor).

Didactic principals :

1. Principle of motivation:
By show the component and in real life example.
2.

Principle of methodological changes:

The trainer uses different method (Questions and answers- Lecture - Discovery) and
(Group Work) & (Individual Work) because not all trainees understand the lesson when the trainer
uses one method.

3. Principle of practical relevance:

The trainer does the experiment for the trainees understand how the motor works in practical not just
in theoretical.
4. Principle of vividness:
By draw the circuit with students, and change the methodological. And use different colors.

I will use different method, for example:

1- Action Form:

a- Questions and answers to motivate the students and turn in their minds.
b- Lecture, for explain some things the trainees don't understand.
c- Discovery, for the trainees to discover the problems and fined a solution

2- Social Form:

a- Group Work, for everyone help each other and exchange ideas.
b- Individual Work, for make sure every trainee understand the lesson.

I will use different media and material, for example:

1- Whiteboard, for draw the circuit (phase delta and star connections).
2- Power point slides.
3- Three phase motor to show the terminals of the three windings
4- Worksheet, to help the trainees to understand the lesson.
