C.C Drain Design

This document summarizes the design of a 600mm drain in Durgapuram. It includes calculations of the catchment area (5.69 hectares), storm water runoff (257.14 liters/second), and sullage discharge (7.12 liters/second) for a total flow of 264.25 liters/second. It then calculates that a proposed trapezoidal drain section with a width of 0.6m+0.75m and depth of 0.9m would safely accommodate the total expected flow of 644.88 liters/second. Similarly, calculations show the existing drain with dimensions of 0.6m width and 0.9m depth could also safely pass the

DESIGN OF C.

C DRAIN
DURGAPURAM 600MM DRAIN
Catchment area:
From B.V Raju Municipal School to 1 X 345 X 165 56925 Sqm
UT
length = 345 Mts
56925 / 4000 14.23 Acres
14.23 / 2.5 5.69 Hectares

Length of Drain = 345 mts

Catchment area CA = 5.69 Hectares
Intensity of Rain fall = 25 mm
Storm water run off = Q = 2.78 CIA
Whare:
Q = Runoff in Lit/Sec
C = Impervious Factor 65%
I = Intensity of Rain fall in mm/hr
A = Catchment area in Hectares

Storm water run off = Q = 2.78 x 65/100 x 25 x 5.69 257.14 Lit/Sec

Sullage Discharge:
Sullage calculated on the basis of 400 Nos per Hectare as average density of Population
and 80% of the Water supply of 135 lit/per capita/day may be expected to reach the drain
5.69 X 400 X 135 X 0.8 X 2.5
Sullage = 24 X 60 X 60
= 7.12 LPS
Total Storm water = 257.14 + 7.12 = 264.25 Lps
Assume Free Board = 0.10 m
Assume Slope = S = 1 in 1000
Proposed Size of Drain 0.6 1
depth of drain 0.9 [ Trapizoidial Section]
0.6 + 1 0.90 = 0.72
A = Area of the Vent =
2
P = Wetted perimeter = 0.6 + 1 X 2 = 2.6
3.32
0.72
Hydraulic Mean Depth = R = A/P = = 0.277
2.6
Velocity of Flow = V = 1/n R2/3 S1/2
1
V= X [ 0.277 ]2/3 X [1/1000]1/2
0.015
V = 66.67 X 0.425 X 0.03162
V= 0.90 m/sec
Discharge = Q = A X V X 1000 LPS
= 0.72 X 0.90 X 1000 = 644.88 Lps
> 264.25 Lps
Hence proposed (0.45+0.75)/2 Trapizoidal Drain Section is safe
Existing Drain
Drian section 0.6 0.9
depth of drain 0.9
[ 0.60 + 0.90 ]/2
0.60 + 0.90
Area of Vent = X 0.90 = 0.68
2
Wetted perimeter = 0.6 + 0.9 x 2 = 2.40
0.68
Hydraulic Meen depth = R = A/P = = 0.281
2.40
Velocity of Flow = V = 1/n R2/3 S1/2
1
V= X [ 0.281 ]2/3 X [1/1000]1/2
0.015
V= 66.67 X 0.429 X 0.03162
V= 0.90 m/sec
Discharge = Q = A X V X 1000 LPS
= 0.68 X 0.90 X 1000 = 610.86 Lps
> 644.88 Lps
Hence proposed (0.45+0.75)/2 Trapizoidal Drain Section is safe
Hence O.K
