Punching shear resistance


Punching shear resistance at column face
Checks that the design punching shear stress at the column face does not exceed the design maximum punching shear resistance.

Punching shear resistance of slabs with no shear reinforcement


Determines if the applied punching shear force to the slab can be resisted by the slab longitudinal tension reinforcement alone. The
calculation for the punching shear resistance at the column face must be performed prior to this calculation being undertaken.

Punching shear resistance with reinforcement


Calculates the minimum area of shear reinforcement required if the slab requires it. The calculations for the punching shear resistance
at the column face and for the slab with no shear reinforcement must be performed prior to this calculation being undertaken.

General
It is assumed that the user has analysed the member and has determined the member design forces.
The eccentricity calculation is to be undertaken prior to using this calculation.
The value for VRd,max for use in a country can be found in its National Annex. Recommended values have been used in this calculation.

Example calculation Punching shear resistance at column face

Example calculation Punching shear resistance without shear reinforcement


Run item Punching shear resistance without shear reinforcement. This calculation determines if the design punching shear
resistance of the slab without shear reinforcement exceeds the design punching shear force. Note that item Punching
shear resistance at column face must be run before running this item.
Punching shear resistance without shear reinforcement (Clause 6.4.4)
Area of tension steel in y direction Asly = 300 mm2/m
Area of tension steel in z direction Aslz = 300 mm2/m
Basic control perimeter at 2d from the loaded area u1 = 2913 mm
Design punching shear stress (exp.6.38) vEd = VEd / (u1 d) = 0.021 N/mm2
Reinforcement ratio in y direction ly = Asly / d = 0.001
Reinforcement ratio in z direction lz = Aslz / d = 0.001
Reinforcement ratio l = min ([ly lz], 0.02) = 0.001
Concrete stress CRd,c = 0.18 N/mm2 / c = 0.120 N/mm2
