INTRODUCTION

Teacher’s Activity Student’ activity

Greetings!
Good morning Class! Good Morning Sir!

Class, please arrange your chairs and check Yes, sir.

your classroom if there are any hazards or
not comfortable.

Please sit down. Thank you sir!

Quote for the day:

“I am not afraid of any army of lions led by
a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led
by a lion- Alexander the Great”
What do you think is the meaning of this
quotation?

Who is Alexander the Great? Sir, Alexander the Great was the leader
Anyone? of Macedonian Army that conquered
almost half of Asia and Europe.

Very Good Class!

Motivation:
The teacher will recall the previous lesson
about Welding accessories and Cables

Presentation/Discussion:

Okay class, let’s start our discussion.

Class, do you have knowledge about

welding positioner, jigs or fixture?

Anyone?

Ok, First, let’s talk about welding

positioner.

Welding positioner is a Mechanical device

which is used to hold the Job and move
them according to their required position to
weld and do other operations. A fixture can
be mounted on the positioner in order to
hold and move the Job in an effective
manner to obtain advantageous quality
welds. The job can be repositioned
according to the requirement of the
process to be done on it. Rotation about an
axis is possible using turn table, turning
rolls, head stock and tail stock
arrangements, tilting is possible with the
positioner having a tilting table and the
vertical movement is possible by using an
elevating device which can move the
component accordingly. The movement
and the positioning of the job can be
classified into four different types with
different variants under each type.

1.Rotation about one axis

Turning roll positioners
Headstock & Tailstock positioners
Turntable positioners
2.Tilting & rotating
Tilting rotating positioners
Drop center tilting positioner
3.Vertical movement
Powered elevation positioner
4.Special Positioner
Skyhook Positioner

What is welding Jigs?

 Jig is a tool that guides the cutting
or machining tool.
 The most common type of jig is the
drill jig and boring jigs
 Jigs are lighter in construction
Types of Jigs
 Template jig

 Plate type jig

 Open type jig

 Channel jig

 Leaf Jig
 Box type jig

What is fixture?
 Fixture [tool] is a work holding
device.
 A fixture only holds and positions
the work.
 Fixture is bolted or clamped to the
machines table & is usually heavy in
construction.
Types of Fixture

1. Adjustable fixture

2. Grinding fixtures

3. Welding fixture

4. Assembly fixture
5. Inspection fixtures

6. Milling fixtures

7. Reciprocating fixture

What do you think are the difference of

Jigs and fixtures?
Here are the following are the uses of
Jigs and Fixtures:

 Jigs and fixtures are used to reduce

the cost.
 To increase the production.
 To assure the high accuracy.
 To provide for interchangeability.
 To control quality control expenses.
 Less skilled labor.
 Improve the safety at work, thereby
lowering the rate of accidents

Class, What do you think are the

applications of jigs and fixtures?

External Machining Applications

1.Milling fixtures
2.Surface grinding fixtures
3.Planing fixtures
4.Shaping fixtures We, no idea sir.
5.Lathe fixtures
Non Machining Applications
1. Welding fixtures
2. Soldering fixtures
3. Painting fixtures
4. Plating fixtures
5. Lapping fixtures
6. Polishing fixtures
Internal Machining Applications
1. Drill jigs
2. Boring jigs
3. Electrical discharge machining
fixtures
4. Punching fixtures
5. Internal broaching fixtures

Class, Welding jigs are specialized devices

which enable the components to be easily
and rapidly setup and held.

Jig can be defined as a work piece holding

and locating device that positions and
guides or controls the cutting tool.

Do you understand class?

Any questions?
Ok, Very Good Class!
Let’s clap our hands!
Activity:

The students will work identify whether it

jigs, welding fixture and welding positioner.
1.

2.

3.

ABSTRACTION

Okay do you have any question regarding

our discussion?

Are you sure?

Okay it seems you all really understand, so

to sum it up can you give me the difference
between welding jigs, fixtures or
positioners?

APPLICATION
The students will observe the video about
welding jigs, welding fixtures and
positioners.
