Minutes from the open meeting of Digbeth Residents Association (DRA) and Neighbourhood Watch on Monday 10th June

2013 at 6pm in the Old Crown restaurant. 1. Roll Call and Apologies Present: John Gordon, Lisa Zdravkovic, Pamela Pinski, Tracey Pickering, Phil Bates, Pete Snape, Gerry Corry, Kate Gordon, Rosie Pocklington, Jonathan Lord, Jo Smith, Alex Buckenham, Richard Trengrouse, Gabi Butler, Joe Holyoak. Apologies: Adam Robins. 2. Matters arising a. Action Plan for 2013 We propose an action plan that focuses on a cleaner, safer and friendlier Digbeth: The cleaner strand will be addressed with some DRA-organised litter picks. The safer strand will continue to be addressed by DRA working closely with the Police in its role as a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. Informal drop-ins for residents have been piloted on Tuesday evenings in the Spotted Dog which forms part of the friendlier strand. b. Suggestions for constructive spending of DRA funds DRA is investigating the possibility of reinstating the Welcome to Digbeth Bab mural on Rea Street, putting together a map of local and nationally important pubs, as well as possibly running regular tours of our area focussing on architecture, history and heritage. 3. Update on HS2 from Jonathan Lord, Community Liaison & Stakeholder Advisor, HS2 Jonathan presented information held in the Draft Environmental Statement, which is the key document for HS2. A public consultation event will be held on Wednesday 12th June from 12:00-20:00 at Millennium Point; DRA encourages all our members and supporters to respond to the consultation before 11th July 2013. The plans as they currently stand mean that Digbeth would be a key construction area for up to seven years, with the permanent loss of the Fox and Grapes pub and parts of Bordesley and Fazeley Streets, along with the temporary closure of parts of Eastside City Park and the Woodman pub. Jonathan is happy to provide DRA with an update later in the year. 4. Police Report and Neighbourhood Watch News Recent restructuring in the force has increased the number of officers in the Digbeth neighbourhood policing team, which is great news. To help prevent and reduce vehicle crime, the force is currently looking at implementing bays and possible charges for parking in Digbeth. DRA has a presence at the monthly policing tasking group meetings; if there are any policing priorities residents would like to be addresses at these meetings, please email your concerns to contact@mydigbeth.co.uk and these will be raised. Weekly crime figures continue to be reported on the DRA website on a Friday afternoon. 5. Any Other Business a. The minutes from the May 2013 meeting of DRA were approved. b. Any feedback or suggestions for our website can be emailed to contact@mydigbeth.co.uk 6. Date and Time of Next Meetings The next committee meeting will be held on Monday 8th July 2013 at 6pm in the Old Crown restaurant, High Street Digbeth. The next open meeting will be held on Monday 12th August 2013 at 6pm in the Old Crown restaurant, High Street Digbeth.
